Is Shadowlands even worth being called an expansion?

It’s adorable you think Cata was bad.

I was hoping for some more warlock tears before bed tonight. And hark! Mortis chimes in yet again. Those warlock tears taste delicious… Keep crying, dude, the DHs don’t care about your constant butt-hurt-over-the-class posts.

@OP: The great expansions weren’t great because of their new classes. BC, LK, and Legion all had good story lines. BC, LK, and MoP were fun end-game. BC, LK, and MoP also didn’t have the horrible time gating crap on flying. BC, LK, MoP, and Legion also had good class play, though depending on who mained which class, the same can be said of Cata (gag) and WoD.

BfA is crap because… oh so many reasons. I’ve beaten that dead horse several times on several occasions. Many many reasons. And other reasons, too.

SL is still in development. Release is still, what, 8 months out? My hope are high, but my expectations are low at this point. From what’s been announced so far, it seems like the dev team hasn’t learned much from the constant mistakes that have been being made and compounded since WoD. And yes, I’m including the mistakes of Legion, because fairly good though that expansion was, it had some pretty bad flaws that really came out in Beta for Azeroth.

Welcome to the joke behind call of duty.

Yea cause them doing their own thing is working great!!!

At this rate Blizzard is gonna be more garbage than EA, Bethesda or Bioware…actually after WC3 Reforged they probably are at the bottom of the barrel.

Sure they can call Shadowlands an expansion. Sounds better than BFA part 2.

Their expansions are just patches now and their patches are just hotfixes.

They now make it a point to give as little as possible to cut costs and fool the customer.

You don’t need a new class to sell an expansion. Fix the classes we already have and I’ll buy Shadowlands.

If they can’t do that, I’ll find something else.

No, you’re not the only one. There’s tons of people whining about an expansion that hasn’t even come out yet and they’re already calling it awful.

Either play or don’t play, most people don’t tend to over think things, it’s just a game.

So, they should. I was hyped for BFA and beta was a joke. I should have been hesitant with my purchase.

I won’t make that mistake this time.

No one is using these facts of Blizzard’s failings as proof (okay, maybe some are, but I’m not). We’re simply being skeptical based around it and having a discussion.

Story retconned so much, taking away countless hours of content in the form of quests, raids, dungeons, factions, NPCs. It was a huge risk and it did not payoff plain and simple.

It had strengths. Dungeons required CC and planning, raids were challenging without titanrforging nonsense, reforging was a godsend (RIP), PvP was in a good place.

That said while I (and MANY others) think it’s bad, it’s still better than WoD and leagues better than BFA.

New raids, check.

New dungeons, check.

New zones, check.

New progression systems, check.

New gear and collectibles, check.

Seems like an expansion to me.

How much are they paying you?

It was about it not being a good expansion. Nobody cares about a new class and new classes aren’t what makes an expansion good. That’s why the OP left out TBC because it was a good expansion that didn’t fit his argument.

WoLK: Great + New class
Cata: Bad - No new class (2 new races)
MoP: Great + New class (1 new race)
WoD: Bad + no new class (no new races)
Leg: great + New class (4 altered races)
BFA: Bad + no new class (4 altered races)

Fixed* and there’s pretty much no promises of new stuff in every expansion. We get additional story, we get new lands to explore, and new end-game content. If they chose not to add those 3 things, then it’d be a patch.

All can exist in a patch. You do realize this right? Are you making a joke or did you not see this counter point when you wrote that out?

I liked Cata :woman_shrugging:t2:

I honestly can’t fathom why anyone would feel expansions are decent because of new classes. Monk is the least played class in the game and MoP as a whole didn’t have much appeal to people. WoD obviously had much more appeal since it brought 3 million players back, and it only failed because of cut content. It had nothing to do with not having a class.

Cata deserves better. The endgame wasn’t as good as wrath, but people forget how much qol went into that expansion and it’s sad.

Without cata we wouldn’t have nearly as much class/race combos as we do now, quests would still be disjointed and tedious with drops that aren’t shared with your party, plate dps would still have more health than other classes, hunters would have mana etc.

Leap of Faith, an iconic priest ability, was introduced in cata, jeez people.

Try not putting words in my mouth I never said that. I said that

is farcical. Plenty would love to give a new class a try and would indeed bring back certain people who want to try something new out. To say otherwise is asinine.

New zones, new systems, new forms of content, new (and old) abilities, etc…

Seems like an expansion to me. The leveling overhaul alone is an expansion grade feature. It’s going to revolutionize the way new players access the game.

If your only criteria for a good new expansion is a new race or new class, then your bar is pretty low.
