But that’s logical and doesn’t involve implying blizzard somehow stole their money. Way less fun.
Not only did they get BIS gear for their level they made use of the bugs…like the hunter auto shot never missing regardless of level of mob.
Now, I admit I’m a retail player so I really don’t have much of a horse in this race, but from my recollection, BFD was one of the lower level dungeons designed to ease people into the game.
On top of this, it was balanced around people who were beginners and might be tanking on a hunter or shaman, so as such it would be relatively easy on a real group.
Incorrectly tuned Pservers have brainwashed everyone into thinking low level dungeons are some sort of dark souls experience. In reality in 1.12 they were hilariously easy, sometimes 3-mannable at level.
Citation needed. I’ve opened up every patch note and CTRL+F’d “Elite” and I’ve only found 13 instances where the Elite Mobs were changed.
Patch 1.2
- Most non-elite creatures in non-instanced areas of the world have had their hit points slightly increased starting from level 20.
- Bloodfury quest in Stonetalon Mountains is now marked elite.
- Vagash in Dun Morogh now properly shows his Elite status.
- Besseleth and Arikara now have statistics appropriate to their status as elite creatures.
- Several elite creatures that were missing their elite tags have been fixed.
- Some elite creatures in outdoor areas of the world had higher than normal experience modifiers, and were corrected to award the proper amount of experience.
Patch 1.3.1
7. Decrepit Guardians in Andorhal were changed to non-elite.
patch 1.5
8. Mountain Giants in Feralas now drop loot more appropriate to their elite status.
Patch 1.9
9: All Giants in Azshara now drop cash and items appropriate for an elite creature.
10: The Skeletal Guardian and Skeletal Berserker now drop loot appropriate to their non-elite status.
Patch 1.12
12: Uldaman - Shadowforge Ambushers are no longer elite.
13: Zul’Faraak - Zul’Farrak Dead Heroes are no longer elites.
And that’s it for direct elite mentions. There are some dungeons that got nerfed. Patch 1.3 saw the overall respawn time of mobs lengthened in Scholomance and Stratholme.
In patch 1.4 saw some balance brought to Stratholme again to compensate for the 5 man cap. “The Baroness Anastari encounter has been changed. Players who become unpossessed will now have full health, and after the Baroness unpossesses a player there will be a much longer cooldown before she can cast possess again.” In addition to the new items coming in.
1.6 saw Strath and Scholo lose a couple of mobs as further balance, but also saw their mobs gaining detect stealth. It also gave us Mara buffs.
1.9 fixed Noxxion and gave him proper immunities, as well as allowed him to pull in mobs to help him. The drop rate of Dark Runes was reduced, Altar of the Deeps now gave you the blessing, and the abomination event in Stratholme was fixed.
1.10 gave us some nerfs to Blackrock Spire. “Some monsters were removed to reduce the time it takes to run the dungeon.” and “Spire Spiderlings now have fewer hitpoints.” Lord Roccor in BRD was no longer a rare spawn, but they bumped up the difficulty of Lord Incendius and Ambassador Flameleash.
And then 1.12 capped us off by reducing the number of shadowforge ambushers that attacked after looting the quest chest, and increasing the spawn time of stone stewards in Uldaman. Nerfing Sul’lithuz Abomination, Sul’lithuz Broodlings , and Sul’lithuz Sandcrawler in Zul’Farrak. Buffing Weegli Blastfuse, and that’s it.
So if you have any other sources, that’d be great!
Come on Zin. Before classic it was “pservers are easy because they nerfed the stats”
You know it’s not about e peen or who is a better player. If the dungeons are easy & don’t require care then the gameplay isn’t fun you just stroll through without a challenge… Before mobs hit so hard that you had to play around that . Now they do no damage.
Technically yes as it’s called WoW Classic
While Vanilla was indeed harder than Vanilla, most of us just sucked big time back then, and that is the defining factor. With private servers having existed for a decade now, Vanilla’s mechanics have been sliced, diced, and analyzed in just about every possible way, and players who use that information gain a massive advantage over 99% of original Vanilla players.
Or…
Hear me out here…
Maybe the majority of the playerbase interested in Classic don’t actually mind that its content is made more accessible, like what WoW’s design credo has been since it first released in 2004?
Accessibility is the main reason why WoW was, and still is, as popular as it is. It doesn’t take someone with 150+ IQ to learn how to play. Its content is inherently easy to get into, and that’s entirely by design.
Most of us were children or teenagers when we first started with no semblance of knowledge in how to play this game at its highest levels. Of course the game was hard for us.
Crying about how dungeons are “easy” doesn’t change the fact that they have always been easy and that we were terrible at playing the game, so we made the dungeons hard.
This was linked before earlier in the thread. Did you see this video? It’s from 2006.

They downed Herod as level 30s. No one seems to have anything to say about the proof videos in this thread (eg 4 Manning Ony).
If you look closely he is running just about every buff you can. Dungeons generally were not run with all those buffs
Did you even play Vanilla?
tbh, there probably all decked out in the best gear at level 30 making them basically twinks.
thank you, someone who is actually making sense.
You obviously never played vanilla. They had to nerf how mechanics worked because a lvl 1 rogue solo’d the last boss of deadmines because he had 100% dodge from enchants. A fully bis geared level 30 group could easily do cath.
Real question: is vanilla…vanilla?
Exploiting pathing and kiting are not intended methods to defeat bosses.
But if Blizzard removed the ability to do those things during those boss encounters, people would whine and complain about that next.
People are always looking for cheats or exploits to beat a boss beyond the intended way. People did it back in the Vanilla days too, we just didn’t have Twitch or other social media to blast it out to the public and abuse it on a global level.
If you think you’ll hate the game based on people exploiting mechanics beyond the intended use, then just quit now. You’ll never be happy.
I just did it on lights hope server. My level 34 paladin in tank gear. I went into SM library. The first mobs are level 33 & 34 Scarlett Gallants. They hit my level 34 paladin using a shield for 120 white damage.
This video is the same level 30 warrior running SM library in classic beta. Within the first 3-4minutes of the video you can see him tanking the same level 33-34 scarlet gallant’s white damage for about 40 damage.
Same mobs.
Level 30 warrior- 40 white damage tanking
Level 34 paladin- 120 white damage tanking.
The warrior has no armor increasing buffs in the SM library video. My paladin was using retribution aura to mimic no armor buffs.
Totally borked
LOL WHATTTTT???
You think a level 30 warrior can take any kind of hits or hold agro in SM cath? Did you not play vanilla??That’s totally not vanilla. There has to be something different with the beta. I really hope that’s not what our so long waited for “Classic” is going to be. I just want a true gritty vanilla experience something that I feel like I truly have to respect the game and figure out how to best it, all with the company of my friends. Looking at that Asmongold video just makes me think the game’s going to be super casual. Which is fine if you prefer but I thought that’s why retail version of WoW is still available. Disappointing =(
