If it costs more than a couple of sandwiches, three sandwiches top, than I probably won’t buy a digital item.
A token is about 2 sandwiches. I will never really miss that money on an impulse spend.

To answer your question OP, as to why anyone would want to collect or keep things, I would say it’s the same reason I personally do it. Because I like the way it looks, I don’t have any care as to what other people think of it, and my keeping it is solely for my own pleasure.
I’ll definitely be more careful about the gold and time I spend on unreasonable drops after this experience, there weren’t a lot of precedents until late 2022.
Say with world bosses, with this experience when super low drop rate mounts come out you need to consider: can I wait 7 years or is it better to farm\buy them now?
Back then there wasn’t the wait 7 year option, no one knew, but in my mind 1 in 2000 drop sucked so badly that I refused to farm them, just bought them on BMAH when they appeared (was only sha, nalak, galleon at first), started farming oonda (incredibly long due to bad luck) when spawn was reduced to 15 mins and was lucky with rukhmar, which means I got it while farming gear before any other world boss.
I don’t think I’m going to be stopping to consider waiting a decade/nearly a decade for something to maybe become available in the shop if I like its appearance now.
You could be dead in the next 10 years, the game could be shut down. Why would anyone plan things in a game that far ahead? Seems ridiculous.
I poured several thousand dollars into this game just to play it as long as I have, and I get constantly disrespected by the devs’ own disrespect for their lore. They wiped their rear ends with my money in my face with SL trashing all previously established lore and making the chronicle a fancy roll of toilet paper. These cosmetics are meaningless in comparison to that.
Dying game is on milk the community while the ship sinks mode
Yes, I don’t really like to plan so far ahead actually, that is also why I farm stuff with as many toons as possible, to shorten the timespan, even if it takes more time per week\day etc., also for the same reasons. But I could decide: should I spend 300 hours on this mount or just wait?
But we’ll see when it comes to it, as for now we still didn’t get an incredibly time consuming mount since they nerfed those drop rates, there was one, the cobalt shalewing I think (didn’t do anything in the new area) that was rumored to have horrible drop rate, but blizz already fixed it.
Ah, yes, lore can also drive people away, I’m not lore driven but have a few friends who also complained about lore going downhill since legion.
your fault for hoarding these, Blizzard did not set the value that players ask for these things, the players did so this is all your fault for paying what some random seller asked for it.
Like always to this I will answer: did blizzard stop a second and think what discontinuning tcg source would do to prices?
That they would become more and more scarce, that people would still want them and prices would go up?
Their deal with Upper Deck ended. That’s why it was discontinued.
Oh good lord. What does it matter if people have it? This obsession with keeping things “rare” is so lame and pathetic.
You can’t wear all your logs, ride all your mounts or have all your pets out at once.
Just bc someone has something unlocked on their account doesn’t mean you will even see it everywhere. But whoever wanted it bc it completed their vision of their toon will be happy.
I say let playera be happy, and the miserable misers that want to hoard everything just fade away fuming over their lost “precious”.
why are people still holding onto tcg items to try and flip them at this point anyways?
What use is for gold these days when the game isn’t heavily gold sinc as it was back in the days.
wait are we talking about people flipping them ingame or in real life? im confused.
I think it was in-game. Dunno if anyone though is going to admit they’ve been selling them on unofficial third party websites for real money.
some people arent very bright.
THey play games like irl. its an investment!
Eve has this too. MMO’s with setups like this do. Why I can’t wait to see how messed up star citizen gets.
That has a player base that has bit into many fund drive deals. Investments. That game goes 1 of 2 ways.
Old imba pledge drive stuff wrecking game. or they balance and tick off all the people who have funded over many many…many years for pledge “exclusives”.
but but…I gave $100 for a ship that did this 10 years ago. you gave it for free to the noob who got bored last weekend and said wth, lets try this game. I was gonna sell the noob that ship for lots of (ingame, ofc) money…rabble rabble rabble.
Popcorn will be needed for that one really.
monetarily it isn’t a smart investment to hang onto it this long especially now that twitch drops are dropping more and more old unavailable items. its not like real estate which you can usually depend on to appreciate in value.
They just posted about a current DDOS over this and the charger mount and talking class action lawsuits as the lawful option
go ask here:
I mean, technically you didn’t ‘lose a fortune’, because you didn’t have a fortune to begin with. You had items that might have sold high. But until they do… they’re not money. They’re just items. You didn’t a have a fortune of gold, you had a few items in your inventory.
