Kicked from groups for explaining tanking mechanics

Sometimes it is not what you say, but HOW you say it?

From my experience there are a TON of new players out there with little Vanilla experience - which is not unexpected. Just chill out. if I mark skull and 2 of the 3 dps are focusing, then Iā€™m ok with the one dude that has 0 clue. Itā€™s usually good enough.

Dungeons arenā€™t hard to tank. Itā€™s fine line between being too careful and being too crazy. Itā€™s mostly about rage management. If you have rage, dps can go nuts and itā€™s no big deal.

Youā€™re probably being overbearing/not adapting to the situation.

Been tanking in arms with little to no issues. Yeah, sureā€¦ Some people have a bad habit of wanting to dps the mob youā€™re not sundering/is marked for priority. Some people are just 3-4 levels higher than you and your only option is to taunt/sunder to reset threat levels.

Iā€™ve just dealt with it. Prot warriors are a better at generating/keeping aggro and thatā€™s probably the performance people expect. If they want to continuing pulling mobs off of you, let them. If they want to gripe about it, let. Just clear the instance and move on. It isnā€™t until groups start wiping/dps dies in a few hits that you should start chiming in with your macro. Micromanaging people for the sake of it is something you definitely donā€™t wanna do. Itā€™s not fun for anyone.

Iā€™ve only wiped on Cookie in deadmines out of the 50+ classic dungeons Iā€™ve cleared on this toon. People have stolen aggro plenty from me as an arms tank. So what?

Also, screw that guild. There are tons to join!

Tanking is horribly setup in the gameā€¦ I played a tank in eq2 and I thought it was way easier than the tank system in classic.
They could fix it by giving the tank full rage and a couple of aoe threat/dps attacks, that would solve the issue easilyā€¦ But then you run into people who seem to think its fine as is, but none of them play a tank lolā€¦ Its always some dps class flapping their lips about how its fine and how they do it fine on their tankā€¦
My response is always the same, ā€œthen why is there barely anyone tanking in this gameā€"? ā€¦ Because its annoyingā€¦

yeah, everyone thinks that you can zerg. the funny thing is that not only are the players who donā€™t know how to focus the tankā€™s marks baddies, they are going to be very unhappy when they get to SM. And if they donā€™t have 5 seconds to mark a group, will they ever have time for DM full clear? yet at the same time, chat is full of ā€œlf tankā€.

Ive been tanking most of the time since I made this char. A lot of times i feel like a pianist going crazy on my keys trying to keep aggro on everything. I pull the shaman earthshocks a mob, the rogue is attacking completly differant mob and the warlock starts aoeing everything. With all that going on i miss my 1st 2 attacks and my taunt is resisted. I really just try to hold aggro on as much as i can. If people die I really dont care at this point. It will get expensive for them and the further they go the more groups wil relaize they are idiots and they wont find groups. Good luck man.

Iā€™ve received hostility at 60 for it already. Like priests mind lasting before I even touch a target, or just ignoring kill order. Easy things to avoid doing. And then they screamā€™bad tankā€™ like, how hard is it to understand, the more Iā€™m fighting to get that back from the first Target the harder it is to get the started on other targets.

I feel you on that, what iā€™ve been doing is just marking kill target charging in, thunderclap, switch to defensive, and trying to sunder the non marked target, while taunting the marked. If they pull off aggro (unless its healer) I just let them tank it. Pooling rage and chain pulling is a must (although mana users complain). Itā€™s a delicate balance which absolutely sucks, half the time theyā€™re pulling for you the other half the mana users are oom. Either way youā€™ll get blamed, but theyā€™ll learn once they cant find any tanks.

Its funny you think you use it for threatā€¦lol. Or damage for that matter.

I suggest that you start your own groups. As a tank you literally have all of the power. You are the role that is sought after, not dps. If after laying the ground rules of the run people start doing their own thing just finish that pack, tell them why they are being removed and tell anyone else in the group they are welcome to join them back in LFG if they have problems with it. Be ready for that person to run into mobs and try to kill the group so back up a bit until they are ported out. You are in this game to have fun, if people are making your job way harder than donā€™t play with them. I had two dps last night linking to guides on wowhead because the tank wasnā€™t holding aggro on 10 non elite mobs in Mara when they are instantly AOEing. They were idiots but we got through the dungeon and they are now on a list of people I wonā€™t group with.

Thisā€¦ So much of this

If everyone around you is the problemā€¦maybe itā€™s you that is the problem.

Iā€™ve been running dungeons with a known competent tank. We clear SM Cathedral in 6 pulls. I pull a bunch of mobs, he pulls a few. We meet in the middle and AOE them down. He spams demo shout and an occasional taunt.

We like to play fast and get it done. As such when we PUG a couple of DPS we specifically say weā€™re doing speed AOE runs. I have also seen people specifically advertising for chill runs.

Maybe try looking for casual fun runs and stop thinking youā€™re the best tank and everyone else is just stupid.

Iā€™m not that surprised, there are some pretty thick players that never have played the Classic WoW. Even 15 years ago there where some thick people who just couldnā€™t listen to instruction. Consider the term ā€œhuntardā€. Blizzardā€™s solution was to hand hold and nerf so dungeons became a speed course.

the first boss i ever encountered whos mechanics cause any problems was the final boss in gnomer. my threat kept getting wiped when id get launched.

beyond that, even the mages could tank the adds during trash.

Agreed, now find other like minded guild and players to party up with.

Iā€™ve tanked and dpsā€™d more than a few times on this Warrior so far, not one time was anybody in any group even a little bit rude.

When I tanked I mark with skull, people usually follow suit, sometimes someone doesnā€™t and I have to improvise, like all tanks do.

When I pull aggro spamming Cleave as DPS, tank doesnā€™t ridicule me for not attacking his target only, I just face tank the mob a bit, bring it to him so he can build aggro off it.

Youā€™re making it sound like everyone is against you and you only get impatient monkeys in your group and just bully you the whole time, and you are totally innocent. I find it hard to believe.

Yes there is the occasional d-bag, yes it can happen back to back, but I feel like thatā€™s not the case for you.

Itā€™s all about presentation. You probably just sound like a condescending a55hat

Make your own groups. I have to keep explaining to DPS to focus fire, and also to attack from behind.

I ****ing die inside at how many people just attack from the front, especially all of these retarded dagger rogues.

Things have changed pretty drastically since original WoW, if you want early groups that will pull properly youā€™re going to have to make friends that donā€™t mind. All of my tanking XP coupled with my groups Healing and DPS XP means most of my runs are speed runs. You can pop a skull on stuff but people donā€™t want to wait, and alot of them are good enough to do so.

Hell, man, Iā€™ve had healers tell me to pull like a mean it because I only chained pull like 6. I donā€™t know if wow toned it way down to keep it alive, but just start hitting stuff with sunders and weave taunt into your rotation.

I tanked all of WC at 17 only because of taunt weaving and the rest of the group. Worry about form when lack of form starts getting ppl killed, right now, focus on optimizing yourself for speed runs.

nah i had few last night
i get why you would roll that name, he was beast., his stance dancing and that hamstring to cannabalize was something he liked to do.
shame he never came back but in that country you have to inlist in the military.
anyway i took it the wrong way, a tribute toon is a nice gesture., guess i feel the legends are offlimits in my mind
but have fun its just a game
