Not according to the developers themselves. They said it would be set by play session, not that you will ALWAYS login to your “home” layer.
So this is completely wrong, unless the developers were wrong, or they change their mind.

i just meant my suggestion is to make them static
You’re missing the beginning of the discussion. This is a theoretical discussion on a different approach.
Ah i see, they were commenting on their “idea” not on the actual implementation. Gotcha.
I though people understood this. I’m not claiming that what I said is what will be done with layering.
I like the enthusiasm, but I think the approach is too complicated and honestly makes it less inclusive to the community than dynamic layers (to me anyway).
What if instead they just had a small number of realms that have NO layering. They are capped at the decided population cap and people who want to deal with it can eat 1-2 hour queue times / disconnects, etc.
I feel like that’s the only way to really solve this issue.
Thoughts?
hey any potential solution is better than no solution. i dont mind that idea but i’m not terribly picky. i just dont want sharding.
That could be the best solution. I would like for them to test sharding (only for the 1-10 zones), layering and none on the beta.
But opening a bunch of servers without these features and others with it, could be the best solution.
level cap is 30 at the start of beta, with possible focused higher level later.
I mean to me, I don’t want queues and/or never-before-seen zone congestion. So to me, dynamic layering so I can actually progress and enjoy the game is super okay to me. I understand though that other people want different experiences. I think they could easily mark servers as…HARDCORE or something to ward people off. Or have a disclaimer they must sign in blood before making a character…you know…something.
i think you’ve solved it. the hardcore servers. yep. will be funny if those have the most population lol!
You’d think so, so why wouldn’t he simply say that rather than leave the question unanswered?
You’ve singlehandedly whined more about Layering today than the rest of the board combined, bucko.
Because their plans could fail. Better not promise something that you can’t 100% back and add more gas to the fire, they’re already against the wall.
Is this really the reason why people are complaining…
Think the classic community just hit a new low
I agree some of the concerns the nochanges community are listing about layering are legit and should be reviewed and explained by blizz, its just those who are throwing a tantrum that I dislike, and I hope they don’t play. I don’t want loot drama because that person didn’t get what they wanted.
This.
I mean, i see a pretty good explanation at the video by Ion. These no changes crowd should no longer be entertained now.
Ion did say clearly and in no uncertain terms that there will not be copies of world bosses in later phases. That part is good. The implication is that layering is gone by phase II.
Now to figure out how to make things work as well as possible during phase I while layering is active, maybe ways to make layering last but a fraction of phase I.
How are people still mad at this? Its not even going to last all of p1. Stop being babies
If people can’t handle server queues and slightly crappier questing due to overpopulation then they are not going to stay in classic anyway
