I was just suspended for 2 weeks for no reason

My auction house account was also suspended for two weeks for “Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy.” The email I received said that my suspension was due to exchanging “in-game property for “real-world” currency.” However, all I do on the account is buy and sell stuff on the auction house. I don’t trade anything on the account with anyone else except for characters on my main account. I do use the Auctionator addon but I don’t automate anything. Literally, everything that I sell on this account is stuff that I’ve bought from the auction house or crafted from my alts.

I’m kind of upset because I can’t think of anything that I’ve done on this account that involves exchanging in game goods for real-world currency, unless I accidentally bought and resold something on the auction house that was from a compromised account, but how could I know that? There’s nothing on the auction house that says X is a legitimate item and Y is not so don’t buy and resell Y.

I’ve put in an appeal, but just wanted to add to this thread because I don’t honestly think that I’ve done anything wrong.

Edit: I don’t sell runs, don’t buy or sell stuff from Delve reagent boxes, or anything like that. I literally only use the account to buy and sell stuff on the auction house.

If it is a case of being a false positive and it’s overturned - you can ticket and ask for game time compensation. Blizzard will provide game time of the duration you were unable to use.

I just got a response saying that this action has been taken in accordance with our Terms of Use and our in game policies, which all players acknowledge and agree to prior to playing. These policies and conditions allow us to maintain a fun and safe game environment for all of our players.

What a load of crap response. I’ll go to my grave knowing I did nothing wrong lol. The main part that bothers me is I’ve been playing since 2005 and so many countless hours into this game. What is to say this doesn’t happen again on a false positive and my account is gone?

did you actually read the link you sent? It literally says the following and stipulate that Blizzard has to have found a violation by the user. The point of this thread, and the comments within it, is that the people posting the issue did not violate any rules.

  1. Blizzard reserves the right to reduce, liquidate, deactivate, suspend or terminate your Battle.net Balance, or other Platform features if Blizzard determines, in its sole discretion, after investigation, that you have violated this Agreement, including the license limitations set forth in Section 1.C., misused Battle.net Balance, or have otherwise used Battle.net Balance to conduct any fraudulent or illegal activity.

that’s really sad, what violations?

i hate that Blizzard is treating their loyal player base like this.

I could ask the same of you.

Saying I exchanged in game stuff for RL stuff pretty much. All I do is play by myself and sell crap on the AH. You can look at my account and see all I do is solo delves, LFD and LFR lol. Not sure what I am exchanging.

You can keep appealing until you’re told absolutely no more appeals will be looked into.

Putting it nicely, it’s none of your (and our) business. It’s between them and Blizzard. If you have account action, it’s also between you and Blizzard.

That they, or any of us, are able to speculate. The data they have, at this time, corresponds with data that they have lining up with something that is unfit for game presentation, and is telling them that at this point in time, they are operating on correct parameters. Every time a wave goes out people come to these forums claiming they didn’t do anything wrong, but they never publish the number of false positives. Compared to the number of true positives, I don’t imagine it to be anything higher than 5%.

False positives are always a thing, and we see from time to time that overturns do happen, and sometimes even a statement from Blizzard stating that their metrics for comparison were either overtuned or too vague. But that doesn’t happen immediately, unfortunate as it is to say. Sometimes it can take a couple weeks, no one really knows what prompts them to take another sweep.

It is one of two templated responses in the appeals category; that one, for denied petitions, and there’s another for those that are successful. There might even be a third for petitions that have been escalated, but I don’t see that one often enough to know how it’s outlined, or really if it even exists. Escalations could very well be personalized responses as far as we know.

You can keep submitting appeals until they definitively state that no more appeals will be entertained and further petitions will result in more punishment for game master harassment.

Same response here as well. No answers on what actually was violated. I have a 20 year old account, I put absolute value in it, and I do not do stuff to get a response like that.

Total false positive and another appeal was sent.

And, they won’t give you a response, other than the generic category, because that information is what people that do buy, sell, and trade gold and items for real money would love to know so they can figure out how to bypass the detection system.

Also, it doesn’t matter how old the account is or how much time you’ve put into it. Everyone is treated equally when it comes to ToS. 20 years or 20 days, if a rule is broken, action is taken.

Since I did not see this addressed by anyone else as yet –

It is not in fact, supported by any stretch of the imagination. They allow carries and the like in Retail, but it is all at everyone’s own risk.

Allowed =/= Supported.

Not only is it risky for someone to be scammed out of their gold and the carry not provided, it is equally risky for you to be on the receiving end of illegal or ill-gotten gold. People absolutely do get sanctioned for that.

Blizzard hasn’t outlawed it in Retail, but it absolutely is not supported since it’s at the players’ risk.

My fiancé also got banned today for the same reason. We only play together doing delves and queued content, yet she is suspended and I am not. We don’t do any kind of crazy buying/selling on the AH except for about 2 weeks ago we bought enough of the Reagent Bags with undercoins for her to make 200k and I made 100k. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

There has been no official comment about the situation as of this time, but it is presently the common denominator among players that have posted here.

How can it be classed as theft if you don’t hold any ownership over your account or the game?

The thing is that I don’t do any of those things on my 2nd account. I don’t buy delve reagent boxes and sell the stuff, don’t sell runs, or anything like that. All I do is buy and sell stuff on the auction house. The only person I trade items in the game to is myself on my primary account, which I also play the auction house on, but which was not suspended.

I do “flip” stuff by buying things cheap on high-pop servers and selling them for a profit on my main’s server, but that’s not prohibited in game, I don’t think. I mean maybe I flipped something from a gold seller that I bought on the auction house, but how could I tell that? I literally just buy the cheapest things listed.

I don’t do anything differently on my two accounts, so it just doesn’t make any sense that one was actioned and the other wasn’t…

I know, I need to wait for my appeal, but I’m just feeling really confused and down because I’m very careful to play by the rules but apparently I’ve broken a rule that I have no idea about?

I just received a response to my appeal stating that they have upheld the account action, which I’m upset by. The advice on these forums is to keep appealing. In order to do that, do I mark “I still need more help” on the ticket or submit a new ticket entirely?

Fiancé just got the same cookie cutter response saying the action is being upheld and need to know as well.

You can keep appealing until they tell you to stop.
