I look at it like this:
Anyone saying DM by itself, I assume they mean Deadmines.
Using DM:E/DM:N/DM:W I assume it means Dire Maul. Because with Dire Maul you ALWAYS gotta specify what wing(s) you’re running.

I will always call it DM = Deadmines. You will never say DM for Dire Maul without a modifier (e.g. DM E, DM W, DM N, DM Tribute). So if anybody of you can’t understand this logic, I don’t know what will.
It’s RFC - Really F*n Confuses
Really? What’s the dungeon that’s dropping in phase 2? The one that has loot better than MC? I say it’s “DM”.
I now realize why people have that weird tick of actually spelling out Dire Maul…they think DM = Deadmines For me it’s the other way around, DM = Dire Maul, Deadmines = Deadmines.
This happens on Benediction too
You really do not know what you’re talking about Stavia and you are clearly trolling. Deadmines was never VC in vanilla. Everyone that is stating this is trolling pure and simple and needs to grow up quite a lot.
I cannot include links in my post, but is really not all that hard to find a forum page on the Internet Archive from Vanilla days referring to VC. The posters saying that this was a common name for Deadmines really aren’t trolling. Maybe it wasn’t used on your server, but it was on mine.
I like you.
In-game the zone is titled “The Deadmines,” not “Deadmines.” As long as we’re being wrong, I mean. You know, because The Deadmines is in fact properly referred to as “VC.”
you’re right, it wasn’t. I didn’t play vanilla at all. I’m just imagining things. lol
Hey failtrees, in beta the quest at the end of the Delfias Brotherhood line that sends you into Deadmines was called Van Cleef. Most people didn’t know the dungeon was called Deadmines… Deadmines was just the purple area with the undead. I may be wrong, but I seem to recall the mines and instance were just assumed to be part of Westfall.
Here’s my reason for why VC is appropriate.
I, like many others came from EverQuest into WoW. In EverQuest instead of instances or dungeons, we had a world broken up into large chunks called “zones”. These zones also encompassed castles, caves, ect, (i.e. dungeons).
So, when we got a group together and went to a zone to do quests or kill bosses, you zone into the area and yell to everyone in it “Camp check!” and the response would be something like “Emp”, “King”, “Summoner”, and “Naggy”. We did this because you couldn’t have the whole zone. So, you called which boss your party was after.
This carried over into WoW and thus, those of us who came from EQ called the instance by it’s final boss. This was prevalent for most instances in the early days but VC was the only one that stuck for an extended period of time.
While I agree, it’s outdated for the current format of instancing. It is not incorrect to call it by that. And, if your argument is purely to provoke others into heated argument, I hope you find more useful outlets for your energy soon.
Cheers!
You have it exactly backwards. I played on Deathwing Alliance, one of the 6 original PVP servers. Was logged in on day 1, and part of the first MC pug to down bosses. Never saw Deadmines advertised as “DM” until Classic. It’s not a big deal, but it’s a tell for whether someone is Vanilla or Classic.
This. If you call it VC or DM, you know what is being talked about. Why bother with the post here? Seems to be a simple exercise in attempting to force your opinions on the general populace.
Just have fun.
You’re taking this thread far too seriously. This is a “pineapple on pizza: good or bad?” thread.
Enjoy the silly debate but don’t take it to heart.
I haven’t seen anyone call it VC on my server, where do you find these strange people?
I’ve become partial to Cookie’s Party Boat lately
If I say “VC” you know exactly what I’m talking about.
