If auto-silence is in classic i wont be buying it

People are just petty enough to get all their friends or guildies to mass report someone. It happens all the time. Even if you stand in Stormwind and do absolutely nothing but report someone’s name that can get reported and, if enough people report at once, it will get flagged for a rename without a human having to do any of it. So it would be nice if people didn’t have the power to mass up and report someone to have immediate action taken on their account. What sucks even more is that when the automatic punishment is dealt it is not quality checked and the player is responsible for either riding it out or trying very vainly to have corrective action taken on that illegitimate report.

It is not perfect to either report or simply ignore or to do both, but ignore works very well. Just let them try and make a level 60 on a Classic server and start spouting crap, then get blacklisted and have to make a brand new toon and hope no one ever finds out it’s you or move to another server. I’d love to see people try and do that and see how maddening being ousted really is.

I dont think you know how the real world works buddy…

The police dont pull up after 20 reports of a break in going on, see a dude inside a house, the alarms going off and the glass door broken then go “oh hey hows it going buddy” they take the dude in and find out what happened and why he was there.

Yes “innocent till proven guilty” but that only fits with LONG TERM punishment. If police officers showed up to the crime scene and had to treat everyone like they were innocent, that would not be good.

If 20 people report someone for spamming, they were probebly spamming. so they are “arrested” and then a “police officer” steps in to see what happened. If they really did “commit a crime” then they jail them. If they didnt, they set them free, and then penalize or fine the people who made the false claims.

And then those people after 1 or two “mass reports” will have their priveleges taken away, easy as that, they will not be able to “mass report” for along time if ever.
there, your problem is solved buddy.

also flagging a name change is not automatic, never has been buddy, just that usually people say “its automatic” because they choose a name that they think fits the rules but doesn’t actually, for example on our server i could walk through stormwind and find atleast 100 people with names against the RP server name ToS.

also i do find it funny how you say both that the community would blacklist them, but at the same time dont mention how if a guild really did abuse the report function, they would most likely get blacklisted?

You talk about “blacklisting” in a good light… Odd, the community policing itself by blacklisting trouble players… I wonder if the Automated silence system… Is the community policing its own players…

they have been using this feature for over a year… so claiming that suddenly they are cutting staff now because of it…
tickets are still pretty quick, and having the automated system only keeps them faster, removing the automation makes the system FILLED with many more needed reviews and troubles.

  1. You can go ahead and not call me buddy to try and provoke or demean me.
  2. I have seen auto-renaming happen. This isn’t something you can tell me never happened because I have witnessed it happen.
  3. I didn’t put a positive or negative spin on anything. If you viewed my mention of how the community worked back then as positive good for you. If you don’t, that’s fine too.

I didn’t use emotional language but I did give a little bit of my opinion on it by saying something sucked or that it wasn’t perfect. Maybe you should spend less time trying to attack me and attack what I said.

  1. lol alright, i was sorta saying buddy cause we are from the same server but i can see you are one who cares little for community?

  2. did you see the computer log in and literally force his name? can you show me? can you show any evidence for this? cause nothing has ever pointed to it being automated. And blizz has stated many times over the years that all their punishment systems that had any automation in them, required a human to step in before the verdict was made. The automated silencing system was the first to change that, with it squelching people until a human could step in to see if it was deserved.

  3. " Just let them try and make a level 60 on a Classic server and start spouting crap, then get blacklisted and have to make a brand new toon and hope no one ever finds out it’s you or move to another server."

So again, you seem to be in support of blacklisting, which is the community policing itself, which the automated system is exactly that.

Also attacking? alright you are quite the defencive one. I did not know my text had knives in it, or could fling its own slurs your way.

I understand its not suppose to be for that, my concern is the ease of use if i catch someone on a bad day and he reports me falsely. I’m not too concerned with chat bans as I tend to just use the ignore feature. More worried about dem cryers who just wanna right click report gang style.

Don’t be a bigot or spew hateful stuff in Trade chat or other public chat channels then. That’s seriously the only time I’ve ever seen anyone squelched outside of ‘experiments’, when they obviously deserved it.

It’s mostly a non-issue on live with a few outlier cases. That’s how it’ll be here. Unless you think the Classic community will be 10x worse than retail.

I am betting neither were silenced but were rather squelched. Also both should have been.

Again, why should either of them been posted in a WoW in game public channel if not to troll for reactions?

I am seeing a lot of “i’m not touching you!” garbage getting smacked and the offender crying that their hand got smacked away.

Community policing itself by choosing who they play with and allowing players to enforce mob justice and silence others is not the same thing.

Why is a guilty until proven innocent system necessary? Why do you prefer it to the system you explained earlier where if its reported it will be decided if its punishment worthy?

I doubt ill ever be a victim of the system, however I see that is a system that CAN be abused. When the punishment is pretty close to a partial ban when it comes to vanilla, it is just too much power to put in the hands of the people. Especially when there are already systems in place for a player to regulate who they interact with (ignore list, profanity filters, ect).

Community policing never works because it turns into mob rule. See reality for a perfect example

Says the clown that doesn’t understand the difference between probable cause and automated moderation.

Why should both have been silenced?

It is not “mob rule”. It is a society being social and upholding certain civil standards. But hey, good luck with your anarchy.

For the very same reason walking into a restaurant and taking a :poop: in the middle of the dining area receives a response detrimental to the idiot doing it. Politics are brought up in blizzard public channels for one thing only: to get reactions. ie: trolling. If you cannot grasp this (even after Mat admitted they did it on a number of servers specifically to get reactions) then there is no point discussing it further with you.

ROFL

This is just ridiculous. It amazes me how quickly a society that was built on the principles of freedom of expression is willing to jump on the thought police bandwagon.

I’m sure you’ll be able to enjoy the game without filling public channels with your terrible opinions.

And you feel ignoring them isn’t good enough? You have to try to silence them and ruin the rest of their day because you don’t have the same humor?

You still do not get it (or are intentionally feigning ignorance to troll). I could give a rat’s :poop: what your views on politics or religion are. In game, in a public channel, in Blizzard’s house, you do not have that “freedom of expression”.

  1. can you show this happening all the time, we are literally on the exact same server, i have been here almost 2 years and NEVER seen a “wide spread epidemic” the ONLY time i have seen this happen is with spammers in trade, and asmongold when he got an entire raid group to report him and it got reverted 5 hours later.

  2. i dont think you know how the system works, obviously because you are simply stating things that are wrong.
“The automatic punishment is dealt and not quality checked, and the player is responsible for either riding it out, or trying very vainly to have-”

you literally do not know how the system works… maybe you should actually read how it works before crying about how its the worst thing ever?

player 1 is spamming trade chat
player 2 is just chilling and says hi
players 3-22 all report them for spamming
player 1 and 2 are then silenced.
Gm 3 hours later steps in and checks player 1’s silence, looking at the logs. He the decides yes, he spammed and gives him the 3 day silence punishment for first offence.

gm then moves onto player 2, checks their silence… looks at the logs, and decides it was a false flag, removing the silence, apologizing and “weakening” players 3-22’s power to report people in the future.

that is how it works, there, now that you are informed on how it works for once, you may actually see it in a brighter light… Nah i doubt it, speaking that your talking about it without even knowing how it works.

when people are auto silenced they do not get “full punishments” they just get silenced until a gm can check the validity, and then clear things up, only then are they given the “punishment” if it is rightfully so.

Its obviously up to Blizzard but the system is easily abused to silence people whom don’t deserve to be silenced and didn’t break any rules. Giving this power out to everyone will ruin the game. Vanilla is full of salty players as well as all online game.
