Pay attention. There were more trolls at one time than there were ignore slots, and if turning off trade is the only other option, then the game does NOT have the tools to deal with the situation.

If you think that X number of ignore slots was enoug, you did not go through what I did, and you are NOT prepared for what you think you’re going to deal with.

LOL.
This issue has brought our community together. Wow.

The irony is it sounds like you can’t take differing opinions…

Funny how all the people who are just interested in making sure people aren’t falsely reported and totally not trying to enable racists, etc post statistics widely circulated by Stormfront, the most notorious white supremacist website on the internet and like the post. Hmmmmm… I wonder if there’s a connection of some kind…:thinking::thinking:

So I feel like the intent of the automatic action off of multiple reports is sound. If someone is all caps spamming the n-word in barrens chat (a specific example I remember from ~2006) this system can get that shut down immediately. You’re going to have a hard time convincing me this is a problem. The problem comes with the potential for abuse. Getting your guild to silence someone posting the same enchant in trade as you, silence a rival guilds leader as they’re heading to a world boss, mass reporting your devilsaur competition, etc. And maybe all those potential abuses make this system not worth it, but I’m surprised to see people attacking the idea on its intended merits.

He used those stats to prove a point, that people are more likely to report based on feelings rather then whether or not someone legitimately needs to be reported.

In today’s society I could totally see myself getting reported for something that isn’t even offensive, just someone getting triggered.

Does the potential damage to player experience from the abuse potential outweigh the gain of an automated system vs the original GM review system? Therein lies the problem. If we lived in a world of sunshine and unicorns where people wouldn’t dream of abusing the system there would be no problem with it. However, this is the world wide web circa 2019 where more than a few people are happy to abuse every exploit they can find…

And we have people in this very forum who have already stated that they intend to report people based on their own personal views if others don’t agree with them.

Right, that’s what I’m saying. Maybe the potential risk for abuse and the impact of abuse outweighs the benefit, I honestly don’t know. But the arguments in this forum and others of “get thicker skin” “don’t let words hurt you” “my facts don’t care about your feelings” just reek of people who don’t want repercussions for being terrible. It’s okay to have systems to push back against bigots right?

The only point he proved was that he is willing to use statistics with no context that are circulated by literal neo-n*zis on the internet to demonize black people and call anyone who has an issue with that ‘triggered’. Doing this is objectively racist, since there is no reason to bring such things up in a wow conversation, ignoring the issues with that data, such as implicit biases in the American judicial system. The fact that this is the kind of thing that people use to support that argument shows that it’s a bad-faith argument espoused by people who are (at least mentally) teenagers.

Bad faith? You mean like the people who already admitted they would report people based on perception are using a system in bad faith?

Thanks for again making the point of the people who don’t trust automated systems with player input.

A) No. I’m talking about racists and people who knowingly or unknowingly enable racists, such as yourself.

B) I have not seen such an argument made.

C) Even if people do this, it takes a level of coordination that makes it very unlikely. Like fraction of a percent. The only people who are going to piss off enough people to get squelched are people who are a legitimate cancer in chat.

No. I just don’t let things like trade chat actually bother me.

No. Turning off a global chat is a valid option. Besides, if the integrity of an RP server is such a big deal, you should be fundamentally against global chat channels on principle.

I could say five words and guarantee you I would get enough reports to be silenced for time

I don’t agree with Democrats.

I know this because it happened before . And yet nothing I said their constitutes anything worth reporting

Outrage culture in action.

No. He explained his point earlier. Your programming is just conflicted.

Pretty ironic sentiment.

And apparently saying that men are more likely to commit suicide is somehow probably sexist

People just want the auto-squelch gone. You will still be able to report people and their accounts will still be actioned based on their offense. This is by no means an attempt to turn chats into a wild west.
