I don’t think they can be not connected to the Sunwell. I know, Void Elves - but inconsistency. Then again, whether Void Elves are still high elves or not is unclear.
It doesn’t look like the reference is in our references tab, but I’ve seen dev commentary pointing to the high elves stranded on Outland and the Blood Elves that went to the AU still being connected to it as evidence of that connection transcending space-time.
Elves are intrinsically connected to and shaped by their magical font.
I always figured it was the one in quel’danas that they got that power from in outlands.
I feel like I heard something similar to that for outlands, but I wasn’t sure about AU. That seems way too… uh vague. the connection to a sunwell TRANSCENDS TIME AND SPACE.
when you mention the magical font, I just think of it like they are a cellphone trying for a signal.
I’m not sure since I’ve heard the silver covenant, as of legion, they don’t draw upon arcane for anything, living beings, artifacts, nothing. They’ve turned into pretty much wood elves. Especially the elves that are younger and never even seen the sunwell. So, since they don’t use magic as much as blood elves who use it for everything nor have an addiction, they don’t need the powers of the arcane to the same extent. So they can live in a similar fashion to the humans who don’t need to draw on mana as much.
I guess they just use magic artifacts to keep it in check though like you mentioned, never really looked into it as much before.
It’s certainly possible, but being anti magic isn’t their thing, they are aligned to Dalaran. I think people want the Silver Covenant to be a lot of things that they aren’t. I don’t think we are meant to view them as more than an antagonist in the Blood Elf story and at one point an in for the Alliance to the Blood Elf story.
Though I’m not sure it is possible to quit magic with the Sunwell being reactivated. I think all that jazz with magical feeding was left behind at the end of TBC.
Except most people don’t think elves are boring, that’s your opinion. Blood elves make up a vast majority of the horde, significantly larger than any other race. Some estimates put them at over 400% the population of other races. Why do people not understand that many many people want to play thin fair skinned elves? If it’s what the majority of the population wants, it should be added. Especially with the decline of Alliance population numbers.
On several occasions after the Sunwell’s defilement, Kael’thas publicly asserted that his people would die unless they found a new source of magic. Technically the prince was mistaken. According to Azeroth’s top priests and medics, the only high elves to perish due to magical withdrawal have been the very old, the very young, and elves who were already in poor health. Such a low rate of attrition might be considered an argument in favor of simply forgoing magic and suffering through the consequences. Indeed, a few high elves are said to have succeeded in taking this route through sheer willpower: they survived the process, however unpleasant. Apparently certain magical artifacts also ameliorate the symptoms of withdrawal and might, if sufficiently powerful, be able to suppress them altogether. This is not to say, however, that withdrawal from magic would leave the high elves unharmed. On the contrary, permanent mental or physical damage is possible.
The high elves in [Allerian Stronghold] used [draenei] [artifacts] containing raw, magical energy to resist the lure of demonic magic. The high elves at [Quel’Lithien Lodge] found an item of magical energy and succumbed to their addiction, becoming [wretched]
With the reigniting of the Sunwell, the pangs of their magic addiction are being eased and more high elves are no longer tempted to succumb to it
according to gamepedia. What a headache. I’m done with this haha watch it all be retconned later anyways. a lot of what you said too so thanks.
who knows? could be an eventual tie entirely cut and become human like. with the pang’s growing stronger, it could cause them to want to find a cure or possibly seek out the titans with the help of illidan and become… ARCANE ELVES! Vareesa as the leader! Then we have Vareesa of the arcane, Alleria of the shadow, and Slyvanas of death. Just like the magic chart shows, they’d be the entire bottom of the chart. It could be the reason as to why they added that “the pangs of addiction would only grow more debilitating over time” to make them need to find a cure.
Could also see AU Azeroth to find out what happens that maybe the trolls took over the high elves and forced them out of their home in quel’thalas before the humans could help and didn’t get the power of the sunwell anymore so have an entirely different method and a cure for it. Maybe not in game, but as a comic. Much less likely of a scenario.
Unless you mean that the pangs grow stronger since they weren’t getting mana from the sunwell? And not that the pangs grew stronger because of the sunwell is turned back on. I guess I’ll assume the former. I’ll still post this reply even though I probably replied all this based on a misunderstanding… but ARCANE ELVESS!
They’ve hidden the discord since day 1. Used to be “here, want an invite? Let me reply to you in an unrelated thread and then delete it so no one can get the link”. People were still able to grab the link of course before it was deleted, but it’s never been just open to all.
Just wanted to point out that it is not the font of “openess” and acceptance. The High Elf discord IS open to ALL, and disruptive people or trolls are booted whereas the other is not open.
I am not involved over there so I am not incredibly knowledgeable, but I think everyone is welcome as long as they don’t cause trouble. That’s how most discords work? I can’t remember specific rules.
A strong stance is also taken on language, to stick up for anyone in the discord anti or pro if certain things are said. So it is both open to all, and makes active attempts to keep it welcoming to all.
I for one am one of the many Blood Elf fans in it, and often always try to validate both the Quel’dorei and Sin’dorei points of view as it adds to faction conflict in my opinion and both are valid. Blood Elf fans do not need to feel against High Elves on Alliance, and High Elf fans do not need to be anti BE in their reasoning for HE’s.
You should check it out! If you do ever check it out, its for the most part a wonderful place with a dedicated love for High Elves of course, but Blood Elves too actually from a lot of us.
Why do you care? People have the right to have private discords.
With how rude a lot of the pro-HE posters here are towards anyone who thinks stealing a Horde race just because you don’t want to play Alliance is not the way to go, I can’t blame em.
This is a sentiment I agree with, I’m not a part of the Anti-discord at all but from being one of five moderators on another unofficial discord for a mega-thread discussion on another game forum, we get trolls galore and make sure those willing to have actual discussion get invited and not every troll off the street. But we do that because well there are only five of us moderating it. The owner doesn’t want to because it is full of drama from time to time and the regulars often don’t want to either because of how toxic the discussion can be. If they have a similar problem with finding people to help moderate I don’t blame them at all.
These people are rude.
“Lets make an entire Discord dedicated to trolling and derailing topics.”
I was an anti-helfer to begin with until I found out about this. Now I sometimes pop in and casually keep the threads alive when you guys aren’t spamming them and doing it yourselves.
You agree with him and are a moderator of a certain discord, but his post reeks of bias and only regards one group as being the bad guys, but doesn’t take into account the anti’s are just as bad if not worse with their behavior and general rudeness towards other.
No, Guzzle and Tarrok initially posted the invite in the forums publicly.
When people came in and used our Discord to attack us where the forum moderators couldn’t see it, we started restricting it. Kirela was one of those people. Then we were zerged.
