Translation: this person finds something fun that I don’t find fun therefore they should be banned!
This kind of mentality sucked the life and soul out of the game in the first place, where everyone does the same thing, plays the same way, choice and freedom don’t exist, nothing spontaneous ever happens.
Sure. There has to be a limit though. I’m not implying that this line was crossed in this particular case. I don’t know nearly enough to support either argument.
I think part of the free sub problem is that on Twitch…you can gift people subs/credit them things.
For example, as a streamer, you can pay for a specific persons subscription to your channel. Some streamers you can watch them only if your subscribed, others you can watch them even when your unsubscribed.
Let’s say I’m a streamer and your in my chat. I can opt to pay for your subscription to my chat. It’s effectively me gifting you something…without you needing to do anything in the process. I don’t spend a lot of time on Twitch…so I think it’s possible to be gifted subs / things you don’t necessarily ever do anything with.
The GM being in the chat with his GM name is a problem because it puts him in a situation where a player/customer can gift him something which is a problem. If the GM was in Twitch chst under a different name…and then popped up in game under his GM name…it’d suggest he could have been in Twitch chat…but the streamer wouldn’t know who to single out and ‘gift’ in chat.
The streamer thought he was being a nice guy here (twitch subs are menial amonts of $…were talking 4.99-9.99 a month in many cases) but really what he did was put the GM in blast and make the entire situation make even more shady/corrupt than it already does.
It’s a problem that the GM who did the ban for the streamer is also allegedly the same GM who repealed a ban for this same streamer.
WTH is “target’d harassment” on a PVP server?? Targeting the same person over and over and over on a PVP server, even to the point they log off or quit, is FINE. They even say so:
If you chose to create your character on a PvP realm, Game Masters will not address situations where you are repeatedly killed by the opposite faction. This includes situations that may be considered dishonorable such as corpse camping or killing players well below your level.
Do you honestly think that corpse camping someone for days is fine but suddenly targeting someone and dispelling their buffs is BANNABLE?
I believe the free sub is the most worrying part of this. The evidence and ruling are both unknown to the public, while it is clear that they accepted payment, intentionally or not.
It throws the entire case into question and is arguably completely partial. It discredits the entire process.
Streamers who claim “stream sniping” always get a laugh out of me.
Like, you’re broadcasting your location to everyone. It’s not cheating if people look at where you are, you’re making that information public. It’s like broadcasting yourself committing a crime and then telling the judge “well the witness stream sniped me!”
I remember back in TBC I killed a guy for 3 hours straight over in Elemental Plat. I just didn’t like him for whatever reason and didn’t want to share the resources.
I was Horde and he was a male night elf hunter with a stupid looking face (plus we were fighting over fire motes I wanted and he wouldnt piss off even when I was stomping him which just irritated me even more.
I killed this guy like…15x at least in one day.
There was another Alliance players there sometimes that I never killed (because I liked them). I wouldn’t help them out, but I wouldn’t kill them despite the fact that they were doing the same thing the male night elf hunter was trying to do (farm fire motes I wanted).
Eventually this guy got so mad he hopped on a Horde alt to rage at me. He was probably the most pissed off person I’ve ever dealt with in a video game. Looking back, I could have been more empathetic to him as a person rather than just going by what the rules were in-game.
He was so furious that he kept being killed over and over again by me in Elemental Plat that he transferred his characters (and he apparently had 3) off the server to a PVE server.
I love the kind of PVP this game saw in Classic during part 2…but there are many people who have no business being on a PVP server. It is not a good environment for them and negatively affects their experience.
Did I ‘harrass’ this guy? In the sense that I relentlessly killed him for hours a day in Elemental Plat…yes I did.
I know that he reported me too, and was told by a GM that they were not going to do anything.
If Blizzard doesnt like the world buff/dispell meta, they can make changes on their end to prohibit/discourage the game play we’re seeing.
Selectively granting favors to ‘special status’ people within the games community while you have a different set of standards for everybody else is clearly a problem.
If a person is going out of their way to be matched in the same game as a streamer with the purpose of disrupting the experience for all players involved. They deserve to be banned for it, especially if they are repeat offenders.
I will say, stream sniping doesn’t really translate as well to WoW. It doesn’t share nearly the same impact as other games.
