I was hyped for tbc

but it’s getting harder to stay hyped. I honestly just get depressed thinking about how quickly blizzard has switched their stance on the whole microtransactions in classic thing.

I play prot paladin in classic wow. Since launch, I worked tirelessly on my character. I played over 120 days, I have just about every piece of gear you can use on a prot paladin in raids (except Gluth’s missing collar, which still eludes me) I got thunderfury, saph shield, 5 set t2.5. I grinded to rank 11, done countless quests, fought armies of horde.

Classic has been amazing for me. And despite the nay-sayers, I got to do what I wanted: tank as a paladin. It was a serious struggle, and I was looking forward to the next expansion, The Burning Crusade, because it brings the viability of paladin tanks up quite a notch.

But for me, with the confirmation of level boosts, the blatant going-back of blizzard on their own word, and now the possibility of MORE micro transactions? I’m just not sure if I want to continue. The hype really is dying for me. I see the same depression setting in from my guildmates as well.

I’ve always been upset by RMT and botting in classic. I don’t like the idea of someone else coming in and just BUYING the achievements that I worked so hard for. The fact that blizzard as a company is now doubling down on the very things that make the game WORSE for people like me by offering to do it themselves is upsetting.

What’s the point of playing this game if someone else can just buy my achievements?

And I’m not saying I won’t play, but honestly, I don’t know. I just get this dreadful feeling like tbc will be dead a few months in because people forgot about the entire spirit of the game. I know it sounds crazy, but I’d honestly prefer no changes over changes that belittle the entire reason I play the game itself.

“depressed” that’s more than a bit dramatic. “sad” i could understand. but “depressed” is a much more loaded word.

leveling is not an achievement, it’s a chore. the boost only takes you to 58, the bare minimum to enter Outland, Vanilla content is irrelevant in TBC which is why it’s a non-issue to be skipped

if you want your “accomplishment” of leveling to 60 in Vanilla to stay relevant, then move to the Vanilla servers that will be opening up

You can’t buy a good guildie. Don’t stress about boosts or whatever. The fun comes with gameplay and hanging with friends.

if there were achievements in tbc we’d get

level 10
level 20
level 30
level 40
level 50

and basic riding.

no quest/dungeon/raid cheeves. totally p2w to have that level 50 cheevo, amirite?

I think most of the concern and backlash right now is over the idea that they’re not going to stop at where they are.

If(and I know people upset think this is a big if) they only had a once per account boost to 58 and a deluxe edition, I highly doubt that would kill the game.

Boosting is already a thing in the game, and the original TBC had a collector’s edition with in-game stuff as well.

Of course it’s Blizzard, and I fully understand the thinking that they just wont be able to help themselves but to add more and more and more and more. They’ve established a pattern that is exactly what they do.

How does another player using a level boost or purchasing a mount affect you personally? If you consider leveling up the traditional way an achievement, great! Level boosts will not diminish this achievement for yourself unless you make it so.

Anything is an accomplishment if you find value in it.

That was for vanilla classic, sweetheart. They never said they wouldn’t do boosts for tbc.

and to that extent, the value you find in something should not be diminished by someone else bypassing it when it is no longer relevant

what is your entire reason for wanting to play tbc?

that’s too bad, I have hundreds of people from dozens of discord still hyped and really excited for it, more and more every day, hopefully you can get that back!

Maybe you should go outside for a bit and get some fresh air… you don’t need to stay inside 24/7, despite Covid…

I just want to have fun with my friends in a game where my achievements matter.

do your achievements only matter when compared to others?

otherwise - i play for similar reasons - although, i dont compare anything i have to others.

i play for fun with friends, that’s it.

Stop comparing yourself to others. Who cares? Set a goal, accomplish that goal.

Don’t let others dictate your fun.

i initially ignored achievements because saw how many non combat pets i’d have to buy and then i noped right out of it. that’s what we’re talking about, right? achievements? >_>
