Is calling players out for low DPS considered harassment?

Contrary to popular belief people who do good damage tend to do the mechanics that they need to do. Dying is a dps loss you know.

If it’s in the way the Frostmourne community used to do it before they stopped being a PVP server, then yes it is.

I’ve played FF14 and it’s kind of unwritten rule to never let on that you’re actually using a meter. As far as calling people out on bad dps, I guess it depends how you do it.

That’s a good rule to have

If you care about my dps, one of us has made a wrong turn somewhere.

Nope, specifically with mythic+ if you are running multiple keys with one group its nice to see underperformers. DPS meters only suck if you are the one doing poor dps and people who do poor dps either have no gear or don’t know how to play their class in which case they should be called out.

One answer is FF14 is a popular franchise from SquareEnix who are a Japanese company and society there frowns on rude behavior therefore are strict with their rules where WoW is a popular American franchise and for some God given reason rudeness and cruelty is the norm here and vehemently defended.

Another answer is the scenario is about context where one could be advice such as a recommended rotation and reminder of defensive cooldowns is constructive criticism. The other spamming the meters to shame a player, berate them and imply they’re a piece of crap, dont belong in WoW and going as far as to imply they’re less than human THAT is most definitely harrassment and shows the perpetrator to be a complete douche.

Personally,I wish Blizz would enforce their rules and discourage that crap as anonymity isn’t a get out of jail free card to be a prick/c-u-next tuesday.

I personally think it heavily depends on how it is worded to the person.

I play both games and I know that in FF14, you mention anything about DPS meters or numbers in chat is the reason why you kicked someone, they action you for it, but if the party leaves the boss ((because in FF14, raids outside of the 24 man raids are arena style bosses)) you can just get a replacement and continue where you left off at and if the person asks why you kicked them, you can just simply ignore them and not give a reason and they can’t really report you for removing you because the leader of that group has that right to do that.

In WoW, I am sure you could just remove someone and never say anything to them and give them a reason… So that is why if I ever run a group with someone and they are like. Kick them because their low on DPS, I just say… Just remove them. You don’t have to give them a reason because if you do, you are now just giving them ammo to try and make a report to the GM’s what you said.

You seem to be projecting a little.

I probably am. Generation Z and Gen A are too sensitive lol

Every now and then you will get a tank talking about how they’re the top DPS in raid finder.

Harassment, no. Jerkish, absolutely.

Wow doesnt have an “official” parser either. I keep mine to see if i able to do better.

Good luck. They don’t enforce their forum ToS correctly either.

If that player is holding the group back, no its not harrasment, dont waste people time with your lack of skill.

Which one is Gen A and which one is Gen Z?

I never heard of Gen A, to me it went like this…

Gen Y/baby boomers, millenial then Gen Z and that was it.

I find that calling it out specifically isn’t bad, but the way it’s called out and who it is front of can make a huge difference.

The biggest thing is that no one wants to feel like they are inferior to other people because of the way they play the game. We should all feel that we can play this game however the heck we want.

Typically anytime I see someone call out bad dps in a pug group, it’s usually something along the lines of “we have such garbage dps”(or specially saying XYZ is garbage) or something along that nature of having it feel like an attack. Just saying dps is bad isn’t constructive and only leaves the person who is low, feeling bad or thinking you’re just a rude person and won’t listen to your advice due to the way it was called out.

In a few of the guilds I have been in over the years, I personally message individuals to see if they need help understanding a fight or mechanics of their class.

I’m not by any means an elite tier mythic raiding badass, but I can say I haven’t struggled in dungeons or solo content for quite a long time and have experience in every single class and have a solid understanding of most mechanics.

Approaching the callout with understanding and constructive criticism and not making it a public display to shame would be ideal.

Using it to shame other players is frowned on… You can still use them for yourself.

This pretty much, if you are raid leader and you tell some1 you are removing him cause his dps isnt making the cut for X boss, thats cool, now if he gets butthurt then its on him, git gud so you dont get kicked in the future pretty much.

Simply just saying… Maybe the DPS here is bad or garage is not really calling out a certain person so this wouldn’t be really considered harassment. Toxic yes which in Blizzard’s eyes could be grounds for being silenced, but if someone were to say. The DPS in the group is very low, that really isn’t toxic but more just pointing out that DPS needs to pick up the slack a bit.

What about a low io score.
I did play FF 14 and is refreshing to do your job and not look at meters.

In EQ1 and 2 you did your job and that was it.

I come to wow and the dps meter is the center of attention.

Lots of factors can affect your dps, like moving out of damage or you are dead, for example…

And yes, I consider it harassment.

Most of the times this is on you only.

Low io score nowadays means you arent familiar with the dungeon, thats just how it is.
