Is survival hunter fun? why is it fun?

If you think current SV has identity crisis with BM wait until you compare old RSV with current MM + Black Arrow.

Ranged SV shared even less with MM than current SV shares with BM. What’s your point?

Ignorance worn as a badge of pride, what a sight.

When I say that, I mean in that BM and SV have to do with fighting side-by-side with your pet while BM lost its Demo charm of flinging animals at your enemies.

And didn’t MSV get Spirit Bond from BM? Spirit Bond has had been a signature of BM ever since Vanilla…

BM even had Spirit Bond (or at least a variant form of it) as late as Legion.

To be fair, back in ranged SV’s day MM and SV traded things at times. Readiness went from SV to MM and later a classwide talent, Sniper Training was removed from SV and then brought back later for MM, Scatter Shot went from MM to SV and later baseline, and Serpent Sting went from being baseline to SV only. But in each of those cases it’s easy to see why they made that decision and how it made sense. Spirit Bond makes sense as something either a classwide talent (MoP, WoD) or a BM Exclusive (Classic - Cata, Legion). What they did is just a weak attempt to portray SV’s interaction with pets as different to BM’s interaction as if SV isn’t still using Kill Command and a renamed Bestial Wrath.

You mean like the dogclassic talent that no one ever takes?

There’s only so many directions you can go with mastery, it’s gonna increase x damage and involve your pet. Survival would in theory want 0 mastery anyways.

Rename it to appease everyone!

This sure does sound like a BM mastery.

During WoD, I took the Spirit Bond Talent. It made my Tenacity pet stronger. Me too, of course.
I never cared for Black Arrow. It was a poor exchange for my pet.
RSV uses traps, DoTs.
MM uses ranged physical damage, preferably. Mastery for MM means increased damage and increased distance. I’m choked back on it (held back), but still can make a not quite 50yrd. Aimed Shot. Not bad, but quite a nerf from WoD days, when I could make 60yrd shots.

Simce wow is a nerd game, it is important to note that there is a particular kind of nerd that takes pride in going against the grain. In using an obscure or unwanted “meme” class or spec and succeeding, even on a curve. Part of that is sometimes pretending that the spec or class or method of play is perfectly fine if you are smart enough to see it (implying that the player is smart enough and those that don’t enjoy the “spec” are not). Its the kind of elitist mentality behind liking really arcane punk rock and garage bands. Buying “b-sides and rarities” albums. Loving a band or musician then declaring them a sellout when everyone else catches on.

Part of the allure is its unpopularity.

played bm for years and switched 2 days ago having a blast doing m+ atm. The only real complaint is I wish they baked in the harpoon resetting on mob death as well as carve being included in the gaining of 40-yard range when you use aspect of the eagle. besides that I do wish muzzle had a slightly longer range like 5-8 yards instead of melee range for the interupt.

So basically the only real complaint is that it’s melee… sounds about right

Nope, better to move onto other classes and specs.

I will say, though I love my SV hunter in a bubble, I do have more fun tanking PvE content on my warrior.

Is it fun? Yes. Especially in random BGs. But you arent totally wrong either. I dont think that the things that make it awesome (read as my favorite) are readily apparent in most game modes.

“Surv is ther worst spec il never play that!”
“I would never change MM to surv!”

Thats what i said on legion pré-patch… And now i dont even have a bow! :joy:

Always expect to see a “fun is subjective” on threads like these. I find that is pretty redundant as not only is it said 5,000 times a day but i’m sure it’s something the poster already knows. I think when someone ask’s “ Is x class fun” their moreso looking for general feedback on the class feels to plays from the point of view of others.

Pretending to have switched from the opposite side is a very common political tactic.
