Me too. I am sooo glad WoW isn’t FFXIV. FFXIV raiding and dungeons are horrible. Thank God WoW has the best raiding and dungeons.
Thank God I don’t have to suffer through mobile game and F2P game tactics in my paid MMO on FFXIV. Thank God I can actually play through the story and it’s not time gated or terribly written.
I’m so glad for FFXIV.
FF14 is a great game, better than WoW in several areas, but the raiding is a little lacking. I do sort of like the wall to wall dungeon pulls though. If you need to do dungeons hundreds of times, at least make them fast.
FF14 isnt WoW. WoW isnt FF14. Both games have their strengths and weaknesses, and competition is good for the games.
The big problem with FF14 or at least in the “post-game” scenario quests, is the number of cutscenes. I’m catching back up through the end of Stormblood and it’s talk to this guy, teleport here and talk to this guy, teleport here and talk to this guy…5 minute cutscene. That goes on for 5 straight quests and then maybe a scenario or a dungeon.
Not Neverwinter the MMO. I meant the one made in the early 2000’s by Bioware. Hence saying something that old…
Gameplay in FF14 (BS is short for “Boredom Scene” and represents the sequence of a lengthy waiting screen, a very lengthy cutscene and another lengthy waiting screen):
- BS, talk to NPC
- BS, port to another zone
- BS, talk
- BS, port
- Repeat BS/talk/BS/port sequence 6 more times
- BS, collect 3 small items from the street
- BS, talk
- BS, port
- BS, launch instance: solo scenario, dungeon or Primal (boss who appears from nowhere, threatens world for ten minutes and disappears)
*** Entering wipe protocol ***
- BS
- Dodge coloured area x 9
- Die (due to server not registering that you had dodged)
- Rez
- Dodge x 10
- Global cooldown expires, at last
- Hit boss once
- Dodge x 14
- Die
- Wipe
- BS
*** Exiting wipe protocol ***
- Wipe protocol x 6
- Win protocol
- BS x 6
- Wake up
- Delete game (me and a couple others) or go to WoW forum and notify us that WoW is dead and FF14 is the best thing ever (everyone else)
Why is it okay for FF14 to have a terrible introduction where players justify it with: “tolerate it, because it gets better”?
How is that different from WoW’s issues with systems and their impact on alts?
PvP was “balanced” in 9.0? When hpallies basically had infinite mana and the convokelol memes started?
Ashes of Creation, when/if they release it at last, will bomb hard.
Hint: toolkit dedicated to grief other players (caravans).
P.S.
As I guess that not everybody knows, caravans are the only way to transfer goods between cities, and are an absolutely non-optional core feature. Also, caravans are subjected to non-consensual PvP (i.e. griefing, of course).
I watched a couple dev interviews, bunch of elitists. They will deserve what will happen.
You gave two different definitions for “endgame” in a biased way. Good job.
Side note, there’s nothing more frustrating than getting a fancy new spell just to be forced not to use it due to scaling. That’s some RPG mechanic, not MMO.
Agree, of course, but not even necessarily a RPG mechanic.
This is fair.
It’s more of a “lazy design” – instead of trying to balance around it, you just say “nope, not gonna try”
Ah, just for the chronicle: I’d love a really good new MMORPG.
In fact, we had it for a couple years: RIFT. It was really WoW level, at first.
Then the company totally dropped the ball.
I never left RIFT, game left me.
What was fantastic about RIFT was that it was an almost perfect WoW simulator, but with several unique features added.
And I could tank as a Rogue, and did!
Once you pass that part of the story, you never have to do it again.
Terrible systems are with you every step of the way, every day you play. Until the next expansion when you get a new system to deal with.
But why should I accept it? My point is FF14 gets a pass from its community. Why should I accept mediocrity at any time?
This isn’t to say WoW is better/worse. If FF14 had terrible systems, would it get afforded a pass by the community?
I don’t frequent the FF14 forums, but I would think they’d prefer the tranmsog system from WoW. FF14 lets you express yourself in many ways, but they don’t let you have a full collection of appearances with Glamor? Isn’t FF14’s in-game shop vast compared to WoW’s in-game shop? MTX are a thing, sure, but there’s so many things listed.
Also, what’s the deal with NFTs coming to FF14? If Blizzard did anything half as dumb as bringing NFTs to WoW, then they’d be seeing a ton of outrage.
Again, it’s not that FF14 is better or worse, it’s just that FF14 is afforded so much tolerance. It’s like if Square Enix and Blizzard are your children, and you yell at Blizzard for drawing on the walls and exclaim they are a horrible child, but if Square Enix did that, you’d rip the wall paper off and put it on the fridge while telling them “that’s my little angel.”
Cyous, did you see my “gameplay” post some posts above? It should get at least a grin from you. Shameless, I know.
I think you made an edit and I didn’t catch it. Can you link so I dont miss it?
Oh no… which post number? lol
As far as I understand it this was part of the original game until YoshiP took control over it.
