People are also going to join. That is inevitable. Whether the amount of players joining exceeds the amount of players leaving, no one knows. Vanilla and Nostalrius grew, though.
In terms of a month or two post launch? Ehhh I can for sure see it being more people leaving. But if it isn’t, then those people joining can join on the servers that don’t have q times.
You are just guessing, which isn’t a good reason to just assume it will be like that.
I was surprised that they said they are not launching any RPPVP servers, I would have assumed they would have just created 1 if they expected demand to be low.
Apparently blizzard sees demand being so low that not even 1 makes sense. The question is, how will they ever gauge if demand rises if there’s not even 1 realm that can start filling up?
I suspect you believe there will more servers as launch than I do.
I mean I am guessing but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad reason to assume this.
The game is free for retailers. Chances are they will jump into this free game for a bit and then leave. Similar thing happened to HOTS. But there could be more new people that join as time goes on and that would be awesome! It would just make blizzard open more servers depending on how fast they join (or possibly just leave q times up if they don’t want more servers)
Not sure I understand the point you are trying to make. I honestly do not care how many there are total, if they are all healthy and ALL server types are represented, I am fine with it.
Ah no I saw you mention it multiple times you seem adamant they will be leaving a server bereft of players if an rp-pvp server isn’t in at launch and added later and I’m really not so sure that will be the case.
Simple: If RPPVPers band together and choose a certain server at launch (if no RPPVP is open at that point) then what do you imagine will happen to that specific server when those players leave and go to a RPPVP server? The total amount of servers means nothing to that specific server. It simply sees it’s population take a serious hit, and then again as tourists leave it.
Depends on if my suspicion is correct or not. I honestly suspect we will be seeing 3 servers at launch. Maybe 5.
If there are 3 servers at launch and they add more to answer demand I do not fear that the rp-pvp crowd will leave a server deserted.
And lets be honest, you can’t say my suspicion is ridiculous because there surely must be some reason they aren’t having an rp-pvp server at launch.
Dude if you actually think 3-5 total servers at launch is realistic then I don’t know what to say.
Then why do you think rp-pvp servers are being left out?
Classic isn’t like launching a game where you expect to expand your player base. They are expecting it to launch high and drop off quickly.
To be honest it was a question that caught Ion and Lore flatfooted in that Q&A and we haven’t heard anything since. They both seemed to have no clue about RPPVP servers in general, much less the numbers of people who are looking forward to them.
Why do I think they answered the way they did?
A simple blatant disconnect, either intentional ignorance of player sentiment or genuine ignorance.
Thanks to their decision to bundle the subs. It wouldn’t have taken a rocket surgeon to see how that is almost guaranteed to play out. Had they kept them separate, things would have been much simpler. But hey, numbers and $$$$ were driving that decision.
They definitely have some disconnect for sure. They’re never going to live down the “you think you do but you don’t”
But I’m also the sort of person who sometimes reads too deeply into things. My general belief is things are done for a reason, and the only reason I can come up with is a very small number of initial servers and rp-pvp didn’t make the cut.
If there is enough people to justify opening up a server, then that means those new players will either go into the server you just left or they will choose one with crazy q times (assuming the have them).
Nor as I mentioned earlier, are transfers from PVE (RP) to PVP (RPPVP) a thing that is done, much less for free.
In the past. You could only transfer from pvp to pve. Couldn’t transfer from pve to pvp.
What if they don’t offer transfers to that server? Then F U, tough luck? Will people have to reroll after months of investment? Not everyone will reroll… what a great way to hurt and diminish the RP community!
What about people that do reroll… what a great way to have people leave existing servers!
Ion’s concerns make sense, but the execution is nonsensical.
You can have a lean realmlist. You can gauge interest over time. You can do all that by having one RPPvP server at launch.
Also, to everyone getting baited and upset by the troll in this thread, just stop engaging. Their contrarian opinions have been answered many times already. You’re falling into the oldest trap in the book. Don’t feed the trolls.
and the only reason I can come up with is a very small number of initial servers and rp-pvp didn’t make the cut.
Do you think there will be RPPvE servers? Do you think there will be at least 2? If that’s the case, if there is at least 2 (likely will be more) then simply convert one of them to RPPvP.
Here is the two scenarios: Both servers fill up, the RPPvE server is overflowing (or RPPvP), and they open up new RP servers to accommodate the need.
Second possible scenario: There is not enough players to sustain the servers, then merge the RPPvP server (or RPPvE server) with existing PvP/PvE servers.
Extremely simple. Neglecting to release a server type at launch is a very bad move. It has already been clearly laid out why, for those who bother to read and are not simply being contrarian just for the sake of it.
Personally I wouldn’t like it if my server was turned into a rp server and being expected to rp with people in goldshire inn.
Yeah they probably should try 1 at start, but if it doesn’t happen then why don’t you rp people come to forums and decide which server to pool yourselves in that way even if they decide on a different server you won’t have to move.
Do you think there will be RPPvE servers? Do you think there will be at least 2? If that’s the case, if there is at least 2 (likely will be more) then simply convert one of them to RPPvP.
Until Blizzard says otherwise I honestly have a strong suspicion that right now we are looking at a very small amount of servers. Like 3-5. I think only one will be an rp server.
I legitimately struggle to understand how it could be so difficult for them to decide to have an rp-pvp server otherwise.
I always suspected the number would be low, but I was thinking 10-15 or so. But the revelation about the lack of rp-pvp made suspect it was much lower than I initially anticipated as that exclusion seems to defy any other logic.
I’ve never really been one for RP or RP-PvP but I don’t think it’s something that should be absent from vanilla. Some of the best WPvP stories I’ve heard were from RP-PvP players.
