Kicked from groups for explaining tanking mechanics

ss or it didn’t happen

Sounds like you have no idea a warrior tank needs 2-3 sunders per mobs to hold agro or any amount of AoE or damage will pull agro. He was right to mark the mobs. That way he could put 3-5 sunders on the first mob and then start tab sunder the other mobs while the first was focus target killed. Slow is how it must be done before epic gear has been had.

I chose option 2: let everyone pull and heal them. No one died because healing in classic is ridiculously easy (Flash Heal). Dungeon was finished successfully.

First off no one said what level was being talked about. 2nd if a group focus targets a mob yes there is not much reason to have to wait beyond 3 seconds, and lastly it depends on the dungeon. It depends on the level difference average between the dungeon your doing and the group. In the RC I was talking about everyone was lvl 13 and lower, the grp damage is not high enough to handle 3 lvl 15’s before 2 people die. Not to mention how hard it is to keep tanks alive 3 mobs 2-3 levels higher than him beating on him at once.

I don’t have flash heal yet… First rank is at level 20.

Everyone is really bad at Classic even with 15 years of experiences.
Why?
They think every pulls need to be AOE dps even though warriors have zero AOE threat skill nor do they even have rage after charge+SB+Revenge+BS+Sunder to even attempt to tab-sunder anything.

If I hear someone says “USE THUNDERCLAP FOR THREAT!,” I will just leave the group.
I can get into another BRD run within minutes.

In one of the gnomer groups I mentioned earlier we wiped 3 times on the last group before the final boss. The one with all the dark iron dwarfs. After three wipes I suggested we sheep two since there were two mages and single target dps. Even after we tried it we wiped because the other mage never resheeped his target. One pull from the final boss and the group disbanded.

telling other people how to play this game is just asking for people to hate you. especially when tanks are all arms, healers are all shadow and ret, and dps are trying to get done as fast as possible.

My 2c: I haven’t played this content since it was originally released. At the time I was playing a druid tank and it was kinda taboo to do that. The guild I was in followed that philosophy of single target cc everyone let threat build etc. It was very thought out.

Flash forward to classic: I’m doing early dungeons pugging with rando’s. Everyone is on a different target. I have no rage, and basically can only taunt on cooldown. BUT No one’s dying and we’re clearing stuff fine (which is not how I remember my vanilla experience).

I’m now starting to do some cleave groups in SM. In my experience there’s zero chance I’m holding aggro on anything in a cleave group. If it’s a spellcleave group, I’m basically collecting mobs for the pull, and dragging mobs back into blizzard and away from the mages so they don’t die. If I’m in a melee cleave group, I’m basically thunderclapping, demo-shouting and taunting mobs off anyone in danger of dying. Maybe I’m just doing it wrong but I think thats the new meta for this level range because it’s been pretty successful minus one issue in armory last night where one of the higher level / well geared warriors decided I wasn’t pulling enough and wiped us by deciding incorrectly what we could handle. Those kinds of people are the one’s you’ll likely want to avoid.

Maybe this holds for later dungeons too? I really don’t know. I’m hoping the higher level dungeons need to follow the pattern I remember, but maybe look at this as an opportunity to explore new ways to play the game.

Maybe it is not what you are doing, but how you are doing it? Try to explain with love and care and at s point in time when people will be inclined to listen

Dungeons were nerfed in how they handle things, so it’s not as like have to sunder or every one dies now. Overpulling will still kill you, but these dungeons are no where near as punishing as they were during vanilla.

Ask for lead or someone to mark kill target.

Tank that one and spam demo shout.

If someone pulls aggro on anything else, thats their issue. - Demo shout is enough threat to out aggro your healer.

If dps cant follow a simple kill order - thats their issue, not yours.

Try telling us the whole story, which likely involved a lot of swearing and talking down to people if I were to make a guess.

Havnt done a dungeon yet, so to hold agro best would be to go defensive stance, and chain proc demo + battle? And if on boss throw in occasional sunder/taunt?

Sounds like you’re overthinking things, OP. Classic WoW tanking is easy. LoS pulls were like “Big Brain” stuff back in the day. Most people just 2h tanked everything up to level 50 and went about their business.

For clarification. The first time I remember dungeons being “really hard” was in BC; doing heroics. Everything up to then was pretty easy for anyone with even a little bit of reading comprehension.

If you’re getting kicked from groups and from your guild, my guess is you’re coming across as too overbearing and controlling when trying to communicate with them. Most of the leveling dungeons shouldn’t require too much planning to get through as long as everyone is a decent player. I have no problems holding threat leveling as fury most of the time when tanking a dungeon.

Sounds like a terrible guild. Don’t sweat it.

I found myself in a similar group (I’m a priest healer) last night. I said, “OK, here’s how it works: when my mana bar runs out, we wipe.” (This was not a “meta” comp of 5 AoE including myself spamming Holy Nova, just to be clear. It was two rogues, a warrior, and a shaman (initially), then a mage). I was absolutely correct. After the fourth wipe, the tank started pulling more carefully, the mage started sheeping and the rogues started at least trying to focus the same target down. We ended up finishing the run with no further wipes.

You just got unlucky.

What server are you, OP? Maybe I reroll alliance there and pocket heal you to glory.

Yeah, but, they’re not.

He said he’s getting kicked from every group and his guild, sounds like a lot of people have a problem with the OP. He could be terribly unlucky or on a toxic server (Faerlina & Herod come to mind), but for the most part I haven’t had any problems tanking dungeons so far.

I never said I was getting kicked from every group never even once.
