Interesting PCGamer article about the cinematic

What many are not understanding is this is the very reason we are upset with how she is being written, because we do appreciate the character and her place in lore, and truly hate the way all of that lore and history is being destroyed by simp’ing.

If it’s on PC Gamer you know it’s serious.

Maybe her popularity is only with extremists who go to things like Blizzcon? I dont mean that word in a bad way, just extremely fanatical fans?

I have been playing Warcraft games since they came out (one of the only companies back in the day that released on Mac when PC released) and I have never thought of going.

I know people who did, but they also had family who worked at Blizz in Austin and CA. They lived and breathed this game in a very unhealthy way

Warcraft’s story has always been propped up by hype and the pathetic “rule of cool”. The story has always been bad. It’s just now that there is a character people don’t like they took off their hype shades and have realized it sucks.

You know I was going to mention that but I also assumed you’d know the difference between a fictional story character and food. I guess I was wrong.

Don’t you think people are being a little over dramatic right now and that we should probably wait to see how all this plays out until the end of SL first? Criticism is fine but wait to see the whole picture before coming to conclusions.

No, no it really doesn’t. There are people that actually praise the WOTLK story and don’t realize that the WOTLK version of the lich king was an even worse written version of the Jailer.

No one knew about the jailer during WOTLK… As it stands at its time of release, WOTLK is by far one of the most if not the most popular expansions WoW ever had.

Are you implying I have to wait until the end of Shadowlands to decide if the writing up to this point has been less than stellar since 8.x?

That doesn’t pan out.

Popularity does not equal quality. Look at pop music or even pop culture. A lot of it is trash.

Twilight, Game of Thrones, Hunger Games, 50 Shades.

Wow much quality

Game of Thrones is another example of something people loved but hated the way it ended. I have a friend who considers the last season of GoT non canon and is gonna wait for the books to come out.

Here is a piece of information for you. Many were almost gone before this. Over much of the same thing - the Sylvanas focus front and center.

She caused me to abandon the Horde in BFA.

2 years ago I started FFXIV and played a few months but since I play with my adult son, he dragged me back. We had fun mostly in old content and I made probably another 14 or 15 characters.

When I saw the cinematic for how Sylvanas wiped the floor with Bolvar? I really wanted to leave. I spent time in Classic and hit 60 trying to stay.

I got 5 main characters to 60 in SL and 3 of the covenants to max renown, Still hated the game.

Finally got my son to go back to FFFXIV because he hated the story as well. We had already left but I still have 4 months or so on 2 accounts just gonna get eaten up. - I havent logged in for a month.

I showed my son the Sylvanas cinematic and he just said he was so glad we are gone. FYI - my son is fully disabled and cant work. The only thing he has had for maybe 10 years is WoW - he could be classified as addicted. This story broke him that bad.

Let’s say that the main character makes some… very stupid decisions that make no sense in the context of the adaptation but well, are better explored in the manga.

But their example is even worse than that, because they’re acting as if side snippets somehow will make the entire story better, which it doesn’t.

Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the sub stories of the covenants (not the Night Fae one, that one was incredibly stupid), but when the main plot begins to unfold… well, let’s say that after reading the first few quests at Korthia and guessing that we were going to walk right doing what the Jailer wanted us to do, I didn’t bother reading anymore.

Majority of cosplayers care mainly about aesthetics. If it looks good, they will cosplay it.

This poster simply thinks that, somehow, the aesthetic value, translates into good character, and it’s frankly laughable.

You’re the one that thinks that “cosplays = good character” so…

I will say this is actually quite a good point though, we don’t have any way to actually make “meaningful choices” in this story or any major faction based story because we (as they said) are for all intents and purposes faction locked and can’t really say “well I don’t like sylvannas anymore bye horde” or “Jaina is being a bit of a racist kirin tor mage so bye alliance”.

I like Shadowlands story.

Meh I didn’t care for it like right away. Not trying to pull a hipster or anything. It all just felt like it depended on shock value. If something wants to be shocking, it needs good bits in between the shock. Heck even violent anime knew this. Or something like the Crossed series of comic books ( if Ya’ll are squeamish don’t look that series up. It’s good but not for everyone )

In some things it does. In the case of a fictional video game character it does. If characters suck people generally don’t like them. This is also about perspective too. People will like what they like and there will always be those who don’t like what someone else does. Could Sylvanas’ character been presented to us better over the years? Yea. But so could everything else.

I wasn’t a super fan of it but I enjoyed it. I prefer fantasy settings where there is a lot of wizards though.
