Yep, but the forums always go nuts over the most trivial things.
Contract: “I agree to not be a toxic jerk.”
Forum Users: “I can’t agree to that, I quit.”

lmao! I have actually done this. Was at a lake side one morning and was invited by some very nice people to check out their church. I walked in straight from the lake and no one batted an eye or gave me a dirty look. The people were very happy I came and asked me to come back. Maybe this church was the exception to the rule, but they made me feel welcome. Too bad they were too far from my home for me to visit on a regular basis.
first, most ppl who act like tough guys on the internet would not even dare say the same stuff in public, hiding behind a screen is not a reason to say every insanity that cross your mind
How is “treat others with respect” an unnatural expectation?
What is the definition of being a Douche?
Is it a reportable offense for me to play Feral even though Balance is strictly superior? After all, I’m clearly hamstringing my group by not playing optimally.
99.9% of these kinds of threads wouldn’t exist if they didn’t call it a ‘social contract’.
Coulda called it “Terms of Fair Play” and everyone would be quiet.
You’re intentionally being obtuse.
While in Azeroth, do your best to:
Connect with other players and make friends! Being courteous in group content can help you and your teammates have the best time possible. Sending a friendly hello message can help set your group up for success.
Play as a team with your fellow players - whether in dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, arenas, or out questing in the world. Do your best to support your team through your communication and behaviors so that you can all celebrate your success together.
Assist other players that you encounter in the world. Maybe they need some help defeating a tough monster, or maybe they could use a little healing!
Help answer questions others have in chat channels like General or Trade. We were all newbies once - one person offering some help can go a long way!
LOL its not the ‘don’t be a jerk’ part that’s a problem…its the vagueness on what constitutes being a jerk. Its way too open ended.
Reported. :-p
“It was a joke, man! You people are too sensitive!”
Again, how is “don’t be a jerk” unnatural?
You might need to talk to someone…
I think anything sounding like an agreement like a terms of service would probably have gotten hate.
but had they just not labelled it anything and put up a message saying “Hey, remember to be nice in Azeroth!” with a “We would like to remind you that the Terms of Service says…” people would probably have been a lot less angry about it.
It works for FFXIV for the most part. At least in game.
It is unnatural for some people to behave civilly with other people, especially in an online situation where they can’t tell immediately by visual inspection whether this is a person I should be hating.
Only in public. I’ve seen people be very toxic in groups. But it’s way more rare than in WoW.
You have nothing.
None of the upper portion of their “contract” is natural or achievable and it simply does not belong.
Your type wants to omit the upper portion and concentrate on the bottom. Understandable as it is a losing subject for you. You cannot argue that the upper portion is a reasonable expectation and instead, you prefer to generalize and dumb it down.
You will never force people to stop everything and kiss someone’s butt and hold their hand. Those are “rules” that will not happen and cannot be enforced.
If they had named the popup “Updated terms of service” none of this outrage would exist.
God forbid there be a vague suggestion to treat other people well. “That should not exist! I do not treat people well in life and I should not be expected to treat anyone civilly in a videogame! My rights are being violated by the mere thought of treating people well!”
You have already lost. It feels bad to you thinking that you could be reported and suspended from the game for bullying other players.
Since nobody is asking for this whatever, this is a lie.
Nor this.
Nor this.
I get it offends you that there is even the opportunity in the game for people to be helped, that other people might be helping rather than referring them to you so you can get all hot and bothered and feed your abuse fetish.
Continue to pretend that bullying is normal behavior and wanting not to be bullied is an excuse to be abusive.
Where do these wingnuts get their propaganda from? The orange god of senility they worship?
Maybe.
It just feels like people saw the word “social” and immediately started panicking as their personal Socialism sirens started blaring.
You chose to download WoW, install it and create an account. You went to them and they said, “SIGN HERE” before using our thing you want to use.
That’s totally different than me going to you randomly and shoving a ToS in your face.
Eh every once in a great while you will get some jerk but it is extremely rare. Most people have static groups for the difficult content as well so nobody really rages at each other.
