Anyone who is serious about exerting their “power” over the AH economy is not using the brutosaur to do so. The time it takes to summon the mount mutiple times is greater than the run from either faction capital AH to the mailbox.

I can’t imagine there is anyone with two or more neurons to rub together who believes that Retail Wow will become what WoW was pre Cataclysm was back in the day.

Considering how FFXIV made a run at their number one spot they will probably be more likely to modernize than “Return to the days of yesteryear”.

You do realize they fired their entire customer support staff, right? Along with their QA team. That used to be part of the purpose of paying a subscription. So that you could have someone to go to when you had issues and get them resolved quickly. You do realize that, right?

What are you getting for a sub you don’t get in literally any other online game for free after initial purchase? What’s different between D4? POE? COD? Elden Ring? GTA? The list is endless.

Well I don’t know about D4 or Elden Ring but the other two? What you get is that you don’t have to play Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto.

The mount is very much UPSCALE from the old Long Boi. I mean

vs

One is DEFINITELY an upgrade

Never said that retail will become classic. I’m saying that the current type of player playing wow is only playing because of nostalgia. They have an attachment to their characters etc.

I would be elated if they modernized the game, putting some of this extortion to good effort at attracting new players and making all portions of the game better. But the last time they tried that, it was called legion.

The ability to ride dragons, and give people FOMO for cash.

I don’t have any experience in graphic design, how many employee hours would it have taken to upgrade that mount into the evil $90 bronto?

Right, so every person who still regularly plays Retail is only playing because they have characters and are nostalgic. Nobody actually enjoys the game, we all hate it here, but Blizzard’s forcing us to fork over $15 a month to play something none of us want to play.

You do realize how absurd that sounds, right?

Well, for the sake of keeping it simple:

The dino already existed: Free
They had to recolor it, get approval etc: 20 hours
They had to remove a few things from the Dazar’alor model: 3 hours
Add new armor and saddle options: 12 hours
Testing in a sandbox: minimum 10 hours
Art design to post in the shop: 20 hours
Retail and Marketing: 10 hours

These are all very conservative numbers assuming:

  • Nothing went wrong
  • Everyone communicated
  • No roadblocks
  • Every change approved the first time
  • No one was on vacation
  • Changes did not crash the test environment
  • Marketing department was ON IT with the artwork
  • etc

And mind you, we are talking more than one person on each step.

Okay I didn’t factor in the network effect that WoW has as well. Because WoW is the biggest MMO, it has value added from that alone. Keep in mind that if most of wows mechanics and gameplay were put in a singleplayer game no one would play it.

The MMO as a genre exists to be in a world with other players, but not necessarily interact with them.

Agreed. The game is successful because we CAN group, but don’t HAVE to for most of it.

That still implies that nobody plays WoW because they enjoy the game itself.

How is a mount a “powercreep?” :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Not sure if you know this, but…

You don’t have to purchase the mount.

And it is, in no way at all, powercreep.

Because genuinely what new innovative fun gameplay is there in wow? Its certainly no elden ring, doesnt have the choice or rpg elements of baldurs gate 3, none of the freedom of minecraft/roblox.

Currently it has the best raid fights, I will give you that. M+ is also unique to wow but a new game is coming called fellowship is looking to be everything M+ players want and have been asking for. As for PvP, its been in a death spiral for a while. A new game called ring of titans does it far better.

it has the nostalgia of the warcraft universe from the only good story they told in wc3, and then it has the staying power because it has been the largest MMO for a while now.

I don’t understand while you are insulting peoples’ intelligence for buying a mount.

You also pay for the game and get nothing in the real world from it except less cash in your bank account. Does that make you stupid, as well?

It does what it does well, and I like the content I get.

I own Elden Ring. If I want to play Elden Ring, I’ll go play that. I don’t pay Blizzard $15/mo to play Elden Ring, because they are not intended to play similarly or provide similar experiences.

So 100 hours? Well if it costs them $100 an hour for these people then that says they need to sell a little over 100 to break even.

So if we have about seven million players then 100 out of about 7 million would be one out of about every 70 thousand players to break even.

I don’t think Microsoft stock holders have a lot to worry about.
