Is Hiding Your Character Shameful?

You’ve had 20 posts, why do you care about other people’s profiles being hidden? The armory isn’t hidden, if you’re that nosey about their raiding experience you can just go to the search character screen on the opening page and type in their name. All the hide profile thing does is keep you from seeing what threads people have been posting in, and their forum stats.
If you think you need to discredit people because you can’t win an argument based on words alone you still can do it.

I love watching this thread, it is simply my new favourite passion on the forums. The self-destructive path of the OP, the cultured and reasoned replies of his dissenters, the counter-arguments filled with irony, self-deception and altered reality filters just makes watching all of this too much fun.

I appreciate this thread, Furbb. You’re my new favourite delectable delight. Stick around the forums more often my love, you’ll come to know who I and my tentacles really are.

Because I can.
And if doing so invalidates my opinions, criticisms and ideas in your view, that’s fine. I’m not losing sleep or playing time.

You always make me smile.

Actually this is my main.

No people post on alts so that someone can’t be high and mighty like you’re being, it’s designed to put the people that are full of themselves off balance. It seems to be working as best I can tell based on your replies.

In which case you are discarding the opinion of quite a few mythic raiders, and anyone who might just like their privacy just so you can feel better about yourself. Honestly I’m losing patience putting up with this, this has been explained multiple times throughout this thread.

I actually can’t answer that for legal reasons.

Legally they are not entitled to anything, nor are you. They have no right to look up anything. As it happens you could just look them up directly on wow-armory if you really want to. Hiding their profile doesn’t stop you from doing that, or raider(dot)io, or warcraftlogs etc. But as mentioned before, anybody using critical thinking skills should be able to call out someone who hasn’t actually done the content pretty quickly as they are going to make obvious mistakes in what they say.

It doesn’t throw you off balance to see someone with a hidden profile giving a full-of-it opinion, you just disregard it because the information isn’t credible. All I’m saying is Blizzard is enabling people like you, who just sit on the forums all day, to give strong opinions because you are intentionally making it more difficult to people to be critical of you.

Mythic raiders don’t spend all day posting on the forums so it’s really a nonissue. Really? You’re saying people go private because they want privacy? I thought this was a social video game where you have no real ties back to reality, not Facebook. If you have a problem with people sending you things in-game from your forum posts you’re probably spending too much time being cancerous on the forums.

The issue is people pretending to be something they aren’t on the forums. It’s pretty easy to make any old BS sound good over the internet. That’s why fake news has become such a big problem. All I want is to stop the spread of fake news on the WoW forums.

People do it because prima donnas like to use ad hominem to reply to someone rather than actually answering them.

The drama does make for some good entertainment.

It’s unfortunate when it can derail and overall constructive thread.

OK let’s get specific. Please point out a single post for us, on any thread in any topic, in which this additional armory analysis was important. Until then I’ll continue to believe I am neither being unduly influenced by, nor influencing others, with any of your alleged “Fake News.”

More. Give me more Furbb, I know you can do it. I believe in you.

No matter what your armoury says about you, you’ve certainly made a statement about yourself in this very thread. Your opinion is worth the same as any hidden profile or Character Alt now; you’re become everything you despise. It’s so fascinating to watch someone self-destruct like this.

Gives me chills.

Experience is relevant when discussing pros/cons of systems especially when it gets away from generalities and more into the nitty gritty.

A non-raider saying “i dont like raiding” is valid.

A non raider saying “Personal loot is superior to master loot in a mythic raiding scenario” is not.
Further, if the non-raider said “Master loot is superior to personal loot in a mythic raiding setting” it is still not valid as they simply have no information to base this on aside from hearsay and speculation.

So it depends on the context. If you’re trying to be taken seriously in a thread about HIGH END pvp or pve you should probably keep your credentials visible.

I’m disengaging at this point there are CoC violations already. No point in continuing and I’d suggest others don’t either, this entire topic should be mod locked as it’s not productive.

I agree, though I am going to pout about it. We haven’t had this kind of meltdown on the new forums just yet, I was enjoying watching the fireworks go off. Alas, I shall abide by my Masters will.

On the other end of that a well thought out informative post says the poster knows what they are talking about.

Well since you only have 22 posts you have no forum experience. Why should I believe anything you say?

I’ve seen a doctor use google. I’ve seen certified mechanics use youtube. Both had all their paperwork that said they were competent in their fields.

I want mine to show up. I don’t know that it is, though. I want my mog to show up!
As for why I’m not on my main, I’ve just been more into this character recently. Been consistently posting on it.

This thread where a guy was saying he didn’t want to play with alliance crybabies, when his main is in fact a nelf DH. Just saying sometimes is nice to call out someone who is s$%t-posting

…and there’s the transference. When you can’t get people to agree with what you’re saying…transfer it over to them on a personal level. Who didn’t see that one coming?

Yup. This thread has been truly entertaining.
I can’t wait to see what topic he posts as an encore.
He will probably log on his “shadow alt.”

Well, in my case I do have several “mains.” I alternated between this Alliance toon and my Horde hunter in MoP, my Horde shadow priest in Draenor, bounced around toons in Legion (though I used this toon to get flight), and am now playing my velf hunter in BfA. So I jump around a bit. I stay pretty much on this toon on the forums unless I want to show off a mog or prove that I actually have a Horde toon.

Since you’re going to go with a rl example, lemme toss this one at you. The hubby tends to hang around scientific forums. He was literally discussing nuclear engineering with a nuclear engineer. Guy asked the hubby if he was going to a nuclear engineering conference because he wanted to discuss some things with him in person. The hubby told him he was a tool and parts room attendant. (And other duties as assigned…yes, he’s retired military and that’s his running joke.)

Just because someone hasn’t done something, doesn’t mean they don’t know what they’re talking about. The hubby isn’t a nuclear engineer, but he can talk with nuclear engineers and know what they’re talking about and vice versa.

Something to consider.

Edited for stray letters.
