ROFL so let me get this straight…
So it IS free to transfer your character over and what Blizzard is charging you for is the copy to be left behind?
No wonder the OP stopped replying

moving to tbc or staying in classic forever is free. the $35 is for the same toon to exist on both versions of the game at the same time.
This is my understanding. TBC Classic is another game. Having a level 60 in Classic doesn’t give you another free 60 in TBC Classic. You either move on to level it to 70, or start from fresh, both will be free.
Beginning on May 18 , after each regional scheduled maintenance, the Burning Crusade Classic Pre-expansion Patch will be released, and each character must choose whether to advance onward to Burning Crusade, move to a Classic Era realm, or use the Character Clone service to play in both games.
I don’t understand the complaints. If Classic can clone their character to TBC free of charge, I’d argue anyone in retail should get a free 60 there, too. Will the Classic players be OK with that? After all, we are all paying to sub, and I paid more for SL even.
Yeah, if that’s the case, I think the charge to duplicate a player’s character is reasonable and in-line with all their other paid character services.
to summarize it, your character is given a choice to stay in Classic or move to BC. The copy function is an OPTIONAL thing that allows you to have the best of both world should you accept it
Yeah seeing the prices of every thing I’m not even going to bother with TBC.
But the basic game is “free” with your sub
The complaints are that the price is massive and is gouging the customer. I have said this several times at this point.
it’s always been free with a sub (just as Old School Runescape is free with a sub to new Runescape0
Is it? I’m ignorant on the subject because I haven’t been researching any thing over the past few months. All I know about is certain things from quick glances at WoWhead.
I know but the person I replied to didn’t.
Yes. To roll a level one character or move your Classic character to it is “free.” The OP is complaining that they can’t clone their character on Classic and TBC for free. Blizzard is charging $35 for that.
Ahh ok, thanks for the clarification. I don’t know why I thought you had to pay for it. I had to of been thinking of some thing else.
EDIT: Yup that’s exactly what I was thinking about.
Just for more clarification, I’m putting “free” in quotation because you still have to pay a sub. Sorry if that’s stating the obvious
I politely disagree, the price is not massive nor is it gouging. A for profit company is charging what they feel is appropriate.
Haha that’s a given. Looks like I’m going to retract my statement. I need to start playing my classic toons. I don’t think I have one that’s above 52.
I thought about making a Classic toon to transfer but then I remembered how much I loved the Cataclysm changes and noped right out of that idea.
you could be millionaire and it not be worth the money to you. or living pay check to pay check and think its cheap for what you get. value is relative with things like this. it’s not like a mcdonalds cheese burger that you wouldn’t pay $35 for. it’s a niche thing in a niche rerelease of a game type that has become niche, itself.
the pre shattering horde quests are a hot mess. idk how yall managed to level with that crap. by the time i made my horde alt army in cata the world had already changed.
$35 to get a rank 13 priest vs. $60 to get a level 50 with some standard equipment/gold and no achievement. I say you are having a much better deal than we do. Yes, I don’t understand the complaints.
What I think Grumbles means (correct me if I’m wrong) is that this price is pretty much in line with other character services offered in WoW.
It’s more expensive than a race or faction change but it’s cheaper than the original boost.
Well… at the time it was amazing. A lot of us came from a game with almost no quests (but it was ironically called EverQuest) so WoW was a breath of fresh air.
But I don’t care what anyone says, no questline in Classic beats “The Day Deathwing Came” or “Welcome to the Machine.” And that’s just the two I remember the names of. Helping Max fight “dragons” in Un’goro was hilarious and I loved getting my own riverboat in 1k Needles plus starting a bar fight between gnomes and goblins.
I never understood how people hated the Cata changes. Makes me wonder if they even tried them out.
