I am taking 3 days off work. I’m only a little crazy. It will be a nice little vacation. I am not taking off launch day though…that is just crazy. I will let all the lag and server crashes get out of the way first and then I’ll really get into it 24 hours later.
I don’t play bfa
You climbing wrong tree
Well, many of those retail players will be making up much of the population of classic for the first month, no?
Let’s say for and giggles that 50% of retail players play classic for that first month. Now add all of the accounts that are returning solely for classic. Is that such an unlikely scenario?
I play retail and am pretty much stopping with it (except for raid nights) to play classic.
Even if folks like yourself only play for a week, or a day, the impact it will have on release will indeed be massive.
Launch is going to be a crapfest. If the bandied about number of only 8 servers is true the queues are going to be massive, servers are going to crash and the lag will be epic.
I think the servers will do fine overall. The issues with the modern client are more akin to the way they made the back end. Classic is so lite that there shouldnt be any major issues unless layering really flops
System didnt like me quoting i guess.
I hope they don’t overcreate servers for launch. They must realize that if 1 million are there for launch month, next month it’ll be down to 100k at most, and by year’s end maybe 10k fluctuating up and down depending on whether retail’s had a patch lately.
You’re going to end up with a lot of dead servers and one or two saturated servers if they make too many, which will be very annoying.
Classic is for everyone.
Need to remember vanilla was 15 years ago. Servers have become exponentially better since Vanilla where as the Classic app might only have double the server load that it did in Vanilla.
The wallets are open – so… yeah?
But it will be fun to see an undivided Barrens and an unflooded Thousand Needles again.
Old school Barrens along with old school Barrens chat. Just wait until the onslaught of Chuck Norris jokes begin once again. Not to mention the incredibly taboo things people plan to do with Mankrik’s dead wife.
Ah, Vanilla. How I’ve missed thee.
I don’t think that anyone outside of Blizzard knows how many subscribers they have. It doesn’t feel like there are as many people playing in BfA as there was in prior expansions. It feels like a lot less.
But, that’s just how I see it based on my experience with the game. Yours could be different.
I’ll be shocked if Classic doesn’t have more activity than retail for the first week.
However, I have serious doubts about its staying power past the 6 month mark.
Well, many of those retail players will be making up much of the population of classic for the first month, no?
No they won’t. Retail is making up a tiny % of the population. I don’t expect a huge draw from Retail even though they are pretty unhappy with it overall.
Classic isn’t for Retail players it’s for the market that has been Unsubbed for years. That is where the majority % of Subs for Classic will be.
When Classic hits 10 + million Subs I realistically only expect maybe 100-300k to be from Retail. The Retail players are the tourist and are Subbed to Retail for a reason.
Retail is making up a tiny % of the population.
You are basing that on what exactly? a deep-seated need to be contrarian? Do you sincerely believe that retail players trying classic will be outnumbered by those coming back solely to play classic?
One of the good things that classic will do is the bit where retail says ‘this is so much better now’.
Do you sincerely believe that retail players trying classic will be outnumbered by those coming back solely to play classic?
Absolutely 100% without a doubt that is what I believe and know. Classic isn’t for Retail. The players that are actually Subbed to Retail have a game to play but the players who want a playable version of WoW don’t. That is what Classic is for.
I am a tourist to Retail and Unsubbed last year, vendored my gear and said never again. A lot of my friends Unsubbed several expansions ago. We are just all waiting to have a playable version of WoW again. It isn’t Retail
I also firmly believe that Classic Subs will dwarf Retail total subs. There are more people interested in Classic and real World of Warcraft. Retail isn’t even WoW anymore it’s for a niche crowd. The real WoW players want old WoW to return. They didn’t go anywhere! We saw that when WoD released and 10 million of them came back. It will happen again. History repeats itself.

We are not talking about who you think it is “for”. We are talking about who will be there on day 1, and the first few weeks.

And there is a not small number of current retail people who are playing it currently because it is the only version of WoW available, and will be dropping it like a on classic release day.

There is no separate sub for each (sadly) so what you are saying really is meaningless. My point is that many if not most of those who will primarily play classic are ex retail players who drop retail upon classic launch.
Sounds awesome I get to experience day one of 2004 wow. I started pre AB but not launch day.
