I completely ignore epics.
Trust me… The only way to really tell what the seasons participation was is via % of the population numbers. I can’t break down the numbers for you any better than I have. Legion rated was supremely underplayed, you know right when they drastically trashed PvP gearing.
How? No joke I had an 18 minute que on the weekend. Only did one thanks to it being so long.
Except the participation numbers are there like any other expansion.

You can determine participation if you did the math, .5%/.1% of arena population for bfa s1 is on what he linked guess that’s why he said it’d help.
That was partly because fresh characters got put into battlegrounds against other fresh characters (unless they were queueing with someone with higher honor level).
But, even after they got out of that bracket they were at a severe disadvantage against someone with a leveled artifact weapon.
You’re clearly not grasping the math

If you “blow someone up” it’s not because you’re amazing, it’s because their gear is even lower than yours. Even geared matches usually take a while. If you dominate someone it’s because they haven’t nolifed as hard as you have.
Just admit, BfA is more popular than you guys thought. It’s okay to be wrong once in a while.
That’s always what happens when you get a gear advantage in WoW, you get lazy… Resilience did this to us when we played with that as a stat, better gear just kinda does that; it make you sloppy.

Linking to arenamate is not a great way to show participation. They only show so much of the ladder, regardless of which season you’re linking to, because the official ladder only showed so many players. The reason the others are telling you to look at % title numbers is because of how they are calculated with regards to the entire ladder. You can get an accurate # of people playing rated by looking a the number of spots for r1/old glad and extrapolating with basic math that you can’t get by looking at arenamate which cuts off where the official ladder does.

I don’t need to. You said what I already knew. Already mentioned that arenamate only shows 18/1900+
Why can’t PvP be about skill rather than armor? You make it sound like a person that just puts time/gold in should always be on top. PvP should be about SKILL.
