Is Shadowlands even worth being called an expansion?

You have to be reaching really hard to justify why you think SL isn’t an expansion. Make sure to stretch before hand.

If the new customization options don’t wow me at the same level as a new class or ARs, then I think it will be a very lackluster expansion.

Furthermore, I can see the writing on the wall already with Covenants. It will be the primary point of complaints, as people find out that you can only pick one per toon (essentially locking you out of 3/4 of the expansion content) without some tedious process to change.

WoD had no new class or race. Instead, it got updated character models, which took those art resources.

Shadowlands is much the same, as far as I can tell. We aren’t getting a new race or class because the art resources are going to expanding existing races’ customization options.

That aside, an expansion isn’t an expansion because it meets some arbitrary threshold of groundbreaking new features. It’s an expansion because it has ~3 years (if not more) of development put into it, as opposed to a patch which gets some number of months under a year.

That’s literally it. Expecting anything more is silly. I’ve seen people crying “x is just a glorified patch” for the last 3 expansions. It’s getting old.

OP qualifies as the type of poster known as default wow forum user, these posters go to every thread and have nothing to say outside of their this is bad cause i say so.

Right now we know way to little to give an honest answer to that. As of right now, we know the following
Level squish to level in any exp you want
Increase in level cap
New zones
New factions
New factions alignment system for the 3 houses(?) you can pick to get rewards specific to them
Loose idea of the story
A instance/event system that alter every time you do it (the tower thing)
And an omonus character that is like some jailer/warden of the after life.

We dont really know much more beyond that, so anyone who is actually saying the next exp is going to be amazing, or if its going to be the worst exp ever, is completely talking out of their back side.

The whole point is we don’t know. We’re making predictions based on what we do know and weighing it with Activision-Blizzard’s reputation, which is currently at all time lows…

Which lest we be reminded that legion also came out during activisions control, which is regarded by many to be one of the better exp.

So again, with how little we know about the exp, everyone is just posting predictions at this point, nothing is definitive.

Following WoD where they admitted it was a filler expansion and had so much more time for Legion and had to make it great with subscribers hemorrhaging due to the abysmal state of the expansion and the no fly no buy debacle.

Wolk and MoP we’re also with Activision. That was then. This is now.

WotLK was not under activition, they might have gone through the merger during the end of wrath but wrath was a creation of pre activision blizzard.

The fact still remains, we dont know enough about the next exp to know if its gonna be good or bad at this point. We can speculate based on their track record. Which if we do that, it points toward this being a good exp simply because of the tick tock cycle they have with good and bad exp.

That’s why I’m hoping Shadowlands is going to be good, but just with how many bad things have gone on recently I can’t help but feel it not the case. I hope you’re right and it’s a banger, I really do.

I feel you there, while the track records shows this next exp should be a good one, at the same time, blizzard has also been putting out EA/bethesda tier garbage content so.

Thats not what made it bad.

The fact that 87% of the player base never wanted the talent tress to change or to have the glyphs removed but having them do it anyways is what made it a bad one. They lost 245,336 subs right off the bat as soon as that was implanted.

MoP was “okay”

The majority of the playerbase agreed that it was actually the garrisons being forced into to have players achives end game more efficiently was the major downfall.

I honestly think after shadowlands what ever expansion they throw up will be the last expansion for world of warcraft.

It just feels like there done and have given up all together. like they know its over so they dont care.

to clarify, it was the forced mission table, not the garrison itself, its just the table was tacked onto it so its name is mud. Also WoD was a great exp…until you hit max level, then it sucked because if you were not raiding there was nothing to do.

I think that we know very little about it yet. So kind of early to decide.

If what we have heard is all there is… Yeah. However I suspect there is quite a bit more. Whether they let us in on that prior to launch is the question of the next few months… lol

Would be nice if they released a bit more info, but if they haven’t got it locked down yet… Then best to keep it quiet. The forums don’t take kindly to Blizz saying they want to do X and then it ends up not being feasible and they end up doing Y. = Forums explode. Pyroclastically. Even if Y ends up being better, the forums will still erupt. :weary:

I think they are taking the quiet approach right now… Wait until it’s set and running, then queue us in on it. (Hopefully anyway.)

Still sounds like fun, just not much there, which is what leads me to the above theory.

Patch 4.0.1

  • An overhaul of the talent system
  • Major class changes
  • “Reforging” item stats
  • A new level of glyphs
  • Point systems for both PvE and PvP
  • User interface updates
  • Improved graphics
  • A flexible Raid lockout system

Where on here does it say “New class”?

We really don’t know enough about Shadowlands yet. But yes it is looking grim and no word from Blizzard makes it seem even more so. They really need to update their playerbase soon if they want to quell any fears.

I sort of feel that way too. I hope it’s not the case, but I don’t feel like they’re really caring about the lore or story anymore. I mean Legion was just a rehashed TBC and Shadowlands is just a rehashed WoLK. Rather than make new enemies or stories they seem content with just bringing back Illidan and I bet you we meet Arthas in Shadowlands or something.

All they wanna do is cash in on the hype train rather than earn revenue on their own merits…

The last thing we need in this game right now are MORE classes and races. It’s near the absolute bottom of things to care about at this point.

Maybe not making Ny’alotha a full zone means they can put more effort into Shadowlands? I hope that is the case.
