I didn’t know that no new customization makes the game worse.
content means raids. That what devs only care about
Dang team must be small, they can’t get the 7 polygon hair modeler person to add a few more styles and colors.
This was something I was afraid they’d do. I do not see the point in then doing these crazy options for a form we don’t even get to play in. They didn’t do anything different for Worgen, so why these guys? Why wouldn’t you just throw some eye options that look draconian and throw them on the ‘human’ and direct all the effort into the dragon form?
I mean, idk about you guys but my human form isn’t even a thought for me when playing a Worgen. I would have fun rather they just given us eye options and let us be any race we wanted for the ‘human’ form.
People enjoy playing characters they feel look good. No one wants to invest into a character that looks incomplete or bad. Not everyone picks their characters based on racial abilities either.
Edit: Customization does relate to content. The way raid tiers look has an influence on whether or not people farm the sets for alts or other versions. Xmogs kept people doing dailies in Korthia even though ZM is out. People leveled allied races for heritage armor. All of these things relate to content.
I think they might be using Dracthyr as a testbed for new features too. They mentioned they would have different body types, so I am hoping that will come over to other races as well.
I want to play a skinny Dragon person, others want to play a buff Dragon person. Choice is good. That goes for other races too. People should be able to choose whether they want average, skinny, and muscular at the very least. It lets characters look more unique, and adds so much variance into the people out in the world.
It’s a RP thing, and this isn’t a bad thing. As long as other races get this treatment too, then I think it’s great. With Dracthyr especially we have this super amazing Draconic form with tons of scale patterns, frills, and horns. We can show off our creativity in sticking those all together, but we ALSO have a neat little human form we can play around it, RP in, wear whatever transmogs we want, etc. It’s just about fun and choice. Something WoW has focused very little on as of late.
While I intend on staying in Dracthyr form as much as I can, there are lots of people who will switch to Visage whenever they can. Also, to use your Worgan example… Worgan fur forms do need more love, but their Human forms benefit from whatever the Humans get.
While customization is nice and beneficial to the game, in all my years playing with a casual old farts guild have I ever heard someone say, “Going to take a break until we get some more customizations.”
I said that. Others have also said that. Not buying DF until I see the customization and race /class combos I want.
I took a break after nightborne came out. I was so mad about their half finished models.
Honestly, I just want to be able to “mount” with our wings. Give me a mount form like Worgan. Make me cast it even, I don’t care. Just let me get around with my own wings. I know they said we would be able to use the new dragonflight system, but what about flying/mount speed in the old world too?
As for switching to Visage on a mount? Eh… I don’t love that, but I get it. A winged creature riding a winged creature can look odd, but I wish they had let us make that choice. Maybe you were just tired that day and didn’t feel like flying a million miles. The whole tail and wing thing is a cop out, since other games have had both races with wings and long tails and they managed mounts fine. Heck, in EQ2 Iksar tails used to shoot right through mounts. It looked awful. Eventually they changed it so they just curl up beside the Iksar when they’re mounted. Charr tails in GW2 do the same thing. Aerakyn wings in EQ2 work with mounts, too.
Obviously there’s a VERY vocal minority on the forums. Point being I think they give the issue a massively outsized importance.
Which is why I personally would have had them rather focus on the races as a whole and just let us choose our Visage race. Give us some eyes that look like our dragon eyes, give us some horns and paint scales on our skin or something.
To each their own I guess, but I just don’t see the point of all this effort on reused models.
You’re looking too far. Draenei tails in this very game do the same thing lol.
I don’t see the winged creature riding as weird at all. You have legs, why do you ride a horse/use a car? You can walk!
That said, having access to the full dragon riding talent tree upgrades with Dracthyr form, and normal “flying wild” in the old world is the minimum compromise I’d want for not being able to ride in my real form. I have no interest in being an elf.
I’m kinda hoping they open Visage up more in the future. I mean… I like what I’ve seen so far, but I am usually more a fan of dark elf kinda things. Still, I can’t complain too much as they do look really great. I would have used the female Belf model rather than the human one myself, but I guess they wanted to keep that kinda of androgynous sort of look. Belf females are kinda wispy. Which again brings me back to wanting the option to choose body types for all races.
Heh, in my defense, I’ve been stick on Horde. Never really got to play a Draenei.
I agree with the rest of your post too, though.
I don’t understand this either. Worgen have running wild, why can’t Drakthyr have a flying equivalent?
Yeh, exactly. Even if I have to cast it every time I herb or something so I don’t step on Druid’s niche. Would still make me happy.
I can actually see this really cool animation for the 2 seconds prep before take off in my head.
I mean why not do both?
I think it’s just the case of throwing all your eggs into one basket. …As well other features announced with Dragonflight. People are in their reasonable right to want both because… expecting the basket to hold all the eggs is kind of an unreasonable thing at this point considering we know how these sorts of things break.
Unless it’s shown and tested to be very darn good basket that holds all or at least 95% of the eggs. …proverbially speaking. Nobody wants a crappy dollar store easter basket.
…Also, off-topic, i don’t like those chocolate easter bunny things or any other holiday shaped chocolates like chocolate santa clause. They never taste right.
It’s not just a vocal minority. WoW players have been trained over the years that all that matters is player power, gear, and systems that combines the two. In basically every other MMO out there customisation and choice are super important. Heck, a lot of em even use additional hairstyles/dances/skins are rewards for quests and such. People like things like this, but because they are not tied to player power or content as WoW players have seen in their game, it’s dismissed.
WoW is trying to broaden horizons, and that’s a good thing. It’s trying to bring some of the fun and choice back to the game instead of this just being a gear simulator on the train to being a Warcraft themed Diablo.
Yeah, that’s not good, I have to say. ESPECIALLY since they can’t be all classes. In fact, they can only be one. And it’s a new class.
This customization work should have gone to the races people have been playing.
This is… very frustrating news, not going to lie.
