What a disgusting take. When you do art for a game, you get loose guidelines of what they want and then you draft until everyone is happy with the result. To say artists aren’t artists because they’re following guidelines is so gross and insulting. You’re basically calling artists sellouts if they find job security. Get out.
And yet you’re acting like these artists are children unable to handle criticism. These forums are TAME as heck (they have to be) but even if people didn’t get banned for using naughty language being an artist isn’t all “OMG it’s so wonderful!”. It has nice elements but it also has a lot of rather “meh” such as the chest and legs which look more like PJ’s than any fey dragon theme.
I work with animation and I’ll say first of all, I highly doubt that your average artist gets paid more when something is released in the store. The company I work for will occasionally give you a bonus or a raise if they see you did an exceptional job on something, but who I work for also tends to care about the well being of the employees, blizzard is pretty different in that regard.
Second of all, you have to accept people will be mean to you on the internet if they don’t like something. You just gotta move on and not care, listen to criticism that is presented in a well meaning manner and ignore people that clearly have no idea what they are talking about.
Can agree, debating on commissions while treading carefully. Have art buddies who deal with their fair share of choosing beggars quite often. Movie posters, animation on TV, shirt prints, merch with fictitious characters on them, album covers, etc. That are frequently purchased=art so the argument of artists being greedy for wanting to make some funds off of what they love to do is kinda asinine.
Imagine being that arrogant and asking for credits without providing any. Not that I’d ask someone to post that on a WoW forum. Not sure what you’re trying to accomplish by putting other artists down because they had different experiences from yours. You’re not much better than Fairslay.
I’ve tried my hand at modeling and texture for mods. ground up. Hated it.
Retextures can be a pain too but something about finding any form of joy in 3d to make the model first…I have not done that.
So a few go to mod makers I like…it ain’t much but here is 5 or 10 to your patreon. Ive tried and said nope. Mad respect to those who do this. And do it well.
So to the GA’s many here do like your work. And we understand its not you after the product is made. That would be “the suits”. They can damn near ruin anything once they get involved with their crap.
