I’m 34 and think all the words are internet stupidity trying to meme words like krunk and radical and that jargen just this eras popular oddities
you didnt outgrow the game. you outgrew some of the kids who play the game. I am a bit older, and feel the same. trade is awful, but serves a purpose.
I’m 100 years old and even I know what bussy means.
I am only in my late 20s and I feel that as well, people make up so many words these days, the one thing I don’t get is “Poggers” the most, I had to look it up for the longest time because it was suddenly surging as of this year. I found it to be the most asinine word that exists because it was around much longer and realizing where it came from, so poggers is a meme than a actual word but poggers now is just another example of expressing excitement without the need to type or say in the same fashion, in otherwords, being lazy. Almost as weird as the word “Bae” became a official word because some person got so lazy at typing.
I just hate that with every expansion, there’s new acronyms being made, which often I can figure out. like DoS or SoA because we can easily associate it in Shadowlands but anything outside of that, its complete gibberish, its why I type the full words instead of that because its good for me to type and type fast and accurately too and reduces confusion. Imagine being those people who only speak through acronyms…
Even worst when it comes to the Moon Guard context.
These things are symptoms of imbalances.
I’m not sure I agree. I’m a gen x who spends the majority of my waking hours on a computer. I’m subbed to over 300 youtube channels and usually have something playing in the background, I frequent a couple dozen different internet forums and discord channels. And I’ve had to look many many things up over the last several years.
Part of this is because these phrases are used in a way that you can’t decipher because they lack context. The vocabulary changes radically from year to year. And it seems that most of the new language comes from a couple of very niche sources, primarily streamers (whom I don’t follow,) and the liberal college kids.
Over all it doesn’t bother me much as every group has its own vocabulary like the militaries ASVAB, blue falcon, jacked, fart sack, jody, dependa, dependapotamus etc
Most of it is fine and I can ignore. The ones that really mess with me are when someone says something but they are using a new definition that means the opposite of what the original word defined.
At this point I’m to lazy to bother looking up new words. I let the kids have their own language and ask for clarification when needed.
Yeet the NEETs!
I’d hate to be one of your neighbors on the same cable loop during prime time trying to play WoW. lol
I’m a night shifter so I’m usually asleep during prime time hours. That and despite living in a very small country town we have amazing internet out here.
I am 47 and I got into the habit of looking up the meanings of any words I needed to know online.
For slang words I think Urban dictionary is the website to use unless there is a better one I am not familiar with.
It the new “leet speak”. I blame Twitch viewers who don’t get much oxygen.
Made me laugh way too hard.
I remember having to sift through the pages of a huge two volume tomb for definitions when I was younger. It was on a book shelf in the house I grew up in. I have no idea how old the thing was, and it never sat on the shelf long enough to collect any dust.
Now I live in that house with my husband, and things got so shuffled around, I have no idea where the two volumes even are anymore. Each one was maybe 3 inches thick and it counted as one dictionary. It included a section in the back of the second volume with several parts. These contained things like famous Latin quotes and baby name meanings with origins listed. I forget what all else it had it has been so long.
My advice as someone in his 40’s is to just use the words however you think you should. For example my son uses the word “Bruh” in every stinking sentence. So I’ve begun using it in front of him whenever possible, whether its to talk to him, talk to his mom, talk to my 70 year old dad, or to refer to inanimate objects.
He is not amused, but I am.
UwU and OwO is just a cute face. The w is the mouth.
Poggers is twitch lingo for something awesome
I can’t tell you what one of those words is without the mods breathing down my neck
I’ll add: simp, int, spicy, crunchy, sadge (and many other suspected Twitch terms) to the list. Also many emoji’s.
Honestly, I’m not as old as you but I make no effort to learn fad terms that will be gone soon. And emoji’s seem to me to be a de-evolution of language, like we are going backwards to hieroglyphs.
63 here and without a clue as to most of the current lingo. Pretty much the same, though, when I was 20. Fad language never much interested me.
Eh I dig it. It’s neat how on tumblr someone could just post a picture of a vine and we’d all know what it was saying / referencing.
