Is LFR heading for the chopping block?

I’m not speaking for most casuals. I’m stating my observations:

Turn on trade chat. Watch all the people selling it (and other raids).

For EP you might have to go find trade chat logs.

Just because you are spamming to sell something doesn’t mean you are selling it.

People don’t spam it for hours a day months at a time if someone isn’t buying either.

This is why I love the LFR N’Zoth. Make the casuals earn their loot.

Yeah thats not challenge lmao.

That’s frustration.

Wiping to 10 stacks of determination because half the raid is afk and won’t click neck is not fun.

Why not? This same dude has been selling TCG mounts on my server for like 4 years. He spams every day, but everyone thinks it’s a scam.

As long as LFR exists it’s absurd to try to argue that casuals can’t get epics.

I am not a Mythic dungeon diver or a Raider, yet I have several characters who have only seen up to LFR, Heroic Dungeons, and the Assaults, and aside from their Trinkets, everything else is the purple range with a iLevel of 435 minimum. Most of the gear came from Emmisaries and the Assaults, which really aren’t hard to do. I’ve gotten maybe one piece of unusual gear from LFR total, and that’s the axe that Maut drops which is being used for my Horde Death Knight’s Blood Spec.

The problem is that epics aren’t really epics anymore. When the DPS cap for your gear is half the DPS cap for the max-level gear, can you really call your gear epic? The color on the gear is completely meaningless. Sure, it means that you can disenchant/scrap it for better mats, but it’s not like you can make anything really useful with those mats nowadays.

I don’t know the cut off point, or if they finally scrapped it. But there was a time when the status of Green, Blue, Purple did matter for stats. But they changed that. The last I recall was there was a cut off point. Above that item level, all gear was equal.

IE item level 300 blue and item level 300 people have nearly identical amounts of stats.

So right now, Uncommon,Rare,Epic,Legendary is more to refer to the items supposed rarity, and not how strong it is.

Smaller you say? Like on a phone? :smirk:

If anything, they should remove the LFR difficulty and allow Normal to be queable instead. It’s insulting that LFR drops gear that’s worse than the Emissary rewards, even though doing an LFR wing is so much more difficult and time-consuming than doing 4 world quests.

Back in WotLK, they had a reasonable system. Casuals could get last tier’s raid gear through tokens from dungeons, and with lots of grinding and participation in a handful of raids, they could purchase current tier raid gear. But because, “Oh noes! Casuals in raid gear!” that all changed at the start of Cataclysm. Dungeon gear was limited to blue gear and blue gear only. That was fine, considering it was early in the expansion. Then the first content drop came. Dungeon gear was finally “epic,” except for helmets and weapons, but its item level was lower than the first tier of raid gear because, “Eff U casuals!” Then came the big exodus, and Blizzard relented. They finally went back to the old system where you could acquire previous tier gear through dungeons, but they also started going down this stupid path where you could get even better gear through LFR because, “You’re going to raid whether you want to or not, you filthy casual!”

The current system is simply further along that trajectory, and it’s gotten ridiculous. Prior to Cataclysm we typically had two tiers of gear that was considered “current,” depending on whether you were casual or hardcore. Cataclysm upped it to four (previous tier normal, LFR, normal, and heroic), and subsequent expansions have kept expanding it to the point where now we have at least half a dozen tiers (thanks to the nonsense with warforging/titanforging, azerite powers, and RNG-based gem slots).

It’s gotten way out of hand. They fixed a “problem” that no one except for the whiniest of the whiny perceived as an issue, and in doing so they introduced chaos.

I agree. Another way to phrase this is to say that they should do away with Mythic difficulty. The system you’re describing is what they had prior to late MoP. The day they announced mythic was the day I quit raiding in MoP because two tiers of progression (Normal -> Heroic) were already enough of a nightmare to endure. I couldn’t imagine adding a third tier to the mix.

I have to say I’ve never thought of it from a social perspective even though I’m an introvert myself. I like the forcing myself to become more social as that is a weakness of mine as well. So I see your point. And yes as soon as you give people normal they would ask for heroic sad thought that is.

Well said!.

It would be my i finally get to play new mmorpgs then plan thats it really lol!

Mythic raiding is the most enjoyable raiding experience in the entire MMORPG scene. Nothing comes close to the enjoyment of progging it for a lot of people.

I fully believe normal is easier than LFR.

Removing Mythic raiding would be a disaster.
