He’s also forgetting that NCSoft actually does act as the publisher for multiple MMOs that are successful or are, at the very least, profitable enough to not be a burden on their bottom line.
Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2
Aion
Blade and Soul
Lineage 2
The only MMOs they’ve shut down really are City of Heroes/Villains and Wildstar.
When I played ESO it had no dungeon restrictions on f2p. People only got ESO plus for crowns for housing and bag space for crafting.

I find it much more likely they’ll kill off ESO in favor of WoW. Not saying they will, but if push comes to shove, I sincerely doubt WoW makes less money than ESO.
ESO makes less money then WoW
i would be shocked if microsoft picked eso over wow. for reals. not that i think they will shut either down unless they start losing money.
Which is a shame. Heroes of villains and and heroes was a pretty cool game as was wild star. Dont know why they closed down tho.
The studios developing both games were shuttered, likely because they were a drain on the bottom line, which makes sense from a business perspective.
Probs this. If anything this new acquisition means ESO will be shutting down.
Which is fine. Focus main title games. Love me some skyrim and oblivion
It’s very easy to lose yourself in modded Skyrim. Time seems to just… erode every so often…
I would say it’s one priority… among the many others under the Acti-Blizz flag. People seem to forget that Call of Duty and Overwatch exist. I don’t think one single franchise that they’re acquiring is THE selling factor – it’s the bundle of franchises that makes this deal a lucrative prospect for Microsoft.
Ain’t nobody gonna dump a ton of money into a 20 year old game and an even older IP, that has been in freefall for the last 5 or 6 years. That is horrible business sense.
The best you can hope for is WoW2 at this point.
No offense to anyone but yall are huffing some serious copium if you think this is gonna “save WoW”.

If/when this sale goes through, it’ll be a great injection of cash, morale, and (potentially) creativity into this company, which has seriously stumbled with the last 2 WoW expansions and the scandals it’s experienced lately. News of the sale will probably bring back a bunch of subscribers who recently deserted WoW in favor of other MMORPGs like FFXIV.
I for one am glad this is happening.
and if he wants too…bring Todd and friends on board.
not 100% perfect writing there but, yeah…they could use some pointers.
I mean todd retconned the brotherhood of steel, twice, and it came out decent.
1st retcon was the Lyons (father then daughter) changing the mission. then it was maxson going yeah…no. We going old school with a twist. it spiced up the BOS across games at least.

They would kill ESO over WoW if they had to choose between the two. Its a no brainer.
If what you said was true this would be the end of ESO not wow
ncsoft is garbage tho so thats why it didnt work
I spends hours looking for mods… its a game in itself
I could have sworn that unless you pay a sub or buy the chapters individually, you dont get access to chapter dungeons. There are core game dungeons that you can do but…I dunno, maybe they changed it?
I remember when I played ESO last year, I couldnt join my guild in dungeon runs because I didnt have the latest chapter. They asked me at the time if I did and when I said no, said sorry, you cant enter the dungeon. I assumed it was the equivalent of not having Shadowlands and so not being able to do those dungeons.
Here’s the neat part. Only your version wont continue on so it will be dead to you. But it will continue. Off to bigger and better things where growth can actually happen. Which is impossible in this companies toxic environment.
