Diverse options are great in theory but in reality end up with sub 3% playrate like diaper gnomes and not ogres. Meanwhile emo elves which aren’t even what people actually want have a playrate higher than gnomes and dwarfs. Giving the alliance tolkien style elves could legitimately help their quickly declining population since blizzard refuses to allow cross faction grouping this is a rather important issue to address.
It wouldn’t.
I can support that though. You’d think after they did the cross faction morph thing in that raid they’d pull the trigger.
Sure but if they wanted to do that they would have already done it, but we’re not seeing any noteworthy High Elves from Northrend, Outland, or other places coming back and suddenly thinking it’d be cool to risk turning into void monsters just to spite the Sin’dorei. (Which I imagine the Blood Elves would just laugh at them if Blizzard really wanted to humiliate the Void Elves further on that.)
Awe yay I’m glad! I thought you were saying you weren’t in it. So I’m glad to hear it!
They aren’t playable though. Silver Covenant high elves while alliance affiliated are not playable. What is playable are fel infused corrupted elves that joined their ancestral enemies and the people that betrayed them and don’t fit with the high elf fantasy in really any regard besides looks.
I imagine they haven’t figured out how to right now. They’d have to replicate very specific circumstances.
They aren’t either of those things. They just have green eyes and for all we know they’ll all be getting golden eyes soon.
I was hopeful they would. When they flat out said they wouldn’t was when I seriously started looking at going horde because I knew it would open the floodgates and kill an already tiny pugging community.
Also yes giving the alliance high elves could absolutely help the population you underestimate how important aesthetics are to people plus it’s quite possible a number of people who have quit over perception whether correct or incorrect of bias might give blizz another shot.
Your word against mine I guess. I was sitting there for a long time and no one even knew who I was until I got pinged one day. My policy was to never post until I got a notification, which means someone had to literally ping me.
That’s exactly why they won’t and shouldn’t become playable. That’s exactly why Void Elves happened. It gave the Alliance something similar while respecting the Horde’s aesthetic.
In lore they are. In lore they fed on living creatures to satiate their mana and killed the addicts who couldn’t get their fix due to a variety of reasons or overdosed and became wretched. The whole idea of high elfs with regards to the alliance is a people who persevered through their addiction and found non living sources of energy rather than taking the easy way. The original blood elf racial was stealing the lifeforce of creatures to use in an explosive burst of power and feed their addiction.
Yet horde is allowed purple night elves and we are back to perceptions of horde bias.
Everyone complains that the Alliance is boring and generic… then wants High elves because that’s the boring generic standard in fantasy…
Dalaran is Alliance and Garrithos was never part of the forsaken (he was killed by them) so I don’t get your point about Betrayal.
I’d say actual betrayal is sending assassins and sabateurs to hurt the blood elves under the cover of diplomacy.
No, they got green eyes from being near fel crystals used to power enchantments and spending time on irradiated Outland. If the Lore was consistent, Alleria and her group would have green eyes too.
Not fel.
That’s your take on it, but I think Alliance high elves took the easy way. Running off to human and Dreanai hosts to suck on magical artifacts wasn’t a solution for everyone, and Alliance high elves were happy to judge their kin without being part of the solution.
I think that those are certainly too similar, and they should have used the actual Nightborne we saw in Suramar. Those were plenty different.
I know right?! Alliance high elves are more other horses.
No horde players complain that the alliance is boring and generic and say stuff like trash gnomes are cool.
There is a claim by many antis that the alliance specifically lord abandoned the blood elves while ignoring that the blood elves joined what lord now is which is the forsaken.
So technically they never left the Alliance.
But mecha-gnomes are cool, they just need more customization options. I’ve literally never had a funner time RPing as a specific race as I do with my mechagnome.
They really aren’t because the alliance has no tolkien style elves only dark/forest elves and hot topic emo elves. Meanwhile the horde has both tolkien and dark style elves as well as a variety of classic style monsters. Basically something for every taste while the alliance is missing one of the core archetypes that is associated with good righteousness etc.
Mechagnomes should not have been a race subset they should have been added to regular gnomes as customization options but without the insane transmog restrictions they have.
