Just came back to Wow after a long break. I was trying to do the Secrets of Azeroth questline, but I can not get the quest “Preserving Rarities” to begin the questline on any of my level 70+ characters. Its just not avaible to me. I was told that I needed the Tricked-Out-Thinking Cap to start the questline, so I went ahead and got it, but I still can not start the questline “Preserving Rarities”.
Was told to speak with the bartender, so I did. But when I talk to the bartender, he doesn’t give me the correct document with the cordinates for the Torch. Instead he gives me the Day 2 document that requires the Torch of Pyrreth toy as opposed to the one with the cordinates. I looked everywhere, went on Wowhead, asked ChatGPT what I’m doing wrong. I have tried EVERYTHING, and nothing has worked.
I don’t know what else to do. I really want the achievements / rewards for doing this, but due to this bug I’m unable to get it. Wanted to add, that I do not use add-ons.
Good news is this forum serves as an Information Desk to help folks navigate the Ticket system, Support articles, explain policies, explain account services, etc.
One of the things that Tickets are NOT for is to get game hints or help with quests. GMs are not allowed to do that.
Blizzard wants players to either figure it out on their own, or use Community resources such as asking other players, or using third party sites like Wowhead. The comments on Wowhead are esp useful.
Here is a good over view of what GMs can, and can’t do.
First, let’s cover some things that a Game Master is generally not able to do.
Game Masters are unable to provide Game Hints.
Game Hints consist primarily of providing information on the functionality of the game, drop rates and locations, encounter mechanics, etc…
Game Masters are not Developers. They cannot change game design or otherwise circumvent intended design, nor go beyond the policies that are in place to ensure everyone has a fair playing experience.
Game Masters are not able to resolve potential bugs in-game, though they are sometimes able to help with issues caused by a bug.
Game Masters cannot provide Beta access, they don’t have keys to hand out. Nor do they have release dates for patches or other events. If it is not listed on our website, a Game Master won’t be able to tell you.
So while a GM can’t assist you, hopefully some other forum folks will be able to point you in the right direction.
Edit: This is the secrets thingy ain’t it, so maybe not a bug and maybe the secret has not been solved by the OP yet. I suppose that is a possibility as well. Good luck!
I can not even start the first part of it. I was able to skip a part, but can not do the first 3 parts that was skipped or get the Torch toy that is needed for future parts of the quest line or the Mimiron Jumpsuit mount. I’m not suck, the quests just aren’t avialble to me.
Mirasol covered it pretty well, but what you’re asking for is covered by the first bullet point at a power of several magnitudes.
Even on the forums where they have more leeway about giving game hints, they are expressly forbidden from providing any assistance with the Secrets. Game Masters would lose their employment.
This bug was fixed. But the resolution of missing stuff, while they said they’d try their best, simply was not possible in the end. I do understand that a lot of people want to conflate the two as one issue.
This, so far as we know, is also not a bug. Just a result of more changes they made to the API.
As for the general focus on long-standing bugs that are still around years later, a lot of people tend to favor that drawback when looking at the much more extensive list of bugs that are fixed, particularly of a game-breaking nature.
Their process is to triage. Bugs that affect a larger portion of the playerbase (or the entirety, in terms of game-breaking) come first, followed by the others that don’t affect as many. That list is always fluid, as well-- newer bugs will be exposed with patches that might take precedence over older bugs.
But that doesn’t mean that they weren’t necessary. Sometimes things have to change for reasons that we’re left wondering about. They could very well be good changes for the longevity of the game, not necessarily the player. There are always changes that no one asks for. There is nothing permanent in life except change.
There will always be fractions of the whole that will entrench themselves in one of three outcomes-- unhappy, like you; indifferent, like me; and happy. There are undoubtedly some players that like the changes when you have a base of millions.
Also, for what it might be worth, they do disclose active bug fixes with their content notes updates. There’s usually a decent goldmine of details provided in what was wrong and what was resolved.
And one last thing before I bow out, we mentioned it before when threads about the API change first started popping up, the only way to make your displeasure known to the development team is to submit your feedback in the appropriate forums. Quite likely it would be over in the Achievements forum. But do be ready to provide some examples and framework that you think could work well for it if you want them to reintroduce a new function of that system, as the old method has been deprecated and likely cannot simply be revived. They’ll be building a whole new system from scratch, I imagine.
It will take some time to implement, and there’s a very good chance that it’ll never happen. But it certainly won’t happen if you don’t make it known.
You don’t know that. You don’t like that there were changes, but you don’t know the ins and outs of why the changes were necessary any more than any of us.
And with that dead horse being brought up yet again in some argument you bring here? Sweet mercy. I wish I had a nickel for each of your alts you’ve used that in your arguments over time.
