So there are addons that let other players make false statements about others and blizzard is claiming they don’t have any control over that? Oh boy, that is condoning harassment if I ever saw it. They can break or ban any addon they like.
could always report it to hacks@blizzard.com
So you think random players should pass judgement and libel against other players based on perceived wrongs? There’s a reason you’re not allowed to write things about people even in the real world that are false or misleading.
This thread is a poster child for the most toxic community in gaming. A year ago I would have said it was any number of other game communities.
Nahh.
In your scenario, whose to say “I” don’t also get bad marks from the other 4 people in this scenario? I am not saying there is 0% chance for abuse or false positives here (in fact the opposite) but I am very much willing to risk losing out on playing with a great player who somehow got misidentified as a toxic donkeyhat by spiteful randoms than someone who is actually a toxic donkeyhat.
I’m banking very much that the vast majority of people with a lot of complaints actually do deserve most of them and would be someone I’d not want to risk being in any group I’m in control of no matter what.
It’s not old enough to have become a problem just yet. If it reaches that point they’ll end up breaking it if they think it needs it.
Libel is literally a civil crime my guy - you’re not allowed to spread defamation on any person that is false or misleading. This isn’t a question of if you think it’s okay or not
I’m no lawyer, but I am pretty sure that to be convicted of libel, the victim also has to prove there was some kind of actual financial loss.
And it 100% is not a crime to call people out for actually true and damning information that does hurt them financially or otherwise makes their lives miserable.
I think you’re going to have a tough time suing for libel in Azeroth.
I stumble across so many bizarre wow-related websites sometimes just searching for random information. I found this one months ago and it was very much a, “wow, are you for real?” reaction.
Probably, but it doesn’t mean it’s okay to have an addon that can actually spread false or misleading data on people. Social policing makes my blood boil.
I don’t disagree with you, but you’d have to be able to show damages…I think. Just lying about someone isn’t going to get you hit with a libel suit.
I agree - Blizzard needs to break this addon asap though. It’s really not a good look.
The correct response should have been that they’d elevate the issue to someone that can do something about it. Not just post on the forums.
Yeah…I just can’t believe enough people are using it for it be a real problem. I guess we’ll see.
hmm a Toxic addon you say? Sounds primed for Blizz to just add it to the game.
It’s not a real problem…yet.
But as someone else mentioned…the addon already has 14 reports in it even thought there are only 207 downloads.
Is this really that much of a surprise? Just think about the community(or lack thereof) that we’re talking about. There’s a reason I don’t trust people I don’t personally know irl in this game & this just further adds to that distrust. People are scumbags when they don’t have to face the ones they’re being scummy towards.
We are not enemies here. I’m not denying there isn’t the possibility and even likelihood for abuse and if it goes away, I’ll just shrug and go about my life (I just heard about this addon and am gonna download it later though).
I value playing with people who are objectively good at the content and pleasant to be around over your typical mythic raider elitist tryhard. I’d much rather fail a 15 to dumb mistakes but with a group of people who can laugh it off and take an open and honest position and call things out and work together but who may not be the tippy top best than some ultra pumping pusher who blows up at the slighest thing and has 0 qualms about burning your key purely to spite you.
So if I have a list of candidates and I see someone on it whose got a lot of reports then yeah…I’m gonna pass them over no matter what their IO or Blizzard score or whatever says…by the same token, I’m not gonna pass someone over whose got 1 report because I’m going to assume it was a spiteful spat and probably not the sole reflection of them as a whole.
Just like I’ve told people here who claims they “always get kicked” that there is a statistically very high chance that THEY are the reason they got kicked and not just them having the ultra bad luck of only running into troll groups who decide to kick them for the lawls.
