Join a guild, seriously

Yeah, join a guild. That’s the SOLUTION to everything. I hate when this gets posted, because let me explain to you what ACTUALLY happens when you join a guild.

  1. You join a guild because they raid, they do M+, or some combination of these items. And of course they make it seem like you can join and be part of these.
  2. The first few hours / days after you join, they try and be nice to you, they pretend like you matter. They might invite you to do something with their alts, or their alt raid where you get to run on your main with their undergeared alts (prepare to die a lot).
  3. After the newness wears off (I’ve seen this happen in less than 1 day), you sit in Guild chat and ask to run M+ keys with people, even asking for help with your key. In response, crickets. Yet you see that there are people in the guild running keys, just ignoring you.
  4. After you have had enough, you start messaging people directly. And that’s when the truth comes out. The guild is full of cliques of people who do things together, and you’re not a part of any of those cliques. As I mentioned above, if you’re lucky, they’ll be happy to join your key on their undergeared alts and help you deplete your key at the speed of light, but no way you’re getting to play with their mains, as that doesn’t provide them any benefit.
  5. In the end, you’re stuck pugging keys, raids, etc. as you’re not part of the established guild or any of the sub-cliques in the guild. I give this realization usually about 1 week before you ask yourself, WHY AM I IN THIS GUILD and /gquit.

So yeah, guilds are always promoted as the solution to all your problems, when in reality, they just introduce a whole bunch of new problems. Yes, in theory doing things with an established group can be better, but any guild you are joining already has that established group, and you’re just that awkward friend they brought along to point at and laugh.

Well by your own admission you still did stuff you weren’t able to do without the guild. If you don’t get invited to more, maybe it’s a you problem? Not trying to be a jerk I swear but it would be foolish to admit there’s not a gap of sorts between players, be it social cohesion or skill. Not suggesting this is you but to be the devils advocate, maybe the guilds you were in or trying to get in isn’t quite the level your at currently. I like to going casual/social prorgression. If there’s enough people and enough people active, you’ll find some friends to do stuff with consistently. I like to advertise what I want and my skill level/play style when joining the guild and whatever it is I’m doing with the guild at that time so there’s an understanding and expectation

Edit: to be clear I’m not supporting or advocating this kind of behavior. People suck sometimes but that’s unavoidable, leave em if that’s the case and keep searching. It may seem like they’re all the same but there’s just too many people for that to be the case.

Edit edit: also to be clear, I don’t know about the join a guild meme but my it’s very nature your better off in a guild than pugs. For example if your not good at running but your trying to run in some hey fellas, get actual running shoes. It’s not gonna magically make you a runner but it’s objectively better

I never joined a guild where I wasn’t at or above their level of progression. I get what you’re trying to say, yet my experience has been the same every single time. I could understand if I was 20 item levels below them, or had zero raid progression, but no, that’s never been the case.

pretty much.
Both large guilds I tried out early on were just a bunch of great people.
Im sure some guilds are horrible based on some of the things posted in here, but certainly there are good ones and its easy enough to shop around till someone finds one.

Outside of guilds, this community makes this game suck so bad that Blizzard is having to create SOLO dungeons and delves now so people can enjoy that aspect of the game without the degenerates in game ruining the entire experience

So you FINALLY found a good one? Seems like you clearly know how hard it is to find a guild that is right for you. How much trial and error did it take for you to find it?

It can take YEARS to find the right guild. Not everyone is willing to put in that much effort and I can absolutely understand that.

I prefer being outside a guild. And oh, this solo content you speak of (delves for example), are actually easier in a group except for a few class/spec combos. But I would much rather PUG than put up with a guild ever again. The only guilds I actually enjoyed being in all left the game at the start of BC and at the end of Cataclysm.

Why isn’t it simple?
Guilds are always recruiting and now there isn’t the issue of being on a low pop server.

More importantly, join a guild that you actually enjoy being in. You aren’t bound by blood to any guild, if you’re not enjoying the atmosphere, don’t feel included, or aren’t having fun, just leave.

No one else should dictate your fun, and WoW is infinitely better when, even if you’re playing solo, you have people to share a laugh with, link that cool mount drop to, and celebrate achievements.

Joining a guild doesn’t mean you have to always play with them, but it will improve your experience.

It was a lot, but it wasn’t necessarily at my detriment or some giant obstacle to cross. You just type some words or /gquit. Better than running pugs and having a miserable time. Every expansion it was the same, every time I left and came back to try and progress is was the same. Can’t get into this group cause I was lacking an achievement. I got x item level but this guys got 2 numbers higher, well I’m not getting picked. I’m not familiar with the dungeons so I’d get booted. Same stuff different toilet all my years of playing. A guild just helps finding the right toilet.

Also whenever joining a guild or some level of “upper” content, I always label myself as a newcomer. While I’m not new to the game and there’s a lot I know, there’s a lot more I don’t know. I find it helps finding people who are more willing to teach. Just gotta be humble in my experience but it’s important to communicate that

And seek out like minded players in the Guild you join. Even finding a small clique that meshes well with your in game goals can be a game changer.

1000% this right here. A single buddy can completely change the experience of the game.

Since the bush era I have been advertising ‘recruiting repubs to laugh at, must have vent.’

Needless to say no one ever responded except to lol.

Stop being a raging victim complexer and get some friends…TODAY! ONLY YOU CAN STOP BEING ANTI SOCIAL IN THE MMO. I’m just kidding, it’s 2024, you’re speaking to multi-generations of people who unironically think disagree with someone is toxic behavior.

I wouldn’t want to socialize with most of these people.

How I see it is that most you people only want a guild to do certain activities and that’s about it. To me a guild is about more than that and that’s why it’s so hard to find a good guild. A good guild to me is a guild where you get along with people but I don’t get along with certain types of players these days so that’s on me. So many of you are gear driven and that’s the only reason you play the game, to see your item level increase when you log in.

As a GM, this is usually kinda true, even on MG most folks just aren’t around cause they did everything in early access for season 1 that wasn’t gated and now they’re mostly done and gone.

Surprisingly trying to turn an MMORPG into an MMOARPG or lobby game didn’t bring in as many Esports people as Blizzard had hoped and it ran off enough of their own older clientele that LIKED an RPG for them to somehow have less with both combined than they had before they tried to make WoW a lobby Esport.

When they say: “retention rates increased” in DF and TWW, what they really mean is… “hey BFA and SL are no longer bleeding us to exsanguination of players.”

What’s the alternative?

If people think the pugging environment is awful, then the only solution to that is to either avoid group content altogether, or join a guild / community that you like playing with.

Those are the options. If you have a better alternative, please enlighten us!

My point is that people always say the grass is greener on the other side. But in my own experience, it’s not. It’s just a different shade of brown.

I don’t know what to tell you, then.

For the people who:
Don’t enjoy pugging and
Don’t enjoy joining a guild and
Want to play group content

I think it’s time for a new game

It’s just like life bro, you’re either grandfathered in or you’re so good at something you can’t be denied. Friendship is a myth, we can’t get title being nice to the guy with a good personality who cant set focus and interrupt.
