Imagine being an artist

How am I the petty one? They’re arguing with me over grammar.

Sweety it takes two to tango. ( :face_vomiting: I can’t believe I just said that :grimacing:)

“lol, these kids think we do the [music, design, encounters, writing, programming, financing, marketing, etc]”

Or maybe people could stop being rude for no reason? It has nothing to do with being a crybaby. Public criticism is frowned upon if the artist didn’t specifically ask for it. Obviously, I’m talking about art sites here and not the forums where people are not commenting to the artist directly.

You’re entitled to your opinion.

Mine is that it’s absolute garbage they couldn’t sell without enticing you with 6-months of subscription on top of it. You might not like my opinion, but it is every bit as valid as yours is, and I think it looks like crap and the WoW artists can and have done better.

I hold them to a higher standard than you do, apparently.

I really don’t. You’re the one who keeps responding to me and asking for credits when we both know I wouldn’t post that on here.

Now you just sound like that person who said that artists who work for companies aren’t artists. Bit hypocritical.

But see, there’s a difference between criticism, and 90% vile garbage every. single. time. something new comes out on the store. It’s exhausting. Filtering the worst of it in this case is literally 90% of comments.

…Where did that comment come from?

i don’t think they are complaining about the appearance, even asmongold didn’t. Asmongold praised the well designed set saying it had as much effort as good tier gear. Just like asmongold though everyones pissed not because the design or effort sucked but because the higher ups put a price tag on it instead of letting it be obtained in game somehow. I got no issues either or though.

If your “friend” quit art, they can’t make money off of art. That’s what being a professional in anything means. A professional artist is an artist as their profession. This isn’t a hard concept to understand. It’s not the same as an artist who just does art.

It’s not even your art. You should step away from the forums and create. Whatever this thread is about, is not about people’s opinion of the item set at this point.

Fairy wings come out right after they announce there will be LGBT characters in game? It doesn’t seem like a coincidence. It wasn’t meant as a dig at LGBT. I’m glad they’re doing something to at least try to help with tolerance.

While I don’t think it was intended that way, I am absolutely using it that way. My characters look like a pride float now and I’m ecstatic about it. I will be the person in ten years still wearing this set.

They were a professional artist and kinda just dropped everything because the criticism made them feel like they weren’t good enough, even though they’re one of the best artists out there imo, and a lot of people told them as much, but it still got to them. Maybe they’ll pick it back up at some point, who knows? I hope so. My point is that pros are still people and not everyone has thick skin, no matter how good they are.

Well they should have designed it better. I’m sorry but none of the facts presented in defense of the artists excuse the fact that it looks stupid.

Then they should probably get some thicker skin. While not an artist I am a printer, which means I deal with tons of artists on a daily basis. We both get criticism and frankly it comes with the jobs. If I had a dollar for every time an artist blamed me for something that was in their own artwork I’d be retired by now.

I don’t disagree but it’s easier said than done.

Would annyone be this mad If the game was f2p? I mean, If blizz is using scummy f2p monetization better go all the way to it

You have a very interesting wrong way of thinking.

This.

Here’s the thing folks, a lot of these store items and extra customization pieces? They’re made while the art teams are between projects. Employees for companies have to keep working to justify the money that gets spent on employing them, so when they’re not working on a project because it’s wrapped up, they work on these little side projects.

But that side project still costs the company money to develop, so they have two ways they can go about handling it:

  1. They eat the cost and give it away for free.
  2. They charge a little bit of money for it to attempt to recoup the cost.

Blizzard is engaging in a mix of both for these options. Sure, pay for a 6-month sub right now and you’ll get it for free, but if you already have a 6-month sub you also get it for free, meaning you haven’t paid a cent for it. But for those who’d rather not lock themselves in for 6 months, they have the option of paying for it separately.

You really think they put this up on the store so they could pay the artists more? Hahaha oh my God, this forum never ceases to amaze me. How about they show the artists the respect they deserve and actually put these cool things into the game. Imagine getting this set, or any of the store pets and mounts, as a reward for completing an achievement, or a long quest chain, or literally anything else other than entering your card details. We already buy the game and pay a sub, that should be enough but of course the smoothest of brains will buy stuff like this without seeing a problem so get ready for more in the future!

Artists for video game companies get paid a salary, so this isn’t about paying them more. It’s about recouping the money spent on making the item.

It’s already in the game though… You just have to pay to access it.

You pay for access to the service. That’s what you pay for. And part of that service is a ton of content that you can unlock without paying a cent extra. You are not entitled to everything just because you pay for access to the service.
