there were many after cataclysm took them away
OK let’s say that is true. I think we can agree that blizz made a mistake by not making a 4th spec for hunter for the melee spec. I still believe they could make it happen for the next xpac.
Absolutely not. We never deserved a 4th spec. It makes zero sense.
Or… hear me out. No specs for pure classes. Why do we need three or even four distinct subclasses of hunter? Paladin, yes of course. Tank, heals, dps. Makes sense. The talent trees make more sense for pure dps.
That said, if youre going to have a game standard of 3 specs for all classes (going back to the three trees) deviating from that should only be done if you have to. Honestly, it shouldnt have been done for druid, they should have split druid into two classes.
I see what you’re saying and I can dig it. And the talent trees would go back to vanilla/bc days when you could hybrid so to speak is what your saying?
Sort of, yes, but also no.
Sorry for rearranging your post(the order of the quotes) but I felt that both of these do call for similar answers.
I can certainly understand the idea of continuing class and spec development the way they did, and how the core specializations we got, in Cata, were based solely on the categories we saw, prior to that expansion.
Having said that, in the modern game, based on what they’ve done and how their pholisophies have changed, when it comes to the importance of having multiple identities/fantasies within a single class, I’d argue that the standard you speak of should no longer apply. If anything, I’d say that it makes more sense than ever to consider the idea of adding more specs to certain classes, wherever a particular theme/fantasy is missing, or lacks in means of exploration from a player standpoint.
In the old days, we did not have multiple distinct playstyle options to pick between. We had the core toolkit of the class as a whole, and the respective talent categories found in each class. These categories were designed to add to said core. Essentially, what was the core “rotational” toolkit of for example the hunter class as a whole, combined with most of the talents that were available across all 3 categories, equates to what you can find in a single spec these days(some talents of old are excluded due to how they simply provided passive damage boosts, or reduced resource costs, etc.).
I guess the TL;DR is that the logic of “3 talent categories = 3 core specs max” no longer applies, due to how it’s no longer about picking 1 option to build on a central core. Instead, it’s more along the lines of “pick 1 option, get that fantasy, and said fantasy is not at all like the other ones, apart from a common class-fantasy standpoint”.
I find it very fun. I just started getting into mythics and it’s very engaging. You have a lot of freedom as far as positioning goes provided you set everything up correctly. One small example is if there’s a big aoe coming just dump your focus with raptor strike, disengage then you can do ranged dps with your bombs/KC/KS until it’s safe to go back into melee. You can also aspect of the eagle and continue your normal rotation at range. It’s guerrilla warfare and I love it. I don’t know any other class that does it quite like this spec does.
this is what I enjoy about it.
Finally someone who answered the thread title.
Well done my friend now let those in this thread wipe away their tears of anger and return to the game we love.
Nope, not while posting from a warlock.
On topic though, it’s fun, but I do wish they didn’t move it so far from the legion version. The legion version was quite good, it really just needed a longer duration on the talent buff that you had to maintain and probably just made that baseline.
With the new tier set it looks like it’s becoming some weird pseudo-ranged bomb focused spec now. I loved the idea of melee/pet but with pet families being locked in, a general lack of pet choice unless you have no interest in group content whatsoever and the overall disjointed spec design it’s pretty disappointing in its current form IMO.
Why they didn’t go with a Rexxar-inspired theme is beyond me.
SV has always been about bombs, it is not a time when you do not use bombs. So the tier set makes perfect sense. I’m looking forward to it.
Lol, this is the spec. Its been this way since the beginning of the expansion. It was one of a couple popular builds in BfA as well.
Have you tried playing with your favorite pet? Id bet dollars to donuts you wont notice a difference.
While I agree with your overall statement, I have noticed a considerable difference between using a Scalehide and any non-Scalehide in Torghast.
So I’d say that it really depends on the content.
Sure, it’s fun enough, but I prefer rdps so I don’t play it often.
since i’ve been playing my hunter as survival i’ve had more fun than any of the other classes i play
That may be! SV felt so underpowered in torghast that I resorted to only doing it with my wife to help carry. Guess Ill have to try scalehides.
Scalehides are excellent pets for soloing.
I’m not arguing that scale is easier but I’ve been doing torghast solo at max for months with just any pet (usually wolf for lust) and I’ve had no issue. Even prior to filling up our torghast talent book.
I didn’t think this was still an issue.
Scalehide has lust also. Gorilla is another Ferocity pet with a defensive special ability, but it’s on a longer cooldown than scalehide’s.
