I think it’s stupid that they tell you to post it here on the forums in order for them to look into it, thereby giving it free advertising, where more players who don’t know about it can find it, and who knows what will spin-off from there. “WoW chat too restrictive for your realm? Download this free addon and say what you want without recourse from anyone!”
That’s a great point. I’ve done my best not to name the offending add-on
I don’t know. I just don’t see that catching on. The amount of false reporting would be so high that it just wouldn’t be reliable.
There does not need to be oversight unless the addon somehow also manages to break the ability for people to use Blizzard services too.
People forget that once upon a time ago, there was an addon that was like a better LFG that came with the ability to give people star rankings that others could see (and had a notoriously TOXIC TYRANT of a dev also)…it got nuked but not because of that feature…had to do with how much of a burden and strain it used on the servers or some such.
If it achieves even a modest amount of usage, the way it is designed will cause it to have huge growth.
Mainly, the fact that even if you have no intent to make reports about other people…you still have to download it to see if others have submitted comments about you.
I agree, I hope it doesn’t take off. Ideally Blizz would see the risk in their coding that allows add-ons like this to operate and makes changes to prevent similar add-ons in the future.
If I’m reading this correctly, all it takes is a discord comment to leave a review? What stops my entire guild from just popping into discord and leaving a negative review about someone I don’t like lol?
With or without the bad boy addon. People will still exclude realms and players
Exactly.
The only limit is what the add-on moderator wants to allow.
Jeez…tanks and healers are going to have it rough lol.
OP is not complaining about players “committing crimes” (leaving a bg, m+, and such). OP is complaining about players abusing the addon to kick or otherwise punish other players who have not done anything wrong (the example he provided was a guy who was kicked for playing merc mode).
We already do.
Also I just downloaded it and according to WoWup…it already has 50k downloads now. I’ll actually login and look at it after I am done with work.
Oh I know, but you’d think they’d get the lion’s share of bad reviews in the event that this thing gets any traction. Randomly reporting forum posters we don’t agree with would probably happen too lol.
Well i got nothing to say.
The person I was responding to was trying to draw the distinction that somehow the comments (true or not) are libel and thus prosecutable (very much not).
And spend enough time around here and you’ll get tons of tryhards who love to spout off about how “their group, their choice”…which is technically true. A group DOES have the power to arbitrate and decide who gets to come or stay on their run.
If this addon takes off, I know how I’ll responsibly use it but can’t help what others do. Just like I can’t do anything about the ultra rich IRL who don’t pay taxes and how unfair it is…that’s just life. All any of us can do is make the best out of what we got. I’ve 0 qualms about denying someone otherwise qualified (per my own standards) to my runs if I see they have a ton of bad reports. Maybe they don’t deserve them all, but I am VERY confident in assuming they deserve at the very least most of them which disqualifies them in my book.
Others can feel free to use their own judgments.
It’s going to be impossible to use it responsibly because so many won’t. Nothing stops me from getting this thing and reporting you right now. They can’t check and see if we were in a run together.
Maybe but that is just the risk one takes. Look at politicians and the mud that gets thrown around by both sides come election times. You live in the public eye, you accept that you will be vilified.
If people want to hate on me and leave me bad scores…oh well. I’d hope that the creators have timestamps at the very least so, over time, people can judge if the comments are old or not.
This is basically the Mean Girls roast book.
Eventually, someone, somewhere, is going to take it too far and I’m not going to stick around for that.
Well we all know how that goes. I’m sure the mods are already picking / choosing favorites and banning anybody that says a word they don’t like lol. Silly addon for kids who want control.
Sure, but those politicians can defend themselves. You’re completely at the mercy of other people on this thing. It’s a moot point anyway. There’s just no way this thing would be allowed to continue in the event that it picked up any kind of following. People just can’t be trusted with things so open to abuse.
I’m aware but again, I (and I bet others) don’t expect a 100% perfect system.
Just like I don’t go on yelp and take the very first comment I see at face value…I know full well people are much more apt to complain about bad food or service than about good food or service and there are even times smear campaigns and/or paid boosts happened.
It’s just additional information I can use. It isn’t perfect but, to me, better than nothing.
