Normally when it comes to gilblins I’d say no, but considering there aren’t really any other prospective allied races they would be taking the spot of I’d say yes. Mainly because having them be a skin without a waterbreathing racial is weird. That and they could have some interesting customization that separates them from normal goblins I suppose. As long as they pair them with Ankoan I’m for and supportive of the idea.

Yea. A huge part of the reason why many people have a problem with this race is because they think it may come in place of something more desired. However with the new shadowlands UI removing this idea of slots, that should significantly reduce the concerns of that. There are just new races.
As with all aquatic themed races, it just doesn’t make sense to have them without water breathing. Plus I think these guys could actually be quite unique and interesting to play as with some effort. So there is downsides to both them being customization and them being an AR.
If they are an AR, it probably wouldn’t happen till an expansion after shadowlands who knows who long that could be.
If they are a well done customization, then they loose stuff like unique voice lines, good racials, extended lore, starting zone, the possibility of druids, heritage armor and a lot in general. Plus I also have a feeling that if they were customization, it wouldn’t include fin customization and some of the neat ideas I’ve shown with some of my model edits. However if it is done well, at least its better than nothing.

Yeah without water breathing they kinda fall flat. But that also ignores the rest of what they could be. Just being customization seems like such a waste for the Kelfin.
This is an older version of the queenfish model. In some ways I like this better. Its more elegant and relaxed, but I made it the way it is at present since I wanted it to look more edgy and gothic. This one shows the gears though with this hairstyle and a few other of those hairstyles with tentacles.
This one however shows something I haven’t shown before. Notice the sort of web like cap. Though I feel it could be improved, this is the kind of design that I feel would work nicely. This one is using that chest piece old Azshara uses.
This one isn’t even fully textured, but you can get a glimpse of how it looks with red colors.

Just made a new necklace. A row of clams, rope and an amber gem the emits a glow. Gills need some work and admittedly this could be higher res. Not bad all things considered though. I will make some more soon.

It just makes sense. Ankoan and Kelfin are the bread and butter of Nazjatar. Havin one and not the other just wouldn’t be right.

Because of the new blizzard UI, I think there is less pairing in so much as just new races added.

They’ll likely always add them as one Horde and one Alliance, but there doesn’t look like there’s any random limits or actual slots.
Good for the future not to have it so limited.

Kelfin have unique biology from goblins and their own unique culture which is a hell of a lot more than certain allied races taking up “space/a slot” can say for themselves (namely, LFD, HMT, and mag’har). They are a race absolutely deserving of their own distinct place among the Horde.

I remember that post. It has been such a while since I have seen you post. I really like these racial ideas. Forever unshackled is a good one. Thematically makes sense for the race. The special summons ones make sense. Goblins have something that summons a hobgoblin. Vim actually summons sea giants once high enough level. Good choice of names too. Underwater breathing is also one I feel outta be included. The OP of the old gilgoblin thread lost trust level 3 so I plan on making a new thread sometime soon that’s fresh and up to date. I am working on some customization ideas for them.

Regarding the popularity concern, I think that can easily be rectified by a druid class with very unique forms.
Here are the ideas I had for them:
-Flight Form: Waveray
-Feral Form: Snapdragon
-Land Travel Form: Crab (similar to the snapback scuttler from Nazjatar)
-Balance Form: Bipedal Shark in honor of Gral (either using the moonkin skeleton or the arakkoa skeleton like the zandalari balance form replacing the feathers with fins)
-Tank Form: Bipedial Orca using the werebear mage tower skeleton and looking similar to the incredible creation linked below

Ahlanah’s image. Lemme show you something. Not sure if you have seen my Tidal Guardian concept.
I had a concept for an aquatic themed hero class with multiple forms. With the right design and effort put into their model, I believe gilgoblins could easily be one of the most popular allied races. So I’ll show you a few things.
I said it before. Right off the bat if they looked like this, then they would actually be quite popular. This could be improved on also.
I’ve also had this idea for tentacle hair for them similar to void elves.
Bioluminescent tattoos, aquatic themed decorations/jewlery. In cannon they have glow in the dark eyes too and one could get very creative with their aquatic themed skins.
More ideas here. Now admittedly there is an uncanny valley issue I have to fix with this face. In due time.
Also working on fin shapes. Hope this isn’t too much of an information overload. So far I have 7 done.

I enjoy making these model edits. Perhaps I will make a visualization of some unique looking druids forms sometime. Although I have to be careful not to put too much work on myself to do.

It’ll definitely create less competition between fans of different things! But I definitely think both factions should get something at the same time still just for keeping things equal otherwise it adds into bad feelings of one side of the game to the other more so than normal I would think.

It was so frustrating dealing with all the vulpera/gilblin drama. I wish they had never had this idea of slots from the beginning. Would have saved so many people a heck of a lot of frustration.

We don’t want any Horde bias cries for sure. It’s a good idea if it’s one to both sides each time. Or 2… Or 6…yesss.
Yeah. They always had to do one for Alliance and one for Horde but they’ve always had that fairly even in the past anyways. They could still have done that without this inherent limit on the amount of possible races.
In truth though there is no limit. Blizzard said this is how they intend to add races going forward. So skys the limit.
