I see on the forums all the time about toxic groups, certain behaviors, being kicked for little to no reason. Groups going to fast, groups going to slow. Can’t get invited because of ridiculous requirements. All that stuff.
Hey, I get it.
I’ve put off doing group content for many expansions because of horrible experiences I’ve had myself, but join a guild. It will all change. I finally found a good one where it’s active, friendly, social and has people of all levels and skill to do content with. It’s got nothing to do with being a good or bad player, your guildies are your friends, there won’t ( most likely) be any toxic behavior to ruin the game for you.
I’m not defending bad behavior of some people cause Thrall knows there’s no end to it. But to make your life easier and game more enjoyable, just join a guild and do the things you like to do with people who have similar expectations or who are willing to teach and be understanding
Ah yes. The old tried and true “just join a guild” or “just get some friends” arguments. Do you have any idea of how much of a meme these arguments are at this point? You may as well start telling people to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps”, it’s about as useful.
The problem you’re vainly attempting to grapple with is that it’s just not that simple. Never has been and never will be.
I’m just gonna say it, you aren’t gonna like it. Most people that are overly friendly in guilds etc. are usually terrible at the game and just using the power of friendship to get carried.
That’s a whole nother problem, most these days just have an inner circle and leave the rest to fend for themselves and it’s rather difficult to create a guild different from the rest believe me I’ve tried.
So most guilds have 10-15 average players, 5-7 great players, 5-7 below average. If you are fine carrying people then sure join a guild. Or if aren’t the greatest, well you better start being funny.
Joining a guild is a HUGE commitment. You have to join guilds, see if you mesh with those people, most have cliques that do content in small groups so good luck getting into one of those. So you do what? Try another guild and see the same thing? Jump into their discord and try to talk when you’re the odd one out?
Or maybe M0’s and Normal raids shouldn’t be so inaccessible to most of the playerbase ? Maybe tanks and healers shouldn’t be abused for playing at a pace where they can learn the mechanics ? Maybe spamming delves shouldn’t be the best way to get higher level gear ?
Finding an active guild that isn’t run by a small cadre of family and real life friends is rare. Or you get to choose to submit a job application touting your wow accomplishments.
People would way rather come up with any kind of excuse than they would putting effort into socializing in game. I partially can’t blame them but I also don’t pity people with defeatist mentalities or victim complexes. A thread like this falls on willingly deaf ears.
I had one in Legion. Great guild, able to down heroic raids and M+15s, friendly, cool people. Of course they disbanded. I’ve never been able to find a guild even remotely close to that since.
I don’t really like playing by other people’s schedules. I just like pugging – going in and out of groups. It’s how I’ve always preferred to play wow. The community has become untenable to support any enjoyment of that playstyle anymore. The solution isn’t to play another way how I don’t like playing.
Solo gear progression is the solution. Been a long time coming, and so glad to see it finally coming to fruition. Just need mythic tracking, and more of a resource focus. The future of wow is bright now.
