I can’t speak for PvP, but I do wonder how much of a knock on effect the imbalance at the top has. Especially in M+ and even heroic. I’m willing to bet those scenes are better (albeit not by as great a margin) for horde (and alliance for oceanic).
The factions aren’t a problem, we get Alliance players joining us quite regularly. And we also get people who can’t make our times anymore who transfer to join an Alliance guild, instead.
Faction isn’t a barrier to the individual player. You go where the best home is; faction is not important.
This is the continual problem with people raising this on General Discussion: Most people on this forum don’t understand how raiding works…
you’re arguing a completely different point. the faction divide is core to the game and hasn’t changed since vanilla.
the bleeding off of the mythic raiding population to the horde side has been going on for over a decade.
Give the alliance high elves, give them super busted racials, wait a few years for the problem to flip the faction unbalance, wait for it to be to late to fix, balance the racials, claim it to be a player driven problem.
The severity of each of these buffs should scale with the severity of the imbalance. On a perfectly balanced server there is no buff, for close to balanced the effect is small. For wildly imbalanced servers the effect should be severe.
I don’t think it’s a magic band-aid. But unless blizzard is ok with allowing mythic raiding alliance side to continue to degrade as players/guilds go where more opportunities are, what other options are there?
As I said, I’m not a game designer or a social engineer, so maybe they’ll come up with something else.
Proudmoore is a great server! I’m not on it anymore, just this bank/forum toon. I’ve moved to Tichondrius (horde).
There is no “individual player” in this game. WoW is an MMO, it is exclusivey tuned around teamwork, and directly involves teamates, friends, and guilds.
If you really don’t think these problems exist, than you must not have friends.
Not an insult. Just the logical conclusion of your argument.
The Alliance had super busted racials (compared to Horde) in Warlords, and Horde was still the dominant Mythic raiding faction.
It isn’t about racials.
It is, however, about so many Alliance players being blind to this, and not understanding WHY Horde does so much better at end-game raiding even when Horde racials are garbage.
Yes, and that is a problem
Yes, and this problem could also be fixed by simply abandoning the faction divide in gameplay, and Allowing all PvE content to be cross faction, allowing guilds to have members of any race.
2 Birds. 1 Stone.
Delete factions. Make Shadowlands and subsequent content faction-agnostic, along with grouping and guilds. When you talk to Chromie to begin quests for previous content, you may specify which faction you want to be part of. If that would cause obvious problems, a disguise can be provided a la the Caverns of Time instances.
I’d rather not remove what’s been core to wow since it’s release by removing factions.
Instead I’d remove the last restrictions on realms. Essentially merging all the realms in a region into a normal and one rp server. There would obviously be sharding but would allow you to trade, access the same AH and be in the same guilds as everyone else.
This should give each faction a large enough pool of potential raiders to sustain a raiding community now that they’re condensed into one realm.
Blizzard said years ago that the only thing limiting them from having mega realms was the AH, and now they’ve remade the AH so it should be fine.
Also throw in free faction changes for the underrepresented faction if it goes below a certain %.
No more faction war.
first resurrect Varian and give Anduin a Luke Skywalker style morality conflict which will culminate in a discipline priest Anduin as leader of the Alliance with a slightly morally grey edgier outlook, THEN reappoint Thrall as warchief advised by a resurrected Garrosh. Next High elves for Alliance and San’layn for Horde. Boom done, what else do you ask of The Don?
I mean if you don’t think cool races will entice players to Alliance, and let’s add good racials since raiding is apparently the only thing that matters, then nothing will so just forget it and go Horde too.
I believe class favor is pretty close to being out the window. I hope they don’t do as you propose and throw out any other character flavor as well.
No they were never as what I proposed. That would be awesome. Sadly Blizzard can never choose a side of the fence and stick with it. So they usually just make everyone upset.
No pants monday, and make chili fries a patch theme for food prof
As I said, there isn’t a general population imbalance. There’s plenty of alliance. There’s a raiding population imbalance. Adding OP racials to the alliance races will just cause the imbalance to swap sides, which gets us no where.
