Imagine being an artist

Sadly, it happens all the time. People don’t want to pay huge amounts for commissions, so artists rarely charge over $50 because if they did, they’d make more money per hour, but they’d get a LOT less commissions, so they’d make less money overall.

People just have no idea how long pieces take to finish so they don’t want to pay artists hundreds of dollars for a “drawing”.

This is in part due to nasty people, but can also have to do with portfolio + size of client base reputation etc.

I know plenty of artists who charge well over $50 per / com because of their reputation.

Except you didn’t say something like “I’ll berate those who say…”. You said ‘you’ as in ‘me’. Either use the right grammar or your aim is lousy.

It isn’t gross. It’s opinion. Sometimes the method isn’t great but people are still entitled to it. You are. I am. Even those who express it badly are entitled to it.

Look, I don’t like every piece of the set either, but you won’t see me comment “eww the chest and legs look like garbage.” I’d rather focus on the pieces I do like. And if I didn’t like any of them I just wouldn’t say anything because I know other people will enjoy them and I don’t need to add to the negativity. I’m not saying I’m against every form of criticism. By all means, if I post a piece of art somewhere and I messed up the lighting or whatever, please DM me and let me know. I like constructive criticism so I can get better, but vile comments like the ones being posted here are not okay.

you know what blizzard could do. Let them put this much work into designing other peices of gear you could get ingame that aren’t just recolors of older sets.

Or, they could add a recolor of this into the game itself, since I do not believe blizzard artists get payed off commissions.

Then they should have made something that looks remotely appealing.

Just because they’re artists doesn’t mean they get praise regardless of what sort of garbage they churn out. The sprite darter transmog looks absolutely atrocious and they should feel bad about putting it out there.

Or if you post something in public expect peoples opinions and stop being a little cry baby.

Imagine trying to imagine without having an imagination

Imagination having an imagine of imagining.

I don’t need to prove anything to you. Why would I care enough to make this thread in the first place if I wasn’t an artist? The comments in the main thread made me mad because I know how being an artist sucks in many ways and there’s only so much negativity I can take. I don’t care if you believe me or not. I’m not invalidating your experience as an artist, so I’m not sure why you’re trying so hard to invalidate mine. I’m not “flexing”, I’m just tired of people talking out of their butt.

I didn’t say that. I said that it gave them something to work on during downtime. It doesn’t matter what they do with it.

One of my friends literally quit art because of it. I don’t know why you think professional artists are immune to criticism.

I’m not, but like I said, I won’t lose sleep if you don’t believe me. You say you’re an artist, I believe you. Not sure why you’re being so arrogant.

Doesn’t change the point of my post, which is that artists worked on that set, only to be met with 90% dislikes on youtube and comments like “gross”, “looks like garbage”, “disgusting”, “ugliest set ever”, etc.

People can voice their opinion about the store as a whole without taking a dump on every new thing that’s released for it.

Oh get out of here with this.

You don’t get to hide behind a “b-b-b-but the artists!” excuse for microtransactions in a game that charges full price for its expansions and charges a monthly fee ON TOP OF THAT as well as charge the playerbase for any other services such as name changes or server transfers. The LEAST Blizz could do is leave mounts and mogs off the cash shop and reserve those for in game rewards like they should be and have been since the game launched. Keep the pets and the toys on there if you want.

So no. The playerbase has every right to be upset and “negative” about a fancy new Transmog set being added to the game shop after an entire expansion with no Tier sets. And guess what? They are going to be “negative” about it again when the next cool mount (or now Transmog set I guess) is added to the store.

You really want the negativity to stop? Then join the rest of us in wanting the Cash Shop either removed or at the very least scaled down. Otherwise we are going to get this everytime something new is added. As we should. People SHOULD be mad about this crap.

I mean, I’d be all for that.

I’m not asking her for credits, I believe her, because there’s no point in lying about it. The only reason I mentioned it in the OP was for context.

I mean, yeah. If you’re well-known enough, people will be willing to pay more because they can say they got this piece done by a BIG artist. Same logic with well-known actors who get paid more for the same roles.

Obviously. That said, you’re making claims of experience and using those claims as a reason to argue with people who don’t agree with you. You talk about how I’m trying to “invalidate” your experiences (see below) while at the same time trying invalidate other people’s responses by example of those experiences. At that point it’s time to show your work honey.

I honestly don’t know your motivations. It seems like it’s to argue nonsense.

You clearly care quite a bit.

You literally said it:

Then they are literally not a professional artist.

Because we have to be. Because no matter how many game forum threads are posted telling people they can’t share their opinions, people are going to share their opinions. We literally have to learn how to filter the worst of it out and try to learn from the rest of it.

I’ve heard it all, and I’ve tried to learn from it all. Even the ones that just say my work is “trash.” But on no planet do I think I have the right to ask people not to say what they want to say - ESPECIALLY when it comes to work that I’ve been paid to do, at someone else’s direction, that I personally do not own.

Please don’t pretend your posts in this thread aren’t exactly the same just because you’re changing your tune now.

I don’t blame the artists for anything. I’m sure they were told what to make, and they made it.

It actually looks good for what it is. It just doesn’t appeal to some. They probably made it with the LGBT community in mind.

No, you said “don’t berate us”. I said you as in plural you because you included yourself by saying us.

Annnnd I’m out. This thread started out petty, I don’t know why I expected it to end differently.

That’s such a bad take. I think it’s really cute and a lot of other people do as well. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s not appealing. It’s not in any way “garbage” and no, artists should NOT “feel bad” for working on something that a lot of people like. You’re just rude.
