Oh yes it is. I seen it with my own eyes.
My husband used to MB and all he did was play in window mode and manually click between 5 windows. He’s been playing for 16 years on the same account and never used shady third party software. He immediately uninstalled ISBoxer back in Nov when Blizzard said it wasn’t allowed.
When they banned him, they didn’t even tell him what it was for. It wasn’t until until they dropped it down to a 6 month suspension that they said “cheating.” That had us scratching our heads because he didn’t participate in any activities that would be considered cheating (like win trading.) So we appealed several times and another GM said “exploiting.” Again, scratched our heads. He never exploited anything like rapidly spawning mobs or jumping through a wall. Then he took his complaint to the Better Business Bureau. By this time he’s not trying to get his account back, he just wanted answers. So after some back and forth with them through the BBB, Blizzard down right called him a bot. We were floored. He never had botting software on his computer and nether one of us even know where to get that kind of stuff.
So after a lot of discussion between ourselves and threads that I have read on the GD, we came to a conclusion on what happened. We know he was getting reported several times a day. People would say really nasty things to him and follow him around taking screen shots. We know this because like I said, these people were telling us that’s what they were doing in between cussing him. He mostly ignored them but if someone got too bad he would just link the article from Blizzard’s own website that said MB was fine as long as it was manual.
I started asking some these people harassing my husband if they were getting “the letter.” People on the GD was either complaining or bragging about this letter they would receive from Blizzard that said “thank you for your report, we have taken action against this account” or something to that effect. The problem is this letter was a lie. My husband wasn’t getting in trouble, even though the letter said he was. From Nov to March all he was doing was clicking through 5 windows and that’s not against the rules. These people started figuring out that what the letter was telling them and what was actually happening (or not happening) did not match.
So the conclusion we came up with is they just banned him anyways then dropped it down to a 6 month suspension. They knew he wasn’t using hardware or software to streamline MB. That’s why they accused him of three different things and never gave us a specific reason. Cheating, exploiting and botting are not interchangeable. Usually they will tell you what they caught you doing, even if they don’t give you a time, location or what program they know you were using. If you bought gold, they’ll tell you “hey we’re banning you for being gold.” If you’re a bot, they’ll tell you they’re banning for being a bot (my husband was never given this answer in a ticket, only when he was arguing with Blizzard through the BBB.)
So, I’m not telling this story in an attempt to convince people that my husband is innocent. I know 99% of the people on GD think he’s guilty so I just don’t argue with them about it any more. It’s pointless because for one thing I wouldn’t know how to prove them wrong and even if I did, I would get in trouble for discussing a penalty. I’ll probably get in trouble for this but I’m passed the point of caring. Anyways, I’m posting this as a warning. If you MB and you get reported enough times, there is a chance they will take action even if you do nothing wrong. I’ve read the stories on other websites and like I said, I seen it with my own eyes. Don’t do it if you care about your account.
