Is the point of nerfing rewards for Delves to force more players to Mythic?

I wrote in another topic the issue is M+ progression. There’s an on ramp early in the season, and then they shoot up, and then people who want to jump on the ramp again are having issues because the progression has passed them.

This is uniquely an M+ issue. Raiding is only 3 tiers, M+ just keeps going. Delves aren’t the issue. They actually offer people who missed the early season on ramp to gear up quicker to jump back on. Delves are being used as a scapegoat for a unique progression problem only M+ faces.

Wouldn’t touch mythic dungeons regardless. Heck not even a fan of delves tbh. Pretty much only do instanced content nowadays for the achievements, then never really bother with them after. Open world content has been my progression pretty much since Mop. Game already has too much instanced content and doesn’t need more imo. Quietly waiting on a Legion classic. That is when open world play was at it’s best in this game imo.

I don’t expect them to actually nerf the rewards from delves. Doing so is a bad decision when better options are on the table. If M+ isn’t being incentivized enough in lower keys then they need to provide more incentives for lower keys. Not nerf everything around M+ to make it more appealing.

different interviews give conflicting answers

this is from a more recent interview compared to windows central by comeback kids

Delve Rewards

  • They are super happy with how delves have become part of the endgame loop

  • Delves have given solo players a chance to get Hero track rewards across the board

  • They are concerned about giving rewards past Hero track as that may undermine motivations for doing group content. We’ll see what the future holds.

  • Brann will have a Tank spec in Season 2.

  • There’s a lot of design challenges behind swapping companions every tier. Now, Brann will be the War Within companion and there will be a new one in Midnight

  • There will be a new Delver’s Journey in Season 2

Honestly surprised they are even considering that as a possibility.

People may just want to skip M+ all together.

nothing will force me to do mythic, Im happy to sit at 619 if it means I never have to do one again.

Raid or Die was just swapped for Dungeon or Die.
Blizzard is completely inept at balancing content rewards against themselves.
Raids got devoured by M+, they never bothered to balance the rewards reasonably.

Which is why you occasionally see people (me included) advocate for just splitting up the pillars entirely so they don’t have to worry about it.

As things are currently:

  • Normal and Heroic raids are invalidated by Mythic+ AND Delves
  • Mythic 0’s thru Mythic +7s are invalidated by Delves
  • Delves are just outright better than anything else (until players get into either M+8s or Mythic Raiding)

As far as general gearing is concerned, anyway. Obviously Raid tends to have the strongest trinkets + an item or two with a special effect, followed by dungeons, now followed by Delves.

i got a 626 warp blade from the weekly box for doing 4 heroic dungeons a few weeks ago

im more than happy sitting at 619 and having a rare opportunity for 6/6 hero upgraded gear as a bonus

Participation is down, largely due to the dev’s insaitable desire to appease to the esport scene. The difficulty changes directly led to less player engagement with m+, and instead of adjusting m+ they would rather make delves pointless too.

they’re super happy with delves and the rewards they give though. so i think instead of changing delves theyll just change m+ reward structure

Yeah, part of me is convinced it was a misspoke.

Blizzard considering gear above hero in delves? No way. :joy:

the way ion said it, its more they thought about the idea he said it in a negative tone so it’s probably in a ditch

Its funny, delves have made me engage with far more varities of content than M+ EVER did. To get your keys you have to engage with overland group events, which prior to TWW i pretty much completely ignored.

Laregly the people who dislike M+ doso because it caters too hard to a “esports” enviroment, when many just wanna smash dungeons with friends in a chill setting.

Zek’vir ?? awarding one mythic level piece sounds good to me. A one time quest.

delves have given me an opportunity to collect heroic transmogs, right from the season start and some of them look pretty darn good this time around.

something i would have had to wait until end of season in DF and , after an entire 2 expansions to collect prior to DF

This is the truth. Being either carrot or stick, the need is to incentivize (or force) folks to do lower keys. They still should have never done the squish, can’t fathom that. But either 1) incentivize via some sort of currency reward, or rare mount drop options or something
2) force via making folks do low key levels before doing higher.

I need to just put this out here quickly:

The comeback kids actively talked about how much they hate low level keys in their youtube gearing up videos because they had to build up rating while not having any key upgrades.

Thus, they posted in their own videos that people with good gear from delves should just skip the lower keys - and people followed their advice.

So of course they asked Ian what do to about the lower level keys they dislike doing, and it’s so rich to hear him say “Yeah, it’s an issue that people go from delves to high level keys”

Um, hello, Ian? You are talking to the guys who basically told people to do that.

And yes, it’s such a scapegoating of delves. Basically asking for a solution that was self-created, ignoring the fact that people can easily see if a delver has zero experience when applying to their key. But the problem somehow isn’t the keyers doing delves, or that group makers arent checking rating, no no, the issue is delves are too rewarding.

You might as well just say:

“Please kill this content, so my content will be more rewarding”

Let’s just go the ESO route, give each track its own set of gear, and be done with this jealousy nonesense.

That isnt what is being said by Blizzard. At all.
