I'm done with WoW. Any recommendations for a good palette cleanser?

You probably already played it if not baldur’s gate 3 is awesome game and now it has mods.I have heard good things about enshrouded but it is early access game.
Dragons dogma dark arisen. Mass effect legendary edition. Elex, divinity original sin 2,titanfall 2,betrayer,red dead redemption 2, witcher 1,2,3, monster hunter world and rise wilds coming soon, far cry primal, assassins creed black flag, max payne 3,kingdoms of amalur reckoning, outward ,if you have someone to play with solo can be to difficult for beginer… and so on

“Definitive endpoint” is different that “definitive endgame”.
I’m looking for a clear point where the game is DONE and it’s a satisfying experience.

Unfortunately, if my memory holds, Skyrim is in that weird place where there’s quite a bit and you just eventually run out of things to do… and before we leap to the obvious:

Definitely a case of “been there, done that” when it comes to Skyrim in particular. Made a handful of mods myself back in the day… with one in becoming somewhat infamous for being a comically unbalanced and difficult dungeon.

I’m not just fine with single-player, but would actually prefer it. The door is open to multiplayer as a suggestion just in case there’s something that might catch my interest.

I haven’t really watched TV (beyond the news and the occasional sporting event) in… probably 15+ years at this point. I’m more likely to grab a full season on DVD and watch that instead.

May as well ask (even if I’m wary about other MMOs for being too similar at the moment), how much of the story does the “free” version of the game cover?

Story-driven RPGs are usually my genre of choice, but I was trying to not steer the discussion towards those and see what other options were brought up.

As for Dragon Age in particular, I’m probably more likely to replace either Origins or Inquisition. I’ve looked at Veilguard, and I get the impression that it has made some significant missteps.

This is an odd one for me, but I seem to struggle to get a good re-run of the trilogy off the ground (which was rather recent, within the last week or so)… often over some indecisiveness over character builds. I also don’t have the bonuses unlocked on the LE, which probably isn’t helping.

BG3 runs into similar issues, getting stuck in an early section because I start pondering various “What if” ideas and character builds… and in retrospect, if half of them didn’t involve Oathbreaker (making respeccing quite expensive), I probably would have fewer hiccups.

And thanks again to everyone for the suggestions, feel free to keep them coming!

Go download and install Angband.

Yakuza games are on sale on Steam.

You’re welcome.

See you soon.

I’ve heard plenty about that one in particular… but I must ask this question:

What the hell did I just watch?!!

… because I am now quite intrigued.

Yakuza.

… sorry but there’s no other way to describe the game Yakuza as anything other than “it is Yakuza.” The closest thing you can get to it would be comparing Yakuza to that of the earlier games of the Saints Row series.

Because it is a deeply serious-nonserious/nonserious-serious game. There’s no other way to describe it beyond that.

All of the Yakuza games have pretty serious stories, but at the same time, the side content is so varied and insane that the games are pure fun. Some of the stuff goes completely off the rails lol.

I don’t know what kind of games you like, but you could play the remastered Spyro I,II and III.

You could go try Stray (that’s only about 2 hours of gameplay, 3 if you stretch it out).

There’s Master of Orion and Stellaris.

You could play Starcraft and Starcraft II for the story.

You could try Starcontrol: Origins for the campaign.

Saints Row wishes it was as insane as a Yakuza game.

OK, I mistyped. I must admit, I dont really understand what a definitive end point is or what the diff is between a point and an end of the game, actively speaking.

Since I dont really understand what you are after (probably not you, just me not getting it) I’ll leave it up to others to offer ideas. Hope you find some fun. :sunglasses:

RPGs like Balders Gate - similar genre, leveling up etc. But they end.

That’s way more than you need. Feel free to toss a brother 100k <3

It’s arguably semantics, but the example mentioned (Skyrim) was a bit… nebulous.

My conception of “endgame” usually means the end content loop, which is the standard form endless & live service games turn into. WoW’s endgame being doing their “pillars” on a weekly basis and filling the great vault being an easy example.

I was using “endpoint” to distance the definition from that, but “end of the game” is pretty close. Especially if it coincides with the “end of the (main) story”. When it comes to Skyrim in particular, it’s a fuzzy line as you have completing all the main storylines other notable sidequests as a plausible objective… but it also has some randomly generated objectives thrown at the player, not to mention an endless supply of new ideas via the modding scene.

path of Exiles 2 comes out in like 2 weeks, its free as well and really really good.
I also enjoy Planet Crafter, its one of those survival type games but you are also terraforming the planet.

Ever tried any of the Pokemon games? Sure, they’re age-friendly, but if you have a Nintendo Switch I can recommend them.

My favorite Pokemon game on the Switch is Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Many people call it the best Pokemon game ever produced. Think Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild if it was a Pokemon game. It also has a definite end point.

You’d be naive to assume we are capable of skim reading at the level of a 2nd grader. We simply want attention and will say anything at this point. But other than that, I can’t help you sadly. Good luck.

When I take a break from WoW, and I love the game, but I do need a break occasionally. I play Sim City, or I do Big Fish Hidden (I call them Hunt and Peck) Object games. They calm me and they are different. I take a week, I have even taken a month and come back refreshed.

Play through GW2 as a single player story game.

It utterly fails as an MMORPG, but I really enjoyed leveling up and playing through the story. Since you’re not looking for an endless game, I think it’d be fine to just give this a once-through and not try to force longevity out of it like you would WoW.

Heart of Thorns was my favorite expansion story by far. Highly recommend playing through it as a Sylvari (the plant people) as there are some special interactions with the big bad throughout the campaign due to the nature of what it is.

Heart of Fire was less good IMO but still solid.

Don’t know anything about the most recent expansion but I’ll go back and poke at it one day.

Base Game is honestly really good too. First half is personal story with choices and such, second half is typical “endgame” campaign sort of stuff. Final Boss is more cinematic than combat, which is one of the reason I liked Heart of Thorns so much - it nails both sides of that coin a lot better.

Dan Da Dan on Netflix is excellent. Watch out for episode 7 though . :sob::sob::sob::sob::sob:

Like others have suggested - just take a break . After a while you don’t even miss WoW .

I’m in the same boat as you.
I would recommend available on both PS5 and Steam.

  • Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition or Remastered

Rich Story, Open World Exploration, enjoyable play from start to end game.
-Tip: Go through the intro story, then head to top of the map [Quests and Story provide better Weapons] this makes the rest of the game more enjoyable.

  • Marvel’s Spider-man & DLC

Rich Story, Open World Exploration. If you enjoy this Spider-man game, then follow it up with Marvel’s Spider-man 2.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2
  • God of War / God of War: Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us: Part 1

I’m currently slowly playing through the story of Ghost of Tsushima.
