I was 100% against RDF. Even got a warning for trolling when i posted how bad it was. Then I got accepted into beta where I experienced the LFG system first hand.
The lfg system is very bad in its current form and is basically just a list of lfg people, almost all of whom are DPS. And this is on a server with only a few hundred people. Imagine what it will be like on a mega server with 10,000 people per faction? It’ll be unwieldy. If you’re dps your name will get lost under 100s of other dps.
Essentially this system only works for tanks and healers who will be able to cherry pick their dps to avoid classes that would compete with their loot.
For this reason Blizzard should please consider restoring the RDF and finding other ways to maintain social interactions.
Some suggestions I have heard are
-
RDF forms groups from the same server first and after a certain period of time if a group can’t be formed due to insufficient numbers, it expands its search to cross faction.
-
RDF only available for non heroics. Similar to how it is on live. (RFD for normal/heroic but LFG system for mythics). This I think is the very best system with the combination of both systems.

This seems to be a common theme among those that have tried it.

How about this for a nuclear hot take: if you’re willing to perform in an essential role, you should get to choose not to have to have dime-a-dozen DPS nabbing gear that’s an upgrade for you. Keep in mind that the longer you’ve been in the queue, the higher you’ll be on the list and the more likely you’ll be selected eventually by people that don’t really care because they’re farming badges or rep.
I said it would be bad before it came out.
So it was exactly what I expected.
Certain streamer have said its a great system, and they have no issues finding groups as dps.
Wonder if being a streamer has anything to do with that.
This is a terrible system for dps period.

I refuse to queue for duneons on the beta because of this crap tool. No thanks. WE WANT THE OLD ONE BACK!!!

Well DPS is equally essential for the success of a group. It just so happens there are far more classes that are pure dps than there are tanks so we’re over supply…
My chosen class is a rogue. I always wished they designed combat spec to be a dodgy/evasion tank spec like the Demon hunter on live. That way when I need a group I could just simply click my tank spec. Probably why I actually main a DH on live. But sadly, blizzard gave hunters, locks, rogues and mages only one role so I have no choice but to roll a diff class. I’d rather not do that since I find rogues the most fun to play, especially in pvp

I disliked RDF back in the original WotLK play through days, but in today’s very-different environment of play if there is no RDF tool, I will be restricting my tanking, healing & dps dungeon play to guild only requests & mostly just moving straight to guild 10 person raids. Blizzard doesn’t seem to understand that a community might not be worth socializing with, once it is allowed to reach certain levels of malevolence, exclusivity, toxicity & cheating. Who wants to deal with that headache, except other sociopaths?

Exactly.
What ‘community’ is there left to preserve when most players are already on megaservers and won’t ever see repeat encounters with the players they are pugging with anyways? There is no community already if your server is oversaturated with ten times the amount of players of a normal-sized server. You can ninja items, get blacklisted from twenty guilds, and still find a GDKP spot easily.
Not to mention the amount of players who purchase gold and use it to buy the best gear in the game, skipping the need for a guild entirely…somehow RDF is the problem here

yea its gonna stink, all the DPS classes compete with either the tank or healer for gear, depending on class. As a hunter the warrior wants my ranged weapons, or even my DPS gear for his off spec, the feral druid wants my gear for his tank spec, maybe a prot paladin wont care, but a DK also wants my gear for DPS. Healers wont want casters around because casters are going to take their gear since Spellpower and Healing power are normalized now to be the same stat. I’m just waiting for the messages, you can come but if bow x drops its mine, your not allowed to need on it.
Surely we can just go back to just posting in the LFG channel and using the bulliten board, it works better

Make your own group. Then you get to pick.
Yeah. Don’t get me wrong if we got the group maker from say… shadowlands I think it would be a somewhat workable situation. Its not as quick and easy as RDF but at least you can functionally find a group and see who is what role, apply to specific groups, improved invite tools and all that kind of stuff.
But that is not what we are getting. If you are playing TBC open up that tool and say… well this is it… with a couple tweak’s. In other words a pill of trash. The way they force you into it to even see LFG tells you the plan. “Everyone is really embracing the tool, we are seeing an insane level of participation” because… well… YOU HAVE TO DO IT TO FORM ANY SORT OF PUG LEVEL GROUP.
RDF is really the solution. 5 mans are not a social activity unless you are going into them with the boys. When you are going for a pug experience speed of group and getting though the content is what matters. “Hi” “123 for summon” and “gg” at the end is not social. That is what you are going to get as a social environment in this new system.
Not to mention it goes against their whole design plan. PVP? Mach made. Wintergrasp now? You guessed it match made. In the live game now? Match made all over the place and not going to be removed. But WotLK 5 mans… this is where the line is being drawn… what a silly silly joke. If you are going to take RDF away because “you know better” (and I love forward to the “we listen to feedback and put RDF back in” post down the road) then at least put in the superior tool that you already have functioning in the OTHER game. Not this terrible one.

It’s actually terrible imo. Mid as well give us the retail clone system or scrap it and just give us DF imo.

Blizzard, this rogue likes to PvP. Please alter the PvE to cater to him. Thanks.

On the plus side, Dragonflight is looking fun and will release immediately after Wrath at this rate.

Even the regular anti trolls have gotten quiet. Why they aren’t implementing the retail LFG is beyond me.

You could always exercise self control and ignore the rdf threads. Crazy I know.
Although that does require you to obtain some first.

are you talking about the streamer thats always safe? his takes have been hot trash since he got married

as a DPS you just have to hope a tank or healer hosted group will invite you… All the tanks and healers are going to be starting their own groups to secure their drops. A tank isn’t going to invite a hunter or anyone else who could potentially want any piece of loot he wants for his tank spec or offspec. And a tank or healer isn’t going to want to join dps hosted groups with no control over the party comp.
Like I said in another thread, I will have to act this way as well, just like all of you say when we say “if you dont like it then dont use it.” Your responses have been “everyone will be doing it so we have to.” The same rule applies here, everyone is going to be building groups based on gear drops, my prot pally and DK will do the same… Unless your a mage, priest, warlock, or shaman your pretty much not getting an invite to any of my groups I form in this new LFG system, go look for a healer who started a group if you want in. This forces all the DPS out there to be forced into groups with 2 other dps and either a tank or a healer rolling against them so the host player gets all the drops they need. And I will be getting all my drops 100% because you gotta do what you gotta do to get gear in slow formed groups.
