The reason is money. It always boils down to money. The game has been in decline for years because of 2 terrible expansions. Dragonflight sales have likely underperformed, as the recent free trial/sales/discounts have indicated.
I wouldnt count on dedicated class devs anytime soon.
It is their game, and essentially we are lab rats. They could care less about us. If one class/spec is played too much they will nerf it into the ground to force players to not play the class. Similar to how they monitor what players are actually doing. If they see players are ignoring new content and playing older content they will in some way make that older content less attractive, forcing players to play they way they want them to.
I could go all day about how we are just lab rats but, I don’t have the time.
Doesn’t really relate to what I said. You have the capability to say what you want, but don’t conflate that with the RIGHT to say what you want. Snoz got it correctly, there’s a difference.
What exactly isn’t valued? Please, specifically delineate for me exactly what is or is not valued, and articulate knowledge you have of how the company’s development team for WoW works to support your claims.
They have 700 developers on dragonflight and shadowlands had only 400 which is a net gain of 300 developers were hired or brought or merged to work on World of Warcraft.
Right, I’m a troll because I use the character I have a forum history on since it’s the character I’ve generally used on the forum. You couldn’t possibly be calling me a troll because I disagree with you about something, right?
Could you articulate to me how you know there aren’t dedicated developers or even groups of developers per class? Because the idea of a single developer working on every spec of an entire class by themselves is honestly absurd. It shows you have no clue what the hell you’re talking about.
Talking about dedicated class developers where was this interview was in preaches or somewhere else if it was on preach I didn’t heard it because I have watched it.
I have no reason to disbelieve this statistic, although it would likely be a good idea to post sources for that.
That being said, it still doesnt change the fact that classes dont have dedicated developers, and if the company made more money, they likely would have dedicated class developers.
The real point of discussion is does that point to a circular death spiral, as painfully slow as it might be. I havent really formed an opinion on it yet, but if I were forced to, Id likely lean to “yes” because of the negative impact class balance and playstyle has had thus far. They did a lot of things right for Dragonflight…class balance was a complete failure, when it should have been the crown jewel.
