I Was Wrong

Toxic? Hah! Pot, meet kettle.

By the way, I assume you have audited your service for GDPR compliance, particularly around user’s right to be forgotten, and opt-out by default?

Otherwise you’ll have fun when people start putting service requests into the auditors. Lots of people play on US forums from the EU. But you’d know that already, before you start processing European residents’ data. Right?

Thank you this was the point I was trying to make in all of these exchanges.

I don’t see myself using this addon but I can’t see how anyone who pines for the days of server communities wouldn’t be willing to do this as its recreating that.

Not to mention it gives people who are overly sensitive the ability to avoid people like myself who engage in banter.

EU authorities are not going to do anything about it. Go ask them what they think and then come back to me on it lol

It’s a very poor equivalency. Community derision in classic is trusted. My friend has hears from their friend that this guy is a ninja.

There is a chain of trust.

Still exploitable, for sure, but there is something. Here it is random people talking about other random people.

There is no chain of trust.

They have an excellent reporting function actually, which you’d know if you looked into it at all.

Its more a personal flaw. When trying to argue against multiple people at once and it seems like I can’t explain a concept in a way that others understand, I start to use scathing retorts.

Its gotten me in trouble many times in formal debates as well as at work so its something I’m working on not doing.

Yes i did, guess waht, i supported that, i dont support an arbitrary rating system. Because the old system and this are NOT the same.
First of all what you are tyring to do is call the no true scotts man fallacy, stop it.

second in the old days, those black list groups were for like minded people, if i was in a guild generally i had the same take as everyone else, and we would generally not like the same people because oh hey we think they are kinda mean so ignore them. And guess what if enough people did not like them and enough guilds did not like them, they got blacklisted across the server.

But if one guild has a problem with one person on the server, that guild ignored them, they did not then have the power to write a bunch of negative reviews, and then give the presentation that, that person is a horrible individual just because this one group of people did not like them, and had the moderators sharing the opinion of that group.

there is a very clear difference between the two.

One, the old way, was based off a shared principals and morals for not liking a person, and those reason where not always shared by everyone across the server.

The other is applying a rating system generated by subjective opinion into a numbers, that does not accurately depict WHY or WHO generated that number.
you are trying to turn a subjective opinion into an objective rating system.

LOL go tell the EU authorities that there’s a naughty list of wow characters then :joy: tell us what they say!!

oh, you really are unaffiliated? i was suspicious only because of the actual creator being around

Because server communities were created organically where like minded people ended up gravitating to each other based upon their interaction and personalities.

This does not promote that if you saw someone with a high rating, that does not tell you if you will relate or even enjoy being around them, thats not a community, thats just a crappy review system.

Plus lets not forget, its a very real thing, negative reviews are FAR more liking to be given then positive ones which is another big thing to consider.

I have no affiliation at all. I just think its a neat idea and am thinking of the best ways that it could work. I crate programs as a hobby and this is a fairly unique problem.

Just a way to waste the small hours of the night.

It does not work because it does not achieve what you are looking for.

Let me give you a really watered down example of this. Lets pretend you like apple, specifically you really like green apples. and you hate red apples, and not really care about other types of apple.

Now you have 5 bags in front of you, in each bag is a different type of apple, and on each bag, is written a number that determines how tasty the apple is. You can not open the bag until you have picked one, you can not see inside the bag until you have picked it.

Which one has the green apple?

This is a very valid point. perhaps there needs to be a limit on negative reviews you can post.
Maybe you earn points through posting reviews and these are used in order to post a negative review.

I have a hard time believing that you couldn’t up with a better system in 20 seconds.

In the works at the moment, how many reports a player makes will be logged and visible to people who have the addon… Perhaps this can wipe on a regular monthly period… This is to discourage people from spamming reports or falsifying them, because players would see that person is making many reports and not play with them to avoid a situation in which they get reported.

Yeah, i already got one, its called the blizzard in game system, if they get enough reports they get banned for a limited time, if they get banned enough they get perma banned.

In my opinion I already have some ideas that would improve the system. Maybe I’ll create a proto UI and share it later tonight.

So, first of all, what happens if someone on the list gets a name change or server transfer?

Secondly, what stops people from putting all Latam and oceanic players on there due to ping, “being bad”, poor communication, or Australia’s love of swearing and banter?

Or maybe just leave it to the professionals. You are not qualified to determine what is toxic or what it isn’t. Neither am I and neither is any other player. I like my food a certain way, but it doesn’t mean that I should open a restaurant. You’re wasting your time with this.

So this is going to be the most awkward thing when all of the south America players get review bombed.

Then all you gotta do is report that the mod is specifically targeting other nations and minorities giving only them bad reviews and then RIP this mod.
