So is this going to be cross-checked against your friends list? Who wants to logon and be placed in a layer, and have friends logon and be placed in a different layer? And if you get into a guild fairly quickly, will it be a 50:50 chance that each time you logon you’ll be in the same layer as your guildmates? And if that does happen, will you still be able to chat with them, trade with them, party-up with them, even though you’re both in different layers?
This sounds a lot like CRZ(light) to me … fewer calories, fewer carbs, but still beer.
That’s what I’m asking. Do WE control which layer we get placed in, so we can coordinate with friends, family, guildmates to be sure we get placed in the same layer? Or will it NOT be up to us but decided by someone who doesn’t know and couldn’t care less who our friends, family, and guildmates are as they randomly assign us to different layers?
As for how it’s going to work, are we presuming we’ll be able to do those things I mentioned? Or has Ion and crew actually said folks in different layers will still be able to do all those things together?
The layers are continent-wide and will have very high player pop caps.
If you want to play with a friend, family member, guildie, etc., invite them to a group. It won’t matter what layer you all are in, you’ll be pulled together when you group.
AFAIK we won’t have any control over what layer we are assigned, but all the devs are saying that this solution is extremely short-term so I personally am willing to live with it because IMO, it seems much preferable to dynamic sharding.
Literally what he said about layering is the most intelligent response Blizzard could have on the issue of “sharding vs. do nothing”, as they also intend to launch fewer servers.
People still stamping their feet about layering can feel free to go play Hearthstone or Backgammon or stand in a corner with their arms crossed, grimacing, if they so choose. Ya’ll just being ridiculous.
Will this also apply to chat? Will you be able to still chat with your whole guild even though you might be spread across multiple layers? Or are they actually going to ensure that each login you will go to the same one as an already online guild member?
So many questions. Really needs a Blue clarification.
