If auto-silence is in classic i wont be buying it

In the specific scenario I am talking about, which I am sure they replaced it with a squelch, these players would be mass reported by the multi-boxer and then banned for it as in had a suspension couldn’t log back in.

https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/3wx4qu/wow_player_banned_by_blizzard_after_killing_a/

I can’t believe I found the reddit post but it seems all the other links to the video of the guy is removed and the forum post about it on the wow forums has also been removed. I will see if I can find the video again.

EDIT:

Found an archive of the thread

https://archive.is/agv5y

And I am not sure this is the video, it may not be because I remember this guy being wiped A LOT and reporting people every single time he got wiped.

Wait…did you seriously claim to have intimate knowledge of every single post on the WoW forums for an extended period of time? Like, seriously? I can’t even keep a straight face while typing this

There is a reason it’s called General chat.

Soon as you start to filter by means of Activision or Bot or even the player in game society; you then open the can of worms that cannot be stopped.

Allow me to illustrate how you’re going to ruin the game with auto squelch…

I assure you some one will find Chuck Norris jokes offensive while in barrens chat. Heck I would suspect that numerous people would find it offensive and will report thus ending a very common tradition of leveling horde in the barrens.

You think this is a far fetched thing but I assure you it’s not even remotely out of the question.

But heres the rub. What you consider a tradition was 13 year olds making jokes, then everyone else repeating them ad nauseam. They do nothing to benefit the game. They break immersion, its flooding. I understand that you get your giggles off of it but if you get squelched for flooding chuck norris jokes you have zero ground to complain on.

They do nothing to benefit YOUR experience. Don’t assume what others enjoy or consider engaging.

Your whole post is basically you confusing what is just your opinion and preference with moral authority and judgement.

yah thats the problem with some of this, too many details get forgotten and some important details are never known, but being auto banned in this way without having something else attached seems very wrong and would have been a huge issue , so without knowing all the details of these type of examples you aren’t getting the whole story.

If this happened exactly like that to lily white people, then it was most likely a bug.

Sorry can you please explain how a chuck norris joke does anything to better or worsen your day in game? It doesnt. I am not assuming what others enjoy, I am saying it does nothing for actual game experience, chuck norris does not exist in the game so if some one feels like getting you squelched for dragging up a joke from 14 years ago over and over I dont feel they are in the wrong because they are in fact not wrong. Thats not opinion, it is simply matter of fact that you repeating a joke for the 900,000th time does as much as it did the first time. In other words, nothing to do with the game at all.

It wasn’t a bug this happened all the time and it is exactly how it worked. There was a mage that had to exact same thing happen to him when he wiped him by using that one legendary ring thing that made a massive aoe or something. I could dive deeper into this more than I would like to prove it but I have nothing to prove because this is how is happened.

Not sure if that’s how it still works but this is at least how it 100% worked in the recent past.

I don’t care if they were 13 or 35, it’s general chat and if you don’t want to see it turn off general chat.

It’s that simple.

If you see something that’s honestly horrible like actual racism then take some time out of your day, do the right thing and report it to a GM who can then take the correct action.

Laughter. It seems this concept might be a bit foreign to you, but some people really enjoy it.

Literally just did right there. How many more examples do you need pointed out for you?

He actually had his own WoW commercials. He at least “somewhat” relevant to the game.

Facts > feelings

Wrong.

Wrong. Nothing to do with your game.

I’m not sure what case you’re making here. First you say a Chuck Norris joke has no impact on you one way or the other, but then someone who makes a Chuck Norris joke should be squelched? If it does nothing to worsen your day, what do you care? If Chuck Norris triggers you, ignore and move on.

yah I would say its a bug or something else at play that triggered it, my point is with only one side of the story, you are missing out on a lot of details.

Or I can just report the person. It really doesnt make a bit of difference in the end. If they get squelched they get squelched.
Blizzard isnt going to rehire CS people, they are encouraging CS people to leave because they are trying to automate it. I know people dont like the fact that this is happening but it is `https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2018-12-21-over-100-blizzard-staff-accept-buyouts-as-publisher-looks-to-cut-costs

Dude… what bug in the world would cause someone to be instant banned every single time this guy reports someone. That’s not a bug you can’t be serious here. They even had a tweet sent out about it that said “If someone is banned over a mass report it will be overturned”. Insisting that it DOES outban and they will fix it if it is undeserving. If I link that tweet will you still call it a bug?

It does to that person.

Exactly. You don’t care about who you squelch or silence. You only care about you. YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU

Yes but most of the people that made those jokes are in their early thirties at this point. If your idea of going back to vanilla to make the same jokes over and over, good on you. I am sure you redoing the Leeroy Jenkins video will be super awesome. That joke didnt get played out at all.

Classic is entirely built around going back and doing something we already did.

If you sit there spamming chuck norris jokes and my report gets you muted, I feel I am doing it for the betterment of mankind. That jokes dead, Move on.

The bug would be in this case the one that caused it,lol.

It sounds like a bug because that is not normal behavior on how the system is supposed to work. It most definitely sounds like unintended behavior. Or even exploiting a flaw in a system.