The number of people this might impact is minimal in comparison to those who will likely never run into the issue. Because this is some way you like to play does not make it a game-breaking issue. You don’t have to like it - but just because you say it’s a bug doesn’t make it one. This could be working as intended, just as much as it might be a bug.
You know where the door is, then. And how long will it be before that server is shut down, as all have fallen in the past? It’s only a matter of time.
Nothing is ever guaranteed. Not server up time, not small features such as tracking, not allowing character transfers between accounts. Policies change. Updated software and programming necessitate changes that benefit the most current expansion and the largest pool of players. Unfortunately, some people’s choices and preferences will not be catered to.
It’s on each player to make the choice as to what is their final breaking point. You’ve been threatening that point for a good time now. Neither Blizzard nor your fellow players will try to hold your hand and keep you from taking your business elsewhere. But you’ve long been told what this forum is for, and you still come here to bring up the same issues and new like anything will be done about them by posting here.
You can unsub anytime, just go to your account management. What you can’t do is get a refund for game time you’ve already played. And if you have logged in at all you have used time.
And what is this blathering about messaging? There is no official blizzard rep you can message in game. You have to submit a ticket for a refund but be prepared to be told NO.
And Blizzard has never supported private servers so IDK why you even bring it up on an official Blizzard forum
Tickets can not fix bugs. You have to wait for the devs to fix the issue, I had one not long ago and took about 4 days before it got fixed. Just have to put in a bug report and be patient. Also look at wowhead or any other site that someone might have found a workaround. Sometimes something simple like not being mounted can fix issues.
Not long ago there was a quest I could not get though with the campaign quest because would not let you set a combat role for bran. Well they fixed that and took about 4 to 5 days. Depends on the bug, how hard it will be to fix. They prioritize what they fix, Included in that choice is how it effects players, how much will it take to fix and guessing so much more.
Bug report and move on. Do not put in tickets for a gm. they are not there to collect bug reports!
First of all, those “private servers”, are actually pirated servers, and are illegal, and should not be talked about here within the forums.
Illegal Drugs or Activities
This category includes both clear and masked language and/or links to websites containing such language or images which:
Reference to abusing illegal drugs
Reference to performing illegal activities
If a player is found to have participated in such actions, they will:
Be given a temporary ban from the forums, depending upon severity
Blizzard has all different teams working on different parts of the platform. World of Warcraft Development are the ones involved with the game development, and they do not visit Customer Support forums. Game Masters are involved with account related issues, and don’t come to any of the forums. QA Team is involved with investigating bugs, and they don’t come to the Customer Support forums. The only Blizzard that does come to Customer Support Forums are the Support Forum Agents, and they’re responsible for the Customer Support forums and Social Media. The SFA’s doesn’t take in bug reports, and the SFA’s are involved with the game development.
GM’s aren’t also involve with any game suggestions or feedback. All this is on the development. I don’t think Blizzard would go down that path, but that is not for me to say.
If you have any feedback or suggestions you’d like to pass on the development, then may I suggest using the In-Game Feedback tool or any of the other forums such as General Discussion forums
Game Masters are not responsible for fixing bugs. If you encounter a bug, you’d need to report it appropiately in the correct location so the correct team can investigate and pass the info along to the development to fix.
You have the option to cancel re-occuring payments so the subscription does not continue. The remaining days of the subscription will convert to game time and will stop when you were suppose to repay for the following month if had the subscription still going.
Now, I don’t need to relink the Forum Code of Conduct, but I would recommend you avoid trolling the forums even further.
Ask politely in the UI and Macro forum. There may be a variable you can set manually for this.
That was a design decision made by the Devs. You can give feedback on it either using the in-game support option or by making a constructive thread in General Discussion. Stick to how you feel about this limitation. Insulting Blizzard employees is not constructive and does not bolster any point you have to make.
It doesn’t appear to be a bug for this one, but that’s why I asked. I tested on the posting character, so I want to make sure that they are seeing the same thing.
The problem you are running into is that the secret questlines are…well, secret. They are always hands-off when it comes to game hints and such, but if it’s possible, they are EXTRA hands-off with the secret questlines.
Wowhead has very complete guides, and there’s even a couple popular WoW Discords dedicated to finding these secrets in the game.
So, if you think it’s a bug, then you want Bug Reports. But any kind of quest help, game hints, “I don’t know how to do this questline” is always going to get the “Check community resources, such as Wowhead” response. The secret questlines, even more so.
While Blizzard may not work at the speed some players want them to work, it’s crazy to expect a “private” server, with rarely more than a couple people hosting on less-advanced technology, to somehow have less bugs and be more responsive than Blizzard.
