I was under the impression if you don’t use it, you lose it
holy god this is cringe, all of that for it to still hold value when it comes to LFD. LOL
Cross server RDF would eliminate most of the need to congregate on megaservers aside from raiding.
Yeah. You know, the thing that the majority of players focus on these days?
This is the whole point. Cross-Realm LFD is a crutch to entertain people on a dying server, before it fully dies. It’s not a solution to small population servers, and it doesn’t address the world around the player, the economy of the server, or the raiding scene.
Connected Realms or GTFO.
If you don’t use it, you lose it.
Off topic a little and I won’t be re-scrolling through the 900-reply thread where you posted it to try to quote it better, but just want to say I like the take you posted in that thread about the spirit of “some changes” and “no changes.” That there’s a difference between improving the game while still staying faithful as much as possible to the “feel” of og vanilla/TBC/Wotlkc (“some changes”) and blindly staying faithful to everything no matter what (“no changes”). I feel that vanilla and TBC did a good enough job of recreating the classic feel, or I wouldn’t still be here.
Would like to see more nuance like that in these forums. Not to be shouted down and told my take is “selfish”, “asinine”, “silly” just because I have reservations about LFD. I’m not even vehemently anti-LFD, but some features (I.e. extra rewards for queuing) definitely give me pause.
The fact that the LFG channel is filled with chatter unrelated to looking for a group is something that’s caused by players, not Blizzard or how the game was designed.
I don’t like arena. Do I go around demanding it be removed from the game? No, I just don’t queue for it. LFD is no different.
LFD was the beginning of the end of WoW.
“Doing arena” is not the same as “Using LFD or not” because the activity is “Doing Dungeons”.
You can’t choose to join an Arena by any other method than the queue, so there’s no other option but to do it that way. Dungeon Finder is not the only way to run a Dungeon, however, over time it will become that as the people wanting the older method will get fewer and fewer as people choose expediency over the community, just like it did back in Wrath the first time.
So yes, if you want to run a dungeon, eventually the only realistic way will be via the queue.
Your comparison is absurd but it does highlight how little you actually care about the situation.
I will go let FF14 know they need to remove RDF right away or their game will fail.
What a hot take.
I dont have to play WoW either but I am. Its a group based game so in order to get groups I have to play by everyone else’ rules. If everyone is pushing a button in the UI I must either conform or be cast out.
Being cast out would be pretty freakin ironic since one of the big “pro’s” of RDF is all those tasty groups its going to get for people its literally impossible for - yknow, because we’re really worried about someone being left out.
If LFD is in:
Realms that need it have it. Realms that do not need it are fine.
If LFD is not in:
Realms that need it don’t have it. Realms that do not need it are still fine.
See a problem here yet? This is a decision advocated by mega realm players that can already get groups. They don’t need LFD and couldn’t care less about the rest of us. Getting a group on a <1.5k faction is a hell of lot harder than a 20k faction. These realms are not the same and cannot logically be treated the same. If the fat realm doesn’t want LFD, that’s fine, turn theirs off. But why should my realm have to suffer for it? They either need to target which realms disable LFD, or have it on all realms.
Ideally, we wouldn’t need LFD and I’d be against it as well. But everyone, that is players AND Blizzard, screwed up the realm populations and neither show any intent to fix it. This means LFD has become the last hope for dying factions. If it doesn’t come with wrath, you can bet many more factions are going to the graveyard as people pay the ransoms to leave or just unsub.
“Yes but the solution is Connected Realms, not cross-realm dungeon spam.”
-This is true, and why I’ve been saying for a WHILE now that realms need to be connected. I’ve also said numerous times in just the last week that we either need connected realms or LFD, one or the other. LFD isn’t an ideal solution by any means, but it IS a last resort because nothing else is being done for realm populations. Actually decided to make a thread about it now.
Like Retail WoW, FF14 is not a real MMORPG. We’re still kinda playing one atm.
Yes but the solution is Connected Realms, not cross-realm dungeon spam.
IF you’ve made a bunch of friends in classic and TBC, you wouldn’t really need it anyway and most likely would barely use it. You were making lasting friendships, right? Those expansions did not have RDF or dual spec,s o clearly you should have made long last friendships by now
a) Yes, I have.
b) However, people come and go and if you stop making new friends, and your old friends get bored with the game or move on, those groups you’ve made start to run dry.
Stop being facetious.
maybe you’d still have friends if the game was a little more accommodating to their schedules
If you think this is why people need to keep making friends throughout their life… you probably really need LFD.
Not a good reason to re-add it.
However, a good reason to NOT add it, is it is the thing that is most cited to be the “fall of WoW into Retail”.
If you are a person that doesn’t like the path that Retail is currently on now, you shouldn’t be advocating for one of the main things that helped it get there.
